Ugh! So DH accepted this job a few weeks ago and last week they called and asked him whether he would be willing to transfer to Naples, FL after his 10 week training period in Tampa. He said no we are pretty set on going to Orlando. They told him that they had promoted someone from within and that he was given priority as to what restaurant he wanted to run. He chose the Orlando location. Now it only leaves a spot open in Naples and when DH originally started negotiating with the company (about 2 months ago) he told them that he was willing to relocate anywhere in Florida. That was then! We had already gotten used to the idea of moving to Orlando. Now it doesn't look like we are going to be able to. Plus, when he got his offer letter, there was a separate section about training. He would only be getting 1/2 of his regular pay for the 10 weeks training, unless he exceeds 55 hours per week...then he would get 1.5 times 1/2 of his pay....that is not doable on our current budget.

He had a conference call with them this morning to try and sort everything out and it looks like the company isn't able or won't budge on the Naples location or the training pay. So it looks like DH is going to have to turn down the offer Sadwalk

His current company has offered to transfer him to the Tampa location. Thankfully, he never formally gave his notice but they aren't willing to pay for relocation...which is like 2k. Plus, they are asking him to work here in MI until New Year's Eve which would mean that we wouldn't be down there for Xmas. I know that seems like a trivial thing...but all I want to do is cry about it. Weeping

End of rant.
sorry to hear that gator.. I am sure it is frustrating.. I can understand wanting to be there for Christmas hug

Sounds like you have done some different things.. I had a friend who did clinical research a few years ago and loved it too..
let's see, I have done almost everything it seems.. Next year will be 20 years in nursing for me OMG can't believe it, I feel old.. Started out in ICU for a few years, went and worked a med surg/telemetry unit for 6 years and then did a brief 1 year as night shift coordinator on that floor (hated that job Frown) , left there and did 6 years or so in OB/GYN (loved postpartum, newborn nursery, and neonatal ICU, but hated labor and delivery).. left cause it got boring.. went back to critical care for a few years.. and now I am working in surgery department as a recovery room nurse.. I heart it.. best nursing I have ever done.. Wish, I would have listened to a friend and done it years ago.. Another perk is that my boss is a long time friend who actually trained me fresh out of nursing school..

Many years ago, I worked full time.. After child #2, I worked weekends only for a few years, and then with #3, I went prn. I took 6 months off after #4, and then went back.. Still working prn now.. Usually work about 12 hours a week.. Enough to pay my car payment and a few other things.. Wish I didn't have to work,, but with 1 in college and another one graduating next year, I think that isn't gonna be a reality for awhileWink
You have done alot! That's what I love about nursing. heart If you get tired or burnt out doing one thing, you can switch to something else. My sister (she's a nurse, also) did labor and delivery for awhile, too. She got burnt out really fast on that. She said she loved the baby part, but the day-in, day-out dealing with the demanding moms in labor got wearisome.

We worked together at assisted living, then together again doing clinical research which she is still doing. The main thing I love about clinical research is that you are always learning something new. Keeps ya on your toes Wink The Dr. we worked for also had a family practice in the same office, and also did aesthetic stuff such as Botox. He would bring Botox in and give all the girls botox (not me EEK!) and then he would let my sister do it to him LMAO. So, there was always a variety of things going on in the office.

It's nice to know of some fellow nurses in here that can relate their experiences in different areas of nursing Wave

Don't worry, having a hard(er) time with my SS gift. I'm sure that whatever you send will be appreciated because- we all seldom get random gifts of any kind in the mail. So shop around and send what you want. If they don't like it, they will say they do to make you happy, then regift it. (but you'll never know) Problem solved.

There are about 70 hallmark stores in a 100 mile radius of me. How many do you think I can hit in 4 hours? EvilHope my SS likes hallmark. Big Grin

Not sure if you all have looked through the Christmas toy section, but there are lots of small toys, including the travel games, that would be after certain coupons. And My Little Pony is TPC'ed to 4.99, from 6.99.

Sonicare Essence is still 37.99 at my store. Not sure why everyone thought it was going off sale last week. These things are working very well for me, earning me money for Christmas and our trip to NYC this weekend. Big Grin Crazy what people will pay for stuff!!

Met the nicest, sweetest little ol' lady from CL this morning. She was buying a bunch of tubs of wipes from me. She didn't have any change, so she asked if I had anything else to sell! Rofl2 Ended up selling her another $9 worth of stuff. nod

Thanks, meeshe, for telling us about your success on CL with dog food. I would never have thought to sell it on there, but I have someone coming this week to pick up xx bags of Beggin Strips. Big Grin

Reynolds slow-cooker liners!! These are very near and dear to my heart as they were my very first stockpile item when I got married, we got our own house, and I started using coupons casually a couple years ago heart laugh out loud

But seriously, I never use the crockpot without one now....very little clean-up to worry about unless the bag leaks or breaks which is rare for me. They run about $2.xx/box and there are $1/1 q's out right now. Haven't seen any spectacular deals but they are very worth the cost IMHO.

hug That just really stinks and I think if it were me I would just cry too....it really isn't trivial - you had it all planned out and whoosh away went the plan...Christmas was part of that. This would have been Christmas with your family(s) right?? Frown So sorry! hug

Went to make a lean pocket for lunch and our microwave broke! Not the tray, the whole machine. Just one of those days I guess. It takes 32 minutes to make a lean pocket in the oven. *pouting*

I sold 3 this weekend @ $25 each. I think the cheapest I've seen advertised is Wags @ $39.99. Some lady said she just got on for over $40 at Helly and was hoping her hubby didn't open it yet.

oh gator. i am so so sorry, hon! praying that this bend in the road is actually there because something even better, with more growth opportunity, a bigger income and a great location that you guys love, is coming your way.
that's way run-on as sentences go, but basically i am praying that this turns into a BIG GIFT full of lots of happy wishes come true.

I hear ya on the SS thing.. I have tried so much to get just the right gift.. My person hasn't been around much lately either.. Bought what I thought was a "perfect" gift, then read a post that made me realize it wouldn't work.. I have now decided to just get some nice things that I would like and hopefully they will like some of them too! We need to mail by Friday, right?

....
End of story - it is hard to buy for people you don't know.. Even though she told me what she wanted, I had no idea if she liked fruity candles, or perfume scented ones.. Just took a guess!

...
totally agree on it being hard to shop for a stranger. especially when you shop as a woman and for a woman. we're all so detail oriented and you so want things to be perfect. it's tough. plus even though we don't know the details of what people need/want/like, we all know things about the obstacles many of us are facing, and it's hard when you just want to make it really special for that person and an antidote to all the stresses.

but i think, as many of us has said, whatever you pick, whatever you send, i'm sure your SS will appreciate the gift and all the time, thought and effort that went into it. hug

Quote from lisapdreamer :

getgreen, your post made me remember that last weekend Verizon had an open house, and had a basket of hand warmers as goodies. Stuck 2 in my purse. Just the perfect size to stick under my bra strap! ....
oooh, great idea!!
you can also loosen that strap and tape the patches to your skin with some first aid tape. just tape the edges of the warmers, not the warm part. Big Grin

Quote from lisapdreamer :
On the SS gifts, I am struggling too! I want to get the perfect gift, but that is impossible if you dont' know them well. Just know that I am very easy to buy for, just in case you wanted to know!
hug
join me in the struggling department.
well, here is an idea: everyone struggling, how about coming up with 5 -7 pointed questions you have for a present (like what kind of scents do you like? floral, spicy, vanilla.... etc) and putting them up on elfster by this evening.
and then all of us SS people who have not yet recd their pkg in the mail (only one person has, to my knowledge), go online ASAP and read and answer!! or check your email account!

For real. However, it's a double-edged sword. Now, I am most likely going to have to move myself and there is no way I am dragging heavy ass boxes of stockpile crap. Well, I guess I could go get more pjs and oral b tbs...i mean, those are pretty light? Evil
