Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

For those of you that don't like the touch panel for mouse control and are using a USB mouse, you'll want to follow these instructions so you don't use the built in mouse pad when you are trying to type.

click Start / click Control Panel
under Hardware and Sound, click View Devices and Printers
right-click the top one that has the picture of your netbook, select 4th option - "Mouse Settings"
A window pops up - select the far right tab that says "ELAN". Half way down is an option that says "Disable when external USB pointing device plug in"

I'm not sure why this wasn't a default setting, but this is the way to do it. I've heard several people who aren't fond of the built in mouse panel. This will turn it off if it detects that you have a USB mouse plugged in.

I'll post this over in the Snus forum, too... maybe I'll get some reps
Cool

Your advice is always appreciated, so don't stop giving it. Now if I could just find your post with a link to the memory upgrade.

Flash drive doesn't work for me either -- I tried to format it 3 ways in Windows, and then downloaded some low-level format tools. None of them worked at all.
I can see it in Linux, but it says it's not formatted and fails on trying to format it. Does windows device mgr show any mfgr info on the card reader?

How you partition your drive is mostly a matter of personal taste. If your are going to multi-boot different operating systems then you usually want them each in their own partition, but otherwise there is no hard & fast rules.

On a typical one-OS Windows box I usually just do one big partition (Linux usually creates a separate swap partition with a different file format, but that's a Linux thing). Some folks like to have a data partition and an operating system partition, which can be handy if you find you want to reinstall the OS, but you may end up maxing one out (if you install a lot of programs or have a lot of data) which can be a pain later on. There are utilities that will let you resize partitions non-destructively (not destroying what's in them) so you can always change your partition arrangement if you find it doesn't suit you, though it can take a few hours.
Well, in hindsight I wish I hadn't done it. However, since the netbook is not going to be my main computer, I think I'll be okay. I'll have to do a little research on how best to use each so I don't run out of space. I'll just use one OS. Thank you.

Windows just pops up an error that the disc needs to be formatted, then fails in both quick and full formats for FAT32 and NTFS. Windows Drive Explorer and low-level format tools do not show any manufacturer info and then when they fail, they either say that the drive is write-protected or there is no media in the drive.

Just make sure anything you order is DDR3 SODIMM. A DDR3 DIMM is for a desktop and won't work on the netbook.
Either PC3-10600 or PC3-8500 are both compatible, with the 10600 being newer and faster. (and cheaper in the case of what I bought and installed)

worshipworshiphug Yes, I remember you saying one was better than another. Thanks for the specifications. I've put memory in desktops on several occasions over the years. Looks even easier in a laptop. Thank you so much.

Why? How did you partition it? While the system is still fresh and there isn't a lot of data to move is the time to fix it if you aren't happy.

Just go here:

I know the feeling!! When I ask my roomie for advice, he makes it sound like I am asking for his first born, and doesn't want to be bothered!! So I just say "That is ok, I will ask my friends on SD!!"

Anyone try loading Windows 7 Ultimate on the netbook yet? I have a spare copy and would rather run that than 7 starter.
