My toddler opened the door and let the dog out. Dog got hit by a car. It doesn't look bad - she has a scrape on her leg and chin, isn't moaning or whining, but limps when she walks around. I called every open vet clinic in the city AND the college (which is MORE expensive than the clinics) and it will cost $80+ dollars just to walk in the door. X-rays start at $150, and they don't know what else it will cost because it will depend on what x-rays, bloodwork, meds, treatment, blah blah blah is done.

Oh yeah. It has to be paid IN FULL at the time of service.

*sigh*
Oh Ank, I hope the poor dog is okay, and it's not to expensive hug

DS wore his Cat in the Hat costume! :We went to meet friends a little early and once he saw everyone dressed up, he agreed to try it on. By the third house, he was skipping down the block. Smilie

DH stayed home with sick Tigger. We had over 80 trick or treaters I wish I could say that I am out of candy:
I so glad ds wore his costume and had fun, sorry the little one missed the fun cause he was sick .

Quote from TheGh0st :
Need to catch up on reading but just got done handing out candy. Was only 1/2 way thru my stock pile but the gunshots from what sounded like a 1/2 block away was all I needed to decide I was done.

Good grief. The kids and their parents walking around barely flinched, like it was no big deal. I've lived in this neighborhood nearly 5 years and I will never get use to the gunshots and helicopters.

But then again the house I am in is in a small but beautiful neighborhood oasis in the hood and the prices for our homes are under 100K when the same homes would go for 300-500 just a few miles away and probably well over a million in larger metropolitan areas on either coast. One of the homes has over 20 rooms and its own original turn of the century Otis Elevator. Several were built by an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright and one two doors down was featured on "If Walls Could Talk" on HGTV. Just can't decide sometimes if the trade off of cheap historic homes is worth the risk of cross fire.
GUNSHOT , helicopters shake headEEK!

SOunds like you had enough real halloween scare ,glad you are safe.

Hmm... I have a neighbor that wants me to teach his 4 y.o. daughter English. He just brought his wife and kids over from India about a month ago and he wants to prep her for kindergarten next year. Where would you start?? He said she knows ABC's & #s and some poems.
Just talk to her the way you did when yours were little ,that's how they learned, and that young she'll pick up quick. Conversation is really the most natural way to learn a language.

Have the cutest story to tell made me laugh out loud.
I had a little about 7 year old trick or treater tonight and when I gave him his wendy's Q he asked me when they expire ,sharp liitle one that one, I almost fell over , in the three or four years I've handed them out not one kid has ever asked that! It earned him an extra pack of mentos gum :nod

Thanks. Smilie I'm hoping it's more reasonable tomorrow. Otherwise, not sure what to do. I kind of figured if it was really broken she'd be acting worse, but we'll see. I'm hoping it's more like she's bruised up and whatnot.

sounds like you were busy! You need to come here... my T takes expireds til they beep expired. Big Grin Big Grin I heart my ST!!

So... has anyone seen/figured out some decent deals with the new TQs? Wondering if I should go buy some coups...

ETA:

*sigh* I was going to order q's... but I decided I just can't. DH gave me $40 and said to spend it on myself... (it was some "extra" from his last pay) I almost spent it on coupons! I need clothes though... I need to focus! I guess that's when you know you are addicted to deals, eh?
Hey, ank, send me a PM with your most wanted list, I'll see if I have any. Provided I can find them in my inserts. Teehee

Morning, everybody!! Off to fire up the Keurig. Yep, I'm a fancy lady!!!! Big Grin

Sorry to hear about your dog Ank hug

Our neighbor's dog was hit a little while back ago and was badly injured. The dog did end up surviving....dh was out talking to them one day and they told him it was well over $1000 to get him fixed up. And I know they do not have that kind of money so that had to be tough. Same neighbors were evicted a week or two ago.

Morning everyone. I too am mourning the 10/31 expiration date...I woke up with an opportunity to shop today but realized all my *good* Qs are now expired. Gotta work up a scenario to use them at KM since they will accept Qs up to 2 weeks expired.

Going back to Florida on Thursday for a wedding. Hopefully we are going to be looking for a house and DH has 2 final interviews with restaurants in Orlando & Tampa. *fingers crossed*

I really need to see some BF ads. What's the holdup? I only plan on doing T since I will be in an unfamiliar city but hoping there is at least something worthwhile!

Ank: I hope your doggie is OK!

TheGh0st: That is some scary stuff! I haven't been lucky enough to hear gun shots but we live in a fringe neighborhood and there is definitely some crime.

Did anyone give out toothbrushes last night? Big Grin Someone gave DS a free pass for a gymnastics class...only problem is the gymnasium is an hour away! Gee, thanks!

Have a great day everyone!!

My favorite treat from the kids' trick or treating last night-a popsicle that needed to be frozen. You know those classic ice pop things? Yeah. Me thinks someone forgot it was halloween and just found something in the pantry. The homeowners were yelling out to the kids "make sure you freeze it first" Roll

Ank, I hope your doggy is okay hug medical expenses for pets are as ridiculous as they are for people Frown

I didn't have any 10/31 so I'm light on mourning this morning Evillaugh

Morning Everyone..friend and foe!

Hope you all had a good Halloween.
Ank..sorry about the doggie!
Meesh..hope you are feeling better soon.
Gun Shot person...I nearly fainted when reading that!

Power shopped yesterday to use up all my q's that were expiring..still no T for us..it's been over a month!!

Trick or Treaters came...I told them that the trick was on them..there was no candy here! Then I said..just kidding..I didn't say that to the wee ones..just the old enough to understand ones. Did Halloween at the school, did parade..now working..I need a day off...just one day..one measly day.

Is the 4 yr old not going to pre-K now? If she is, then she should be able to pick it up from the kids and teachers...Atleast my kids did...We even asked their teachers if we need to speak with them in English at home instead of our regional language and the teacher advised us against it...I think she will pick it up fast if she is around kids speaking in English...

Thanks for all the well wishes. She's limping around, but is otherwise acting normal.

At least with humans, they take payments on the med bills. All the vets want payment in full and up front!

No, she's not - I think it's a $$ issue. I think i am going to see what she knows today and go from there. I am thinking that I'll do some reading, singing, games, etc... with her to help her learn. Kind of like I do with my own kids now. At any rate, I kind of figured that the more she's around other children, the better it will get. I am probably going to incorporate my 2 kids into helping out too - I just want to see where she's at today and see what we really need to do.

They did for me last year as well but this year I can't seem to find anyone interested. Go figure.

... Oh one more funny thing from Halloween last night. I was letting my son hand out the candy at first and just hanging back inside watching from a distance. Later he decided to make the rounds with his dad. And in the 20 minutes he was gone at least 4 different parents said they remembered coming to my GS this summer and wondered if I had more items available. Was debating on whether to have one more sale this year or not but it looks like maybe I should.

Good afternoon everybody! I'm finally back home. I've had a lot to do today and finally got a chance to plop down and get on the computer. Our furnace isn't working so I am waiting for a furnace guy. Hubby usually fixes everything but this time all I heard was I think it might be mumble mumble, something get a part, mumble mumble call a furnace man. nod

To all of you who traded or RAOK the Beneful coupons -- they are going to good use. My son wanted a pet. He lives in an apartment so he got a small dog. Yeah, good idea, dumb ass -- but, as you all well know, Mom doesn't know anything. She is little chihuahua that was rescued from a puppy mill. Poor little thing. My dog's head is a big as she is. Anyway, here we are a year later and she is spending too much time in her kennel, not getting fed on schedule, etc. etc. (Work, graduate school, internship, single & 23) Sooooo, guess where she lives now? Yeah, my house.

Here's where the food comes in -- puppy mill, neglected, rescue -- her teeth aren't very good and the poor thing can't chew hard food so she has to be fed canned. I have also been informed that she really likes Taco Bell and Subway. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)laugh out loud

There is actually a question in all this babble. Is there any kind of bagged dry food that is soft -- other than the little cellophane bags of stuff that look sort of like hamburger.

I free feed my dogs and would love to be able to fill a dish and leave out for her, so I don't want to just add water to something to soften it I need something that isn't completely hard like most dry dog food.

Quote from ank220 :
she has a scrape on her leg and chin, isn't moaning or whining, but limps when she walks around.
Quote from ank220 :
She seems to be okayish - limping (confined to the tiny kitchen), but not whining/crying or anything. She lets me feel her leg and paw - she licks my hand when I feel it, but she doesn't yank away or yelp..
How is you puppy dog today? From what you are describing, I'm not sure that I would take her to the vet. It doesn't sound like she is really hurt much. If she got her leg hit, it's bound to be sore but there is nothing they can do for that. If she had serious internal injuries, well, you will know that by this morning too. If she is eating, drinking, urinating and doesn't seem to be in pain, I would probably baby her and wait it out.

Don't we have a vet wife in here?

Quote from meeshecat :
over $1,000 in cash and no negogiating for WORMS... that to me was CRAZY!!
That's nuts. You two really, really, really make me appreciate my vet. Shots just went up --- it's now $20 for any. No office call charge, nothing else. Walk in, stick the dog, $20. It was just under $100 to spay my German Shepherd. Spay, remove all 4 claws and rabies for a cat was $125. I think it was $30 to have one put to sleep and disposed (and he doesn't send them to rendering).

Quote from Dazzledby5 :
I only just discovered my oldest DS's pubic hair ......I wanted to punch my husband for not telling me it had happened already.
We were at my sister's house when my younger nephew (about 4) walked in on his big brother. Little guy yells out from the bathroom, "Mom, has hair on his tallywacker". LMAO Next thing we heard was thud, boom, bump.

Facepalm

Kitchen project did not go as planned. DH went to take the last piece of countertop out of the box it shipped in this AM and the laminate was split down the entire length or the backsplash portion of it Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) Damaged in shipping, but I wasn't real thrilled as I couldn't believe dh had not checked it out before this AM. Called Menards, they ordered a new one and are rushing it but who knows when it will get here.

Meanwhile, everything was taken out of my kitchen because I thought they'd be working in there today and tomorrow....now I will have to put some of it back in and take it out again when the new stuff comes. DH and FIL are now doing plumbing PEX line and installing the water softener that's been sitting down in the basement for nearly 3 yrs.....and the half of the countertop we installed on our own the other day is done so our kitchen looks quite odd.

Of course THIS is the week dh has off from work....who knows when we'll even be able to get the rest of it done now Annoyed It's been one of those days. Was hoping to get stuff together for a Target run today but everything being so disorganized has messed me up. Ugh. Maybe tomorrow.
