Here's a link for some apples linky [amysgourmetapples.com]

These aren't the exact ones that my MIL sends, but they're similar. And they look delish! :yum: Big Grin

And I can't believe I forgot to tell you all - during my weekend in NYC, I got to go to Carlo's Bake Shop, as featured in Cake Boss!! It was so awesome. Waited outside in the frigid temps, rain, and WIND, for around 2 hours. Then inside the tiny bakery, probably about 50-75 people were crammed, everyone trying to see the bakery displays, trying to figure out what they wanted, no prices posted anywhere, total chaos. But the cannolis, oh my word. So totally worth the wait. And the crumb cake. And the snowman cupcakes I got my kids. And the cookies. Ugh. Total diet buster. But awesome, all at the same time. I love that show, and it was so neat to be able to see the actual place. We saw one of the guys, Mauro, and a couple of the young guys that do deliveries and such. Very fun.

OK, off to bed. Must get in some shopping tomorrow morning!!!!

I completely agree as well! That's what we do for my dad. Years ago I started buying him a Hallmark train ornament and every year I send him whatever train ornament is available that year.

That would be cool to see.. 2 hours though.. I wonder if it's always like that now since he does the Cake boss.

So are the frozen Pepperidge Farm ones like they sell at Arby's.
Those are really good. I had no idea they were Pepperidge Farm. Can you buy them at most grocery stores and they are the same ones?

I just washed my Grandmother's pans, this is the set I inherited and brought home a week ago: http://cgi.ebay.com/TOWNECRAFT-CH...27b637d499

What does waterless mean? Some of them are pretty scratched up on the inside, how do you tell if it affects how they preform while cooking food. Scratchchin I haven't used them yet.

How about a really pretty ornament or a nice Christmas book. Do you have a stockpile? Would you be better off make a gift up from that and spending the cash on shipping it?
I like that or a shutterfly book of the past year, birthdays, fun trips etc.

"Use little or no water

Fresh vegetables and fruits contain enough natural moisture to cook without adding water. Simply place vegetables or fruits in utensil and cover with cold water for a moment. Pour water off quickly. The moisture that clings to the food is sufficient for minimum moisture cooking.
Water is necessary for preparing soups, rice, dried cereals, dried fruit, dried vegetables, dried beans and pasta.
Meats can be cooked in their own natural juices."

As far as I know they are the same. Seems to me I remember the signs used to say Pepperidge Farm, haven't checked lately. Last time I bought the frozen ones it was $3 or so for a pack of 4, and cherry and apple are available in the frozen stuff. Haven't seen them at Target only at larger chain grocery stores.

Van is acting up again. Frown The van stalled out as we came to a stop sign. The battery light had started blinking before that, and the lights were getting bright then dim, then bright and dim again. That has happened (the lights) a couple of times and it sounds like it wants to stall out. This time it did stall out. Also, as we were driving, there were a few times it felt like the van just had no power - lights and things were on, but it bogged down like it was being pushed up a hill or something - not sure how to explain it otherwise. I'm thinking maybe the alternator? That or the battery I guess.
...
i agree with cathi's husband... sounds like a wiring problem exacerbated by movement/bumps from the car running.

have your DH check 3 things:
1. check that the battery is screwed into place. if that u-clamp that holds the battery into the tray has come off or come loose, the battery will rattle around.
2. the connection the terminals. are those tight? come loose?
3. the wires from the battery terminals are they cracked, torn anywhere? as cars get old, especially in cold weather, the insulation around the wires can get dry/crack.

if none of those are true, or not visible easily, look up the advance auto parts store near you and go in. they will do a free checkup for you, right in front of you, and let you know how much charge is left in your battery, as well as whether there is any issue with the starter, the alternator, the wiring.
so you will know right away.

if you need to buy any of those, there are mega saving coupons for AAP. so you can do that plus use a cashback site to order online then pick up in store. they will also fix the battery or such for free for you.

cold weather like has been going around generally highlights dying batteries, failing alternators etc. so you probably want to check that before we go further into winter.

.... there is a $1 Nabisco crack coupon...
you use coupons for buying crack? laugh out loud

ok, everyone pay attention now, gt sits naked on the bed with a tub of vaseline to lube her wagon EEK! and she buys crack. at T. with coupons. Cool

finally, we're learning all about gt.

anyone else?

Anyone have suggestions/tips/deals on something to send someone who doesn't need anything? laugh out loud

Yeah, I know.. send them nothing.. but that isn't really any option. It is easier to just find something for them.. less stress for me that way.

I am looking for something that I can order online and ship to their house cause we won't be seeing them before Christmas..
I started looking at that Fannie May deal, but would rather send them a cheesecake or strawberries rather than a box of chocolate.. The deal breaker on the thing is shipping.. Anything perishable costs more to ship from them. I really only want to spend no more than about 20.00.

Any ideas??

It is a husband and wife.. no kids..
there are several codes for harry and david. there is a thread on hot deals. anyhoo, at one point they had free shipping and 25% off. the codes have changed some because so many people have been using it, but you might still be able to stack some them. someone reported that they're still stacking. they have lots of affordable options in there sale section. box of a dozen pears for 12-15 bucks etc. plus it comes nicely packed by H&D.
worth looking into it...

also, if you go to amazon... grocery... gourmet and then click on the icon for holiday gifts, many many things have free shipping for the holidays. they have it sorted by price. there's an under $15 category and a $15 to $30 category. hold on, let me see if i can pull up the links for you.

amazon bestselling gifts under $20

amazon bestselling gifts $20 to $50

Thanks guys for all the ideas.. I may consider an ornament.. That darn Hallmark coupon would be so helpful with that wouldn't it? Man, I wish my stupid store would take it..

Flug - Those apples look so yummy! I wanted to get them.. It is a shame they charge 10.00 to ship 2 apples.

I would love to go to Carlos bakery.. Love cake boss!! That show is awesome! My son thought it was totally cool that you went there!

ank, can you get the van to a place like AutoZone where they can do one of their free diagnostic tests? We had a similar problem with a truck many years ago and it was the brushes in the alternator that went bad. At that time, it cost about $35 to fix. Hoping it's something simple and cheap for you.
It sounds like our alternator to me. I called autozone and they said a new alternator is $185 and it looks like it'd be somewhat easy to do - i.e. no digging to find it. *sigh* If it's not one thing, it's another... looks like I gotta figure out how to get $200+ to fix the van before I can even think about new pans!! ha ha ha
