I'm not sure I got a report card from junior high onward that didn't say "does not work to potential" Prop
Well, if he wants to get a scholarship to college, he'd better start working to his potential. Mad He's going to do his work...one way or the other.

Well, everyone knew I wasn't going to college... I think there were a few years there they were surprised that I wasn't lying dead in a ditch or something.

I was also very lazy, and my parents knew that and tried to change it, but... well... it's hard to change laziness laugh out loud

I got good grades but did very little. If I put in actual effort, I could have gotten all A's laugh out loud

It had better because I'm sick of it. I usually go to bat for him with his dad, but if he's not even going to try, I'm not sticking up for him. Robert and I discussed it and made the agreement about him being grounded before he ever got home. Also, his teachers have been asked to let me know IMMEDIATELY if he misses ANY assignment. Bell ringers, test, homework...I don't care if he is supposed to sign his name for 5 pts and doesn't do it, I will be told.

That's what I told him. If he were truly struggling that's one thing, but test scores of 91 tells me he's not. Plus, he just doesn't seem to care as long as he can skate by. If I was scared I'd be grounded for my grades, I'd do every single assignment, so at the very LEAST, I could say. "Hey, I did EVERYTHING."
The thing that got me and Froggy mentions it above is that if I'm scoring good on the tests who cares about the rest of the work..it just seems to be busy work...

Well I can now understand it...doing that work, even though it can be mundane, builds other skills that you use at work later on in life...I find that my work habits and skills would be a lot better if I had did all that work, etc...so perhaps explaining to him something along these lines that it's part of a bigger picture, etc...Dontknow

I don't know whether to laugh out loud at the first part or Comfort at the second part.

Did I not tell you about his cheating experience?
Genius actually DOES one of his assignments.......and emails it to several friends. They also used it. Apparently, none of them are smart enough to realize that if she reads the same thing over and over, she'll catch on. He had to redo it for 1/2 credit.

laugh out loud no, I didn't hear that.

I used to copy my friends HW in exchange for me double checking their work. I found mistakes, and I got to copy it vs. doing it. Win-win Whee

As DC said, I hated mundane work as well Dontknow

Well, his work skills are lacking at this point, too. He's skipped chores. He's also been ignoring his bedtime. Free ride is over. I don't care if I have to be a jailer. It's over. He had the opportunity to do stuff for the school that would have looked good on college apps and he screwed around and messed it up. This summer, he could have made extra money mowing yards, but he decided xbox was more important.

Mundane or not, they're his assignments, and he will be doing them. I don't see him holding a job too long if his boss keeps telling him to do things and he decides to play xbox instead. Plus, if he gets a 91 on tests not tryingthat hard, what could he do if he actually did everything and learned it all?

Whip You go, Mama. One thing I cannot stand is outright laziness. Having problem with the subject matter I can understand, but to flat out refuse to do your work is inexcusable. It's school, not choose your own adventure time. Annoyed

I have this problem with BT a lot.
Love that line. laugh out loud

I wasn't purposefully ignoring my homework, per se..... turns out I have ADD that didn't get diagnosed until this past year. I do wish it had been caught earlier so I could have learned those skills because it's something I still struggle with daily.

On the other side of it, I did get my first job at 14, because I wanted to make some money (so I could buy games and stuff laugh out loud)

My best cheating experience was in Jr. High. I worked together with the guy sitting next to me to discreetly flip the pages of the text book between us to the right page so we could look up the answers. This was history, which was the only subject I really struggled with.

Different field, but if I get something that's mundane/stupid/tedious/boring at work, I tend to be here more often and take my time with the assignment (but still get it done within time limits)

If i get something that actually challenges me/interests me, you wont see me here at all laugh out loud
