We got my DS a laptop for graduation. Shopped around for quite a bit and ended up paying around 400.00.. Was more than I wanted to spend, but promised him a decent laptop for graduation. The other kids want one now too. But, I told them they will wait as well. My DD will be a senior next year, so won't be long for her!
I bought a Toshiba with similar specs at Best Buy last year for $326 out the door. If you have the patience to wait you can find similar deals. And netbooks are actually great, imo, especially for kids. If all they are doing is word processing type stuff and web surfing, again with patience you can get one under $250, sometimes under $200.
The girls like the netbook because the smaller size is much more portable. They can tether it to their cell phone and surf the web it while we are on road trips.

$20 is a good amount, plus shipping.

Yeah, I do that with my netbook. We tethered it to the phone several times on vacation. My DH got a Toshiba for my son. They kinda picked it out together based on what he needed/wanted. I don't get into all the specs.. but my DH is an IT man, so he knows what to look for. They paid a little more for more hard drive space, and better video card (?) maybe.. he wanted to be able to do online gaming as well.. which neither of my laptops will do well.. or our desktop for that matter.
We have 3 desktop computers that have decent graphics cards etc so we really only needed the netbooks for low usage stuff. And coupon printing.
1: so you can feel normal, and 2: so you are okay being alone
Anyway, got a couple 12 packs of cream soda just cuz we needed it and it was $2.75. Otherwise, I got 4 Purina treats - TQ+MQ, 10 Beneful MQ, 4 Muffins TQ, 2 fruit TQ. Everything went through just fine. The Beneful asked if the amount was ok, then automatically adjusted it ($1.64). I think that was the only one that require intervention.
Stopped at another one on the way too -- Beneful, Muffins, Fruit -- coupons went right through. Didn't find a Roomba at either -- well, I found one but it was $299. Forgot to take the numbers in to check the fire safes and I wasn't lugging all of them to the scanners.
Which reminds me. What the heck is the deal with your scanners? They said "Ready to Scan" but none of them would actually scan. Damn things.
I will pop in now and then if I can. Gonna be hit and miss internet service since I am, umm, using what ever is floating around the airwaves in the area.
just wanted to say hello.

I haven't even tried yet this morning, guess I'll wait a little while since there seem to be some issues.
Why is it people always think if you work in computers you can fix anything. A lady at church accidentally erased all of the pictures off her mom's camera. DH found a program for her to try.. Instead of doing it, she brings him the camera to church Sunday. He spent 4 hours working on those stupid photos last night.. It was kinda cool though cause he got back almost every one.
I was on elfster earlier and it was slow, but no other problems.
