TLC extreme couponing update here. Looks like its not just another episode but a 12 episode series! Seriously?! Oh my we are in for a world of change, and I can't imagine it's going to be good.
I smell death in the air. And, I think it is going to be us.

I didn't particularly enjoy the Political Science degree -- guess who got to proof read all the papers? And I'm still proofreading stuff. Then he will call and ask what I thought of it and it really irritates him when I tell him that I didn't actually read it, I just proof read it. Yes, you can read a 15 page paper, catch the errors and not have any idea what it was actually about -- especially when it is about stuff that is of no interest to you. I am dreading his research thesis/project simply for the shear amount of writing required.

They changed their degree a little. It's now a Masters in Public Policy and Administration. He will also have a graduate certificate in Public Management, I believe. I don't know what he is going to do with it all. He likes and is leaning more toward the political arena.

He is doing an internship now for a political party. He did election stuff earlier (grunt work) now he is doing writing -- letters to the editor, etc.
Sounds like he has some good direction. If he likes politics - more power to him. Someone needs to get into politics and "shake it up a little". Oh - I can read that poli sci stuff too and have no idea what it said (and I wasn't even proofreading - I was supposed to be understanding it)! laugh out loud

Oh, goody. I'll actually be kind of surprised if it makes it all 12 episodes. Sure, it's kind of cool to see it a couple times, if you don't know how to do it, but over and over every week? I don't see it converting a lot of people to "super" couponing either. If you look at the responses in comment sections etc., most people thinks it's a bunch of obsessive nut cases.

I would really like to see TLC be honest about the actual out of pocket costs. One of them (Nathan, I think) bought a bunch of coupons for $70+, but that was never counted in his OOP.

It showed the nurse taking her collecting walk and the other one in a dumpster. Show us how long it actually takes to accumulate the coupons, then organize them in some usable manner.

You are not an oddball on this one. I feel the same way as you do. After I lost my daughter they told me I should never have more children. It would most likely cost me and the baby our lives. There are times I hurt inside thinking about this.

Sorry hug kids are an awesome blessing!

Holy early delivery batman. Something woke me up this morning (5:45) it was a faint knock. It was FedEx and the Hickory Farms Ham delivery (remember from my post 2 days ago). Who knew they delivered so early? What to do with so many hams at one time, at least they can sit outside today in their cooler (as cold as it is 5 degrees when I got up)
.
Wow, that is early.. I am still waiting on the coffee today!

Quote from ank220 :
Ugh. Woke up with another headache.

And aren't your kids supposed to grow up and move out? As much as I love mine, I am totally expecting them to grow up and get out!
Sorry about the headache.. That stinks!

And yes, they are supposed to.. I have told my 18 year old over and over that I expect him to get his degree, and get a job and a place of his own..

Quote from Thrifteh :
Have you looked into a reversal? It is an option. hug

Secret being pregnant @ 39 is far different than being pregnant @ 23. I just don't have the energy of a 20 something.
Yeah, I know it is harder.. I said that the last time.. I was pregnant at 21,23,25, and then 36.. and yeah, the last was much harder.. I guess that was one reason I thought I should stop.. I just love having a little one! And yes, I know reversal in an option.. But, not one I want to try.. If I didn't have 4, maybe.. But, I just accept that God gave me 4 beautiful healthy kids, and I am blessed and very happy with that.. Like I say, grandkids are probably in my next 10 year future since I have a 18 and 16 year old.. And my last DD is such a sweet blessing.. I have enjoyed her so much. I don't know if it is because I am older and not as stressed about things, or because I knew she was the last.. But, she has been so much more fun! And, she enjoys being the princess.. SHe would totally freak with another baby laugh out loud

when I was younger I never ever wanted kids... just was never a patient person to say the least... I absolutely always adored animals.. kids..so so... but I had my dd Kayla and she was an angel and had me suckered in.. now I think I will be SUPER depressed when the kids get older... as I am sooooooooo used to having them to baby/pamper.. but I think it will be good and bad.. you know!?!

Sending many many hugs!!
See that is how I feel.. depressed at the thought of them growing up and not having someone to take care of.. with each milestone my DD has passed, I have that feeling.. when she weaned from BF, I was sad cause I could never BF another baby.. when she was fully PT, I was a little sad about that too.. cause it just seemed like another sign of losing my "baby" I just love being a mommy! I went to college to be a nurse, but all I ever really wanted to be was a wife and mom Smilie

I feel the same way. Some days I long for me time.. But, I love my morning snuggles, cartoons, and play time!

I homeschooled both kids. When we first started, it had only been legal in Iowa for a few months.
.

Let me tell ya a story. *SNIP*

So, if you want to do it. Don't doubt yourself. Dive in and go for it. You don't have to commit to it forever. Make the choice one year at a time. You are home schooling now -- aren't you the one teaching her to do everything? Who will teach her her colors, shapes, numbers, letters, manners, how to talk, where to go potty, how to eat with a spoon? That be you, Dearie. You are doing it now.

The amount of material out there is amazing. You can go anywhere from creating everything yourself -- maybe not the best option for you -- to stuff that is laid out in daily lesson plans to somewhere in between. There are a lot of easy ways to organize and stay on track without it being overwhelming. And, part of the beauty of hsing is that you can work at your own pace how and when it works best for all of you.

)
That was a great story.. Kinda the same story I could tell of many people I know.. My story was like this.. I always knew I didn't want to send the kids to public school. Something I felt strongly about since we had children.. Mine did go to a Christian school at our church for several years.. Well, when I added the third child to school (he was in preK), I took a job as a teachers assistant at the school just to get a break on tuition. Anyway, my 3 year old was in preK and the others were K and 2nd.. My 3 year old would cry for me everyday.. never seemed to get better. He would physically seem sick when it was time to go into class.. I felt so guilty.. I couldn't believe what kind of mom I was to be pushing my kid in the class each day. At the same time, I was taking my 2nd graded home from class early atleast 2 days a week, because the younger kids got out at noon, and I didn't want to come back and get him at 2.. His teacher was great and would give me the work, and I would do it at home.. After a few weeks, my DH even said, "why can't you just do all this work with him?" And he was right, it worked fine!
One of the reasons I love HS is this.. We can get all work done at home in a matter of 2 hours, what it takes 8 hours to do at school.. So, instead of me sending my little one to someone else for the bulk of the day, I get to spend it with them Smilie
Does it take patience.. sure! Am I always patient.. nope! Do we have days that we do nothing.. most definitely! But, when they are in elementary school, I don't feel the need to do so much work with them. They don't need a full day.
As Gt said.. learning takes many forms.. teaching them to tie shoes, wipe their bottom, count, color, etc.. We used to make all kinds of fun things learning opportunities. I dearly heart homeschooling when they are little!

Now, as they get older, it isn't as fun, I will admit.. Now, I have one who graduated.. one who is a junior, and one who will start high school next year. Yeah, the work load has gotten much harder. They pretty much are self taught at this point. They read their lesson, ask questions if they need to. If I can't figure it out, I seek other resources.. I do look forward to the Highschoolers graduating! It is so much more stressful! But, I am super excited about teaching my 3 year old how to readwoot And add, subract, write, and multiply!

It is definitely not for everyone!! Nothing in life is.. But, I do know many people who started out trying it for one year, and loving it! There is no certain learning style that works for every child.. each one us unique and whatever works for your kid and your family is what is best !

I mean who actually walks into a store and buys 100+ of any item and applies 100+ coupons. Who needs those kinds of quantities? Crazy And yes, I resell and donate but would never in a gazillions years think to coupon in this manner.

I guess we now know what Bunnies foreboding feeling is. Dum da dum dum.

I don't have a degree, I tell everyone I went to college and got my MRS. Found my hubby there. I do have a certificate in Records Management, now working in medical records for a OB/GYN office, so gals considering have DH get the big V, have you looked into Essure? A non-surgical option for women that is usually paid for 100% by insurance.

We sent our first one to Kindergarten in a private Christian school too. It was K - 2 in one class room. Our intention was to send him for K (it was half days) and let #2 kid have some alone time with me, then probably HS.

He loved it at first. Especially the principal who would come take the K kids for a play/treat break while the teacher did some other stuff with Grades 1-2. Then my kid starting barfing in the mornings. I found out the principal had left. I talked to the teacher and this 23 year old little twit told me my kid didn't want to be away from Mommy. Ummmm, this was a kid that we were afraid would walk off with anybody. Don't think so. Not to mention this didn't start til several weeks in.

I decided I would go sit in the class room one day just to see what in the hell was going on. Let's just say, by 11:30, my son was getting his stuff out of his cubby, we were ripping his papers off the wall and we were headed home. For good.

I had a handwriting paper of his in my file for years. It wasn't perfect, but you could read the letters easily. In big red letters it said POOR WORK. She also told us -- actually told us -- that she didn't really like little kids. I hope she is stuck somewhere in a miserable dead end job with a really nasty boss.

I have always felt really badly for kids who have to spend all day in school and then come home and do hours of homework. Once I had picked the materials, I blocked out a schedule over the school year. Some stuff already had it laid out and I adjusted for our school year. Then, we often had 4 day weeks as long as the work was done. We took a really long Christmas break.

My son was constantly asking for tomorrow's stuff so he could get done early. By about second or third grade, I was handing him a list for the week. I didn't care when it got done BUT -- all help was during the day (once Daddy was home, I was done) and I had to have every thing to be checked and his corrections made by noonish on Friday. He has always been a night owl. I used to get up in the morning and find papers on my end table. #2 kid hated anything related to school. I had to practically duct tape her to a chair.

Next our families are going to say 'why not' and then they will pressure to go out and buy 100 of the items. They will say that you should do it, give them 1/2 so they can resell and make money and if you don't do it, well then your just selfish. Wink

Remember the cheese for nachos discussion? I bought some El Viajero Mexican Dipping Cheese at Walmart (much better hispanic foods selection than T has) and it was quite good. I cut it into cubes and then microwaved it at 50% power for a couple of minutes. I smeared a little on the low carb tortillas today that I had with onions and peppers and the last of the steak. It firms up pretty quickly, but is tasty.

Regarding the TLC show, I haven't dumpster dived in a while (early November), but I'm wondering how this will change the open recycle trailers in the county over. This is all newspapers, but you never (or extremely rarely) find bundles of papers.
Dig and dig and dig and find nothing (or ancient papers) or what? I guess time will tell. I already see an increase in $$ on ebay for Qs.

yeah, mine have always kinda worked at their own pace. When they were elementary and even early middle school, we only did a 4 day work week as well. We would use one day to do a field trip, go to the park, or playday with the homeschool group. As they have gotten older, we don't take as many "free" days.. They do also have music classes they take that wipe out an entire day.
I have pretty much always gone with the list of what is due for the week. Sometimes they finish early, sometimes not. My oldest was the one I had to tie down to finish the work. he is still the same way in college.. He does everything very last minute. My younger son finishes everything early. There have been years that he finished all work before Christmas break by December 1st and was able to take the entire month off.
We also change our schedule so we don't start as early as the other kids.. we usually start after labor day and finish early may.
Mine are night owls too. they sometimes work into the evening, but they don't start early in the day.. whatever, as long as it gets done!

I saw some "white mexican" queso cheese at kroger in the deli area too. I think we have bought it before and it was pretty good.. I can't find this cheese I used to buy. It was a white cheese, and somekind of mexican frying cheese. It would hold up well when you pan fried it. I used to love it for a snack, but can't find it anymore Frown

I have noticed the price of coupons has really seemed to go up on ebay lately too!
