been there done that, I lost tons of pics so Ive learned to download to shutterfly etc, its a pita but worth it

One target gets cookies, one gets coal. Why must it vary? I need a magic fairy I can put in my pocket while I shop. She'd be sweet, smart, and super fast at scanning my coupons.

I wonder if the Kohls Qs will take a break for the holiday? Or maybe they're going an extra step to make sure they're being sent to legit email accounts.

These Target register problems make me want to go through the 10 items or less express lane with exactly 10 items, all with coupons that I know they will feel the need to scrutinize Big Grin Just for fun.

You could always reformat it (which doesn't take that long, I have 5 Virtual Machines that I installed Windows XP on, in about 15 mins. each). Not a lot of work involved, but if you have no tech experience, it can be a little. You can always install Linux/Umbuntu. Umbuntu is very much like Windows, but everything is "open source", which means it's free (free Office equivalent, photoshop, ect..). There's a little of a learning curve, but you can find instructions for all of it online.

Nearly every computer at my current and former work has gotten one or both of these "viruses" except oddly enough my own work stations. One temporary trick I found to help while you are trying to get the computer "cleaned" is
First Phase:
- Reboot the computer
- Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL as soon as possible once you see the windows screen and bring up the Task Manager
- Watch for the virus to pop up on the list of running processes and delete it before it can take hold.
This will stop the virus from running until the next time you reboot the computer, however, your internet will still appear to be malfunctioning at this point. Luckily this is just a trick and can be easily reversed.
Second Phase:
- Open Internet Explorer (Yes, even if you use Firefox)
- Click on Tools
- Click on Internet Options
- Click on Connections Tab
- Click on Lan Settings Button
- Uncheck "Use Proxy a Server"
Now you should be able to get back on the internet and from there download and run something like both Malware Bytes and Super-Anti Spyware which is what the IT guys at both of my last two jobs used.

This sounds harder than it really is. Just remember to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and zap the program before it can reboot and then scrounge around the Internet Explorer Tools menu until you find that "Proxy Server" box and uncheck it.

Do you have a CD-RW or DVD-RW drive? I highly recommend making back up discs with your pictures as well. Big Grin

Computer stuff is what my dh does for a living, if we can offer any help to anyone.
