What do you do?
If she has had one that high for over 24 hours straight, I would probably take her to be seen.. If it were only 101 or so, I would probably ride it out another day, but with it being that high, it is hard to do nothing..
Make sure you are alternating the motrin/tylenol to keep something in her system and push fluids as much as possible. That high of a fever will cause her to dehydrate much more quickly.
I do understand your concern with the ER.. there are alot of germs there, but maybe you can keep her in a more secluded area away from alot of the other people waiting.. or you could go to the urgent care, but the ones here I know close at 9 or 10 pm.
I am sorry she is sick.. I know it is a sucky time for you right now..
What do you do?
let's see, I have done almost everything it seems.. Next year will be 20 years in nursing for me
Many years ago, I worked full time.. After child #2, I worked weekends only for a few years, and then with #3, I went prn. I took 6 months off after #4, and then went back.. Still working prn now.. Usually work about 12 hours a week.. Enough to pay my car payment and a few other things.. Wish I didn't have to work,, but with 1 in college and another one graduating next year, I think that isn't gonna be a reality for awhile
Has anyone seen Drozee78 (I think I have that name right .... she sometimes posted in here ... )
Anyone else - NOT finished shopping - NOT decorated - NOT ready???? LOL feeling behind the cue ball here.

I worry about the ER also because she's obviously fighting off something and I don't want her picking up more germs by being around more sick people. Ugh.
the thing that always worked for all of us: cold compresses. take a bowl of cool water... cooler than room temperature, but not icy cold, because she's so warm that cool will seem much colder to her already. you can add a little perfume or cologne to the water if you like... the smell is often soothing.
and then using a thin cloth... like a cheesecloth or kerchiefs or a washcloth, soak completely in water, wring out and lay the cloth doubled and flat on her forehead. the key is to keep the head cooled so as not to impact the brain. so do the compresses for about 10 minutes, then give it a half hour break, fresh water for 10 min compresses again. and so forth.
it makes a big difference.
another thing... if you guys have any pedialyte pops at home, or can get some tonight... those would be good. the electrolytes and water will help her body and sucking on those will also cool her down some.
and one thing you want to watch for (harder to tell cos she's 3, easier to decipher in older kids, but still): if you start to see any signs of delirium, basically her saying strange things that don't make sense, or talking disjointed stuff in her feverish state, then you want to get her to urgent care quickly. or if her fever goes above 105 you might want to do that, too.
i.am.not.ready.
but, let's focus on sweet things
here is a page with links to substitutions for alcohol in cooking [about.com]... i like the idea of reduced orange juice (to intensify the sugared flavor, maybe even caramelize the sugar some) and also ank's idea of orange rind. mix the two and you would have intensity.
here [about.com] is a page with info on how much alcohol remains and links to calculation chart by the USDA.
but i had another completely non-alcoholic idea. how about using rum flavoring? dr oetker makes one that doesn't have a bunch of junk. i'm sure you can find others, that are completely alcohol free and offer just flavoring. my recipe calls for rum, and i know there are other buche recipes that call for brandy or rum, so you wouldn't be that far off base. maybe taste and see how you like the flavoring? mum used to make buche de noel for us when we were kids (LOVE it) and she always just used rum flavoring because we were going to eat it.
another idea, if you get some dark brown sugar, and get some sour oranges. mix the juice with the sugar and cook till reduced. you would have the smoky caramelized flavor of the brown sugar and the sharpness of the tart juice, plus that orange flavor. that might do the trick.
i think before you make the cake, it might be worth it to test out a couple of orange concoctions on the stovetop and then taste-test them before getting going on the cake.
and just want to say, i think it is so sweet (so characteristically what i see of you in so many posts) of you to do this for your dad and put in such loving attention to every detail. he is lucky to have you and you him. i pray for speedy health for him and for you all to have a wonderful, laughter and love filled christmas together.
i am finally done with laundry... for the night.
back to the washer dryer bright and early to wash and dry the rest of the bedding, dry out the rugs and towels that are still damp (i just don't have it in me to finish up the drying anymore), wash and dry all the darks.
oh and did i mention everything still needs to be folded and put away.
not doing that right now. laundering all the bedding is way too much work. i want a housekeeper.
Ready for another week. This ol' lappy says date is Sunday, 5:51 PM.
New lappy sent to HP to see if elec problem can be fixed. Hope is is fixed and back this week!

L2B: I am in awe of you. I knew you were an amazing woman, but there is NO way I could pull off 4 kids, homeschooling them, and working as a nurse. I would never get to sleep!
Still fighting this nasty sinus infection. I feel like I got hit by a truck. I feel bad because I sent both boys to school this morning, but honestly, I knew it was going to be a day where I stuck them in front of the TV all day so that I could rest. Hopefully I will find the energy to pack up their closets while they are away.
I am still annoyed at DH for not doing T runs for me Saturday night. All I wanted was more Sonicare but I could not convince him to go through the line. I pouted for the rest of the night.
Does anyone need Lego GCs? I have a couple extra and I also have some of the Boots Lip Gloss GCs if someone needs...I would highly recommend against using the lip gloss though. LMK.
I just want to add that I am having a horrible time trying to get my SS gift together. My matchup has been MIA for a while and I don't know the slightest thing about them...please, if you're reading this, log into elfster and answer some of my questions!!
