And I don't think asking for your votes is cheating because the SD masters will be choosing the winners.

Very cute and I voted
i shattered my wrist in college. totally destroyed every wrist bone plus several metacarpals as well as the thumb bones. not fun. to this day, it hurts with heavy lifting, cramps up easily, hurts with repititive action, hurts when it rains/snows, hurts if someone shakes my hand hard. it even hurts if my sleep with my hand under my pillow.
sound familiar?
ok, so, few things i learned from docs:
1) get yourself one of those velcro wrist brace things that people are given for carpal tunnel syndrome. wear it whenever you are expecting to do heavy lifting/repitive things. it will support the wrist and help a lot.
2) there are specific wrist stretches that you can do as excercises throughout the day. you must do them several times a day, to keep the blood flow going, to strech out the muscles etc around the wrist. they are rehab excercises for the hand essentially. any physical therapist can you show you the excercises.
3) there are specific weight bearing excercises that you can do for your wrist. yes, excercises with weights, but designed just to strengthen your wrist and isolate the wrist. they work beautifully. learn them from a PT and do them.
4) when doing any weights at the gym, you must really focus on your form. look in a mirror and make sure for example that when you are doing bicep curls, your upper arm and elbow are firmly tucked into the side of your body, unmoving and that when you are moving the weight up and down your forearm is moving up and down in a smooth movement from the elbow, but the wrist is NOT FLEXING AT ALL. similarly with other excercises. form is normally important for everyone, but it is especially important when you have an injury of any kind.
5) if you attempt things like push ups - there are alternative methods to the traditional push up (like using a bench) for those that have hand injuries. so, when you go to your gym, specifically find a trainer there, explain your wrist issues and ask for direction on doing the excercises to get the same impact but minimize wrist strain. it is doable.
6) after a day of cleaning or anything else where you have put a lot of strain on your wrist, ICE IT. that will prevent/reduce tissue inflammation. makes a big difference.
7) if you have a doctor who says "oh you will get arthritis, just know that" then it is time to get a new doctor. medicine is about preventing illness/disease. doctors who just shrug their shoulders and let you know it will happen and they'll just drug you with pills when it does, simply aren't smart enough/good enough to practice the best medicine, which is preventive medicine. find a doctor that cares and knows how to help.
My wrist *is* hurting a lot today.
Anyway, thank you for all that info. I had pretty much given up, thinking nothing could be done.
