okay, maybe I am the minority, but there is no way I would use that. EEK! I can't imagine taking a nasty soiled cloth rag and placing it in a little pouch in my purse vomit
And washing a load of those in the washer just seems gross to me.. But hey, just my opinion. I guess they wouldn't make them if folks didn't buy them

I use a Diva Cup, but I've heard of a lot of women swear by cloth pads (I don't use pads at all). Once you get past the ick factor, it's fine for most. I don't have kids, but certainly a cloth diaper and a cloth pad are sort of the same, in terms of how to store and wash...right?

This [lush.com] is actually a good thread- the folks over at Lush are pretty eco friendly and very open about what works (and doesn't work) for them.

You are right. And I was even worse today, but you know what? I am actually looking forward to going home Saturday and knuckling back down to this diet. Yes, I'm aware that I could start to tomorrow. It could happen... but probably not due to some socializing eating plans we have.

Oh, hell no.

Nope, not that either.

I am ready to go home. Hmmm, I think Walgreens' weeks switch on Saturday, I guess I'd better check that thread since there is one a block away and we will still be here Sat. morning. Dang, I hope there is nothing I want.

My back hurts, so I am off to bed. My mom has the most comfortable bed EVER. ZzZZz The only downside is that it's a full, not a king -- otherwise, we probably would have smuggled it out by now.

Nighty night! wave

ok, so I can't see myself doing those things, but that being said,

1) it is really worth looking into chlorine-free pads, liners and tampons. seventh generation, organyc and atleast one more company make em. but those are the 2 brands I am familiar with. Chlorine is highly, highly toxic. A lot of women get redness, itchniness, swelling and irritation after their period and that's because of the chlorine in the feminine hygiene products - it is really an allergic reaction. Also, the presence of the chlorine in the products has been linked to a higher rate of vaginal yeast and bacterial infections. And perhaps most alarming of all, there are studies linking the presence of the chlorine to significantly higher risk of reproductive cancers in women.
you may not realize it in the normal course, but within just a few months of not using chlorinated tampons, you will feel the difference. ultra-thin liners obviously result in the lowest exposure to chlorine, tampons the highest. EEK!

2) when we were little and traveling to different places, sometimes you'd be in the middle of nowhere, in a developing country and you can forget about fancy boxed products. on our travels, we ended up finding a simple pad from this older generation brand, as it were. that actually helped us learn how to make our own pads if need be when traveling somewhere remote. here's what you do - get a roll of organic cotton wool (like the swaths used in hospitals you know? ) and cut out as long a pc as you want. fold into half widthwise, so that it is twice the thickness. take a piece of gauze that 2.5 times the width of the cotton pad and about an inch and about 3 inches longer than the pad. lay the cotton flat on the gauze with 1.5 inches on either long end. then fold gauze over width wize so that cotton is completely covered on both sides and then a half overlap on bottom side. just knot both ends. done. (sort of how you'd wrap decorative paper around a christmas cracker, or around a pc of candy, or a corn husk on a tamale. same concept with gauze length and width). the good part of this - no sticky things attaching to sensitive parts. and you can control both thickness of the pad and the length of the pad. plus since it is cotton, it is complete biodegradable. this is what our grandmothers had in the 50s and so, after cloth ones, but before this sticky wing, flower-printed, chlorinated crap.

Ok I can only think TMI, lol with all the tampon/pad talk. But for me my mom didnt tell me jack crap about what women go through so it is all very informative for me so I appreciate it.

And on the whole talking to my dd about what luvly things will come when she becomes a teen, I don't even know where to begin or at what age to start explaining things? Yes its sad but true EEK!

Hiya... Mavis had an appointment today - regular checkup. My little porky-pie is 13 lbs 7 oz (gained 2 lbs in a month!!!) and 24 1/2 inches long! She's in the 97th percentile for height/weight.

I stopped by Kroger on my way home and threw together a quick little run. Did pretty well and spend 4.XX oop. Yay.

DH's grandmother is in the hospital with congestive heart failure - 2nd time in a month. DH is a bit worried. She's his mother's mom and the same one who's hubby passed away this past winter. It's so hard seeing my hubby like this - he's not used to death, and this will be the 2nd major death in his life. They are talking about also possibly doing another pacemaker. I'm not sure how though - she's in rough shape and I don't know how she'd make it through a surgery like that. Anyway, keep us in your prayers please!

Not much else exciting going on though... just kind of hanging out now.

:hu g: Hope you are all having a good day.
Sounds like Mavis is doing great, good job mama!

Green with envy of all you Kroger (and Publix!!) peeps.

Pray

We are going to Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving and a surprise 80th birthday party for DH's grandma. We've been planning on this for several months now, but I just realized amidst the BF talk...that I am going to have to do BF somewhere completely new. There is a T within 12 miles of the house we're staying in but I mean, ugh. :anno yed: The only positive side is that, as of now, DH is coming along...he has never done BF and isn't afraid to get rowdy. :e vil:

Slowtech: Thanks for posting about the pjs at BRU! I called our store and she held 2 pairs of the skeleton pjs. She said "we have sizes 12 months and size 3." I took that to mean 3T and NOT 3 months like it turned out to be. The skeletons were super cute. They also had black cat & pumpkin pjs too. I think they were $8.xx
We are always out of town on BF, in a smaller town so les stores but it is a lot warmer there and we have never had snow there but if we stay home it is snowy and below freezing.

I need to get to BRU and look for those jammies!

Quote from meeshecat :
It's crappy here today and me thinks I am coming down with something... what the heck.. I am having the sweats (total hot flashes) then dizzy like no belief... oh well

That is awesome...will have to go to BRU tomorrow (hopefully) HUGS!!
Hope you get feeling better.

Thanks, here for you too hug

I agree wish you guys were around here too.

In a brighter note (that I should post in the diet thread), I went from being able to do 10 lbs on one of the machines for triceps to 25 lbs this week.

I am having issues lifting weights. I have lots of pain in my right wrist with certain positions, so I can't lift as much weight as i want to lift. : ( It's driving me crazy.
I need to get back to T and use some produce q's!! We go through so much produce every day, its crazy. I don't know what we'll do once the q is gone.

I ended up skimming a lot. Frown Sorry to everyone that I missed commenting on!! ya'll can chat!!
Congrats on going up on the weights. I really miss that, the thing I loved about working out at the gym is there was nothing else to do while there, I am to easily distracted at home. Hope your wrist gets feeling better, see if a personal trainer can tell you if there might be some strenghtening things you can do.

I need to get some produce Qs used up, we are running low again, we only have carrots left.

I'm very proud of myself.. and just had to share.

My sister has not spoken to me since my son's (not biological) death, nor has she talked to my daughter or granddaughter since then. Have no idea why, and when emailed or sent a message on FB asking why, she didn't reply.

She sent a message to my daughter tonight that was rather nasty and came out of the blue, it's been 20 months now.

So I finally sent her a message telling her exactly what I thought of her, her actions towards me when I needed her the most, about ignoring my daughter and granddaughter when they needed her the most and everything else that has been bottled up in me for the last 20 years (been keeping the peace, so as not to upset the rest of the family). Not being there for me during my skin cancer (stage 2)

Told her that I will be telling my kids that she will not be welcome at my funeral, that no hypocrite's allowed, if she can't love and respect me in life, then don't pretend to when I'm dead. Then finally deleted her from my FB...

I feel better knowing that I did that finally.

Thanks for letting me share..

That must have been very difficult for you to to do, and also sounds long

overdue.

For her first contact with your immediate family , after an extended period, to be nasty ,is just not called for.

hug Thanks Cathi..

She thinks because her husband is VP of "giant warehouse club" and that they have millions, and I basically have nothing, I have my house and my children and grandchildren and to me that's more important than any materialistic things.. that she is better than me. She drinks too much and is just darn right mean and cruel to her family (and her own kids) but just loves to do things for her friends and her Dog.. oh my what she does for that dog.. brags about her trips.. like she is leaving for Tuscany, Italy to go have some cooking lessons from some famous chef this weekend..

She doesn't work and wouldn't have a clue what to do if something happened to all their money..

She's thin and told me I embarrassed her because I was "fat".

My friends have been telling me for years that you can't chose your family, but you can chose your friends. But I'm very strongly family oriented and I truly did want all of us to be a family.

I lost a father, brother, 2 husbands and then my son in a short time span. But she just isn't family oriented.. she only keeps in contact with my brother.. not even our Mom.

So after writing what I wrote (though I didn't mention alot of other things that I wanted to, like she's a drunken bitch and a mean one at that, and that my father would surely be looking down, not pleased..) cause I didn't want to be that mean..

Sorry for clogging the thread with my rantings.. but I feel everyone here are open minded and not bitchy meanies like they really want to be known as. Smilie Everyone really is so kind and caring.. even though I don't post much, because living in Canada limits my shopping trips.. Frown

hug

Target's issue with $X/Y coupons was on CNN headline news this morning. Reported that they've only known about the issue since August and was pointed out that Target is pocketing the difference between reimbursement and what they gave the customer.
