Should women stay in the kitchen where they belong?

24,836 1,948 May 31, 2006 at 12:24 PM in Question
Women - do you cook as well as your mother/mother-in-law ... did they cook as well as their mothers? ...or course not...

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think once women were allowed this whole 'equal rights thing' it signaled the downfall of our civilization. Higher divorce rates, higher teenage pregancies, obesity (since we have to eat out more), the ozone layer (that may be a stretch), etc. Let's get America back on track and the women back into the kitchen where they belong!

Decent rules to live by can be found here: https://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=14128&t=801311 Just subsitute "woman" for "server" and you've got the start of a good list.

So you're a woman and you agree that women getting equal rights signaled the downfall of our civilization? Confused
I think it's more a question of, "what's best for the family." You don't EVER hear men whining about having to work to support a family. That is an absolute given and if a guy DOES complain about it, he will get NO sympathy from ANYONE, period. Now, women are starting to complain about housework, and they get TONS of sympathy....doesn't make sense. Just a double standard, I guess.

Maybe that has something to do with the fact that men who work have many options open to them, while women who think it's their duty to stay at home have ONE option. Housewife. That doesn't sound very appealing to me.

is that book the one where you cook for a day and freeze it all? I would love to do that but my freezer is SO tiny...and no room for another freezer.(small house...."starter house" as hubby called it...haven't moved out yetRanting)
I cook too...but I don't spend all my time in the kitchen. I do easy meals that satisfy yet are fast and simple. there are so many options! Like tonight was a really easy night...mac and cheese and sausage. Tomorrow is pork chops probably...not sure yet.
I have a tiny freezer too - the one that's on the fridge. That's it. The beauty of this cookbook is that the recipes are set up with cooking instructions for x3, x6 and x9 batches. Everything freezes flat in gallon bags, so it fits great in your freezer. I'm not storing frozen chicken I'll never eat anymore - I'm storing yummy meals that are a snap to finish preparing.

I do 2 or 3 recipes x3 in a morning and have enough to eat for 2 weeks. If I do this once every week or so, I have a pretty good rotation going. I freeze some in smaller portions for my FIL, as he lives alone and doesn't cook for himself. This way I can pretend he's eating something other than Hooters Wings all the time. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Seriously - it's $9.74 on Amazon. Check it out.

Don't Panic -Dinner's in the Freezer [amazon.com]

I've made most of the freezable recipes in it, and haven't come up with anything yucky yet. Some stuff I wouldn't crave daily, but nothing bad at all. I've bought 3 copies for gifts so far - it's that good. Every new bride gets one of these from me from now on. nod It's cut my dinner time stress level down sooo much. We're eating healthier, there's minimal clean up and it's good food!

Nah, not the hippies' fault (hat tip biker eric). it started in the garden. eve disobeyed while adam watched (he didn't exercise leadership, nor did he seek to serve and protect his bride). from then on, there has been a contention for power in every marriage, be it small or large.

my constant temptation in my marriage is to be lazy and not to truly know, serve, and protect my wife. i would say my wife's constant temptation would be to lead in everything, and give me no say. it has the potential to be a vicious circle, but we are both aware of these temptations, and we both fight them daily.

I have the option to be president of the United States, doesn't mean I have a chance of it EVER happening. A lot of guys work crap jobs so they can support their family, it's not like we have all kinds of options to make mucho bucks. We learn to deal with it, maybe you should.

Lots of women have to work crap jobs to support their families as well. But, within those crap jobs, they still have choice.

Do you see any appeal in having to stay at home for, basically, your whole life?

No, but I don't think the way women do.

I could not have said it better in a poll myself. Stupid double-standards. Men have to give, give, give, and all we ask for is a warm meal, a clean house, take care of the kids, oral treats when we greet our women at the door or leave to go to the mailbox or check the weather outside, unlimited access to 'playtime', and cold beer in the fridge. Oh yea, that incessant yapping on the phone with your Mom? Enough with that, the phone is for emergencies and pizzas.

... but at least you're ahead of the curve and understanding your place in society!

(ok, even I thought I sounded like a chauvenist with that one!) laugh out loud

That's great for your wife, but hopefully she's doing it by choice. I have no problem with her choosing to stay at home, but I think having the choice is important.
