Hi Peoples.. (meanies, I mean)

I am curious... IRL what does everyone do? What do you have a degree in? Just a conversation starter I guess as that is something I have been thinking ALOT about lately.. is in the end what do I wanna get done...
I am currently home (just since last week and only until the baby is here and I have "bonded"), but normally I work full time as a RN on night shift. I work on a sub acute wing in a small hospital. Like super small (17 beds on med surg, 4 ICU beds, 6 ER beds, and 17 beds in Sub Acute). All my patients have had a traumatic brain injury and most are PVS [wikipedia.org], though lately we are getting more and more alert ppl, which is nice and hard at the same time!
I have 2 degrees, both in nursing. I got my LVN first (when I was 19) and then 4 years later my RN. Just made sense $ wise.

M2C I really am not super woman... alot of times I attempt not to take out all 8 by myself, except to the grocery store which is craziness.. but other than that normally I attempt to always have my dh or parents with me lol
I am currently a SAHM; before that I was working in Early Childhood Education - with infants - and loved my job. Up until I got married I was working on my 2-yr. degree in that field...and was nearly finished. Even though I loved my job the field is just not going the direction I agree with, so I know I would never go back for that....don't know what I will do when dd is in school! Have another kid I guess laugh out loud

Didn't know you homeschooled!! I thought long and hard about what I want to do with my dd when she is of school age....though I would *like* to have her at home I just don't think I'm organized enough to homeschool, and it's just definitely not my area of strength. So, I think we are going to send her to a very good private christian school here. Gotta start saving for that now though EEK!

hi all. what a long exhausting day. we were out from 11:30 this morning until 8 tonight. Much of that time was spent in the oncology office. Then it was across town for an MRI. Tomorrow morning at 8:30 she will have a biopsy.

This was how they explained it to her:

It is a large area about the size of a fist. It appears to have qualities of malignant cancer, and given the fact that she was just pregnant and the estrogen hormone is so heavy they are afraid of breast cancer that has metastised into her hip. BUT, he said that even though it looks like a malignancy, they really don't know WHAT it is. It could be benign. So at this point, she is doing what I had to do last year... wait. She is tired, scared, stressed and worried. She looks at Ellie and I see the love and fear in her eyes. I'm holding on to all hope that this will turn out o.k. We were fortunate that they are moving so fast. The doctor said by the way it looks, there no time to wait.

I'm keeping Ellie here tonight so Jason and Ema can get some rest...so I'm up again tonight Smilie

To be honest... I have NO DESIRE to go back to work once the kids are older. My secret plan is for us to have 3 rental properties by the time the little one starts K, and I'll just manage those. We already have 1 rental house, and we put an offer in on a condo last week so we're waiting to hear on that. We'll see what happens. I'm not opposed to going back to work, I just don't really want to. Wink
Very nice!! I can understand not wanting to work for anyone else!! Completely!! I wish you the best with being a "rental manager". I hate having a schedule.. however, DH and I were discussing it and in order to buy the house like I want... we would both have to work waaaaaaa lol When do you hear back about the condo? Sending good vibes!!

CCNA wise, the electronic networks are changing so rapidly, I can see why he wants to rewatch possibly updated videos.

The Army threw out valid, two year certificates this past year, in that it used to be when you passed X, it was good for two years. Now, the certificate (per the Army) is worthless and you have three other certifications to do. Has been very expensive for both labor to study and companies to pay to take the test, as the Army isn't allowed to pay for the test itself.

Look at it this way flugette, if and when he does get his CCNA, he should never have a problem finding a job in the area that you live in.
These tests are ridiculously expensive - I am so thankful hubby's company pays for them. It was $75 for the one he took a couple weeks ago, which involved watching one video to study and then answering 14 questions. The CCNA is much more $$$, of course.

I have decided my contribution will be not pressuring him to help me in the evenings, but instead making it as easy/comfortable as possible for him to study. Said studying involves him watching videos at an accelerated viewing rate, meaning the dude is talking super fast like chipmunks. Kinda funny.

And you are exactly right - this cert will open doors for him, not just in his current job, but if he ever needs to look elsewhere. He is an excellent test-taker, and I have every confidence in his abilities to ace this.

I am a SAHM. I do the yard sale thing, selling my stockpile, plus I sell a little on ebay. I also sell with a direct sales company. I don't do a huge amount with that, just to the point where people in my church know where they can get their product from. I do parties if asked, but I don't seek them out.

Before kids, I was a corporate travel agent and really loved it. I worked all aspects of the job, including cust svc, VIP desk, etc. I think the only thing I didn't do was ticket agent. If I had chosen to make a career out of it, I definitely could have become manager, but I was more interested in building a family with my hubby. Still am, for that matter. While I get frustrated sometimes with the limitations placed on me by being a SAHM, I wouldn't give up this time with my kids for the world. I am open to doing something part-time once everyone's in school, but it would have to be the perfect gig and pay really well. Big Grin Shopping is just too much fun!!

No kidding on the saving for private school! Our son is going to our church's school, and while their tuition is the lowest in the area (they actually had to *raise* it for non-church folks because people thought the lower price meant a lesser quality education), its still $$. Every penny is worth it, though - he just adores his teacher, and she is doing such a fantastic job with him.

Oh, please don't tell me that. Did he go for the follow up to see if it had worked? Oh... now I'm going to be all paranoid.
