Christina Aguilera messes up the National Anthem lyrics at the Superbowl

12,104 277 February 6, 2011 at 05:51 PM in Sad (2)
Does anyone else think she looked a little drunk/high? She definitely looked a little off.

Linky [radaronline.com]

"The first big goof of the Super Bowl was not committed by the Green Bay Packers or Pittsburgh Steelers. No, credit the first mistake to Christina Aguilera who botched the lyrics to the national anthem!

Sure the players were nervous as the success of an entire season came down to 60 minutes of football. But Aguilera recently stated she's been singing the national anthem since she was a little girl – so no one expected her to goof!

The singer's mistake happened on the fourth line, which should have been: "O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?" Instead, Christina sang: "What so proudly we (garbled) at the twilight's last gleaming."

Believe it, everyone, because it will live forever on video!"

Ridiculous. So she's a whore because of the boundaries she pushes on stage? Is Beyonce a "whore" too? She's probably the most respectable of all the pop stars out there. It's not like her life is a train wreck, her personal life is pristine by Hollywood standards. There's a huge difference between CA and those who's entire lives are a mess like Lohan and Spears.
A more broad term like skank is probably more accurate to cover them. Most people think of the literal definition of whore so that doesn't really work.

I wasn't even using the literal definition. I'm just trying to separate their performance persona from the actual person. Britney IMO is not particularly different from what we see on stage or in the tabloids. But I think Christina is different from what we see on stage, case in point being that we hardly ever see her in the tabloids.

I can understand if some little kid messes up the national anthem... but an adult who sings for a career should easily be able to remember the lines to our national anthem and sing them without an issue.

It's one thing to know them and quite another to sing in front of 100,000 in person and hundreds of millions around the world. Anyone can make a mistake. It was one line. I'm not saying it's acceptable, but it's not the worst gaffe either. Shit happens.

Pfft.

It's her farking job to sing songs properly. I don't care if it was live in front of 14 people or 14 million people, she's nothing but a farkup.

Oh yeah, it could definitely be worse and really wasn't that terrible. I just like ot think that someone who is used to performing in front of large crowds should be able to remember the necessary lyrics. She does for her shows...

Are you saying that you've never made a mistake at your job? Everyone makes mistakes, it's just that some jobs are more high profile or important than others. A janitor makes a mistake and he can just clean it again, but a heart surgeon makes a mistake and somebody dies. A wedding singer makes a mistake and 200 people hear it, Aguilera makes it and 500 million hear it. The point is, everyone makes mistakes, just because it's on the biggest stage does not make it "worse". It's not as though she was wholly unprepared, she just made a mistake.

Does she? I promise you she's made mistakes before. Everyone does. She's probably put on over 1000 shows in her career, performed tens of thousands of songs. You don't think she makes a mistake now and then?

Did I say that? laugh out loud I'm not saying she doesn't make mistakes, every one does. No, it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. I just like to hear out national anthem sung correctly.

She wasn't as bad as Roseanne, but she was farkin' close, with that "cat-in-a-microwave" wailing/bleating at the end. Christ, it was bad.

My point is that the "professional" should have been able to properly sing a short, relatively simple song without farking it up. In terms of what she's supposed to be able to do, it's a pretty big professional mistake.

Not as big a mistake as the Black Eyed Peas, uh, actually performing, but still a damn big one.

why is that? some schools are no longer allowed to sing the national anthem or the pledge of alleg. i hate to say it but give it another 100 years and most people will not know the words of either of these.

god forbid if an atheist, or anyone who doesnt believe in god, actually has to use the word god. parents will sue the school, the news will pick it up, nancy grace will run her chicken hawk face over it, and our school systems will kill those 2 songs permanently.

i love it...the collapse of society is slowly but sherly happening. im glad i will be dead before total anarchy happens.

pretty sad that she can't remember the lyrics for what is basically an eight-line song. if you're nervous, get a teleprompter or something, but when a few hundred million people are watching, you might want to make sure you get it right.

it would be hilarious if in thirty years, whenever someone brings up her name, all they'll remember is that she botches the lyrics for the national anthem at a super bowl.
