You know, come to think of it the chicken taco meat I did in the crockpot today DID taste better and I made it with Ortega seasoning for the first time. We usually have OEP too. Scratchhead Hmmmmmmm....
Quote from setsail :
The reason that I first switched was that I actually looked up the ingredients in the taco seasoning. The preservative in the Old El Paso stuff is ethoxyquin, which has questionable safety. Ortega doesn't use this preservative, instead using sulfites (which are bad too).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethoxyquin
i stopped buying old el paso when i finally read the ingredient list and they have trans fats in there (remember, zero really doesn't mean zero when it comes to food. you must read the ingredient list.) i remember checking ortega and it didn't have but i didn't have a couponEEK!! i gotta go look for this coupon....

i checked 28001 and couldn't find them, sorry!

Good morning friends Smilie
Already threw a roast in the crockpot so dinner won't be a last minute thought. I don't do well at all with last minute. Either we end up with something quick like grilled cheese, soup, etc.. or I let the kids talk me into take out.. I am trying to get my meals planned out earlier, so all goes well. I worked all day yesterday and made dinner Sunday night.. All the family had to do was toss the pan in the oven for 30 minutes and dinner was done. DH appreciated it being taken care of when he got home and they said it was good.. I am going to try to start making out a menu plan for the week and see how that goes.. Does anyone do that?? DO you make it for the week, the month, or just as you go?
i kinda plan. i definitely do not do like bff and stick my head in the frig at 5-5:30pm to try to figure out what to make for dinner and then end up eating frozen food. who btw, has come around to planning what to cook for dinner since she joined weight watchers. she said it makes life easier. finally!

when i go to the supermarket/produce market/asian market i try to pick up at least 3 different kinds of veggies, whatever is in season and on sale. if i buy red or green peppers, i try to also buy mushrooms. i always have some onions on hand. frozen peas and canned corn for emergencies. frozen bagged veggie mixes when i can get them cheap or free for emergency also.

then i plan my meals around the veggies i bought for the week and whatever meat i bought or have in the freezer.

certain veggies i usually stir fry b/c we definitely eat more veggies, less meat that way.

so if i buy broccoli, it usually gets stir fried w/ onions, red pepper for color and either shrimp, chicken, maybe beef. dh and i eat one bunch of broccoli, a small onion and half lb of meat this way. if i have mushrooms, i'll throw that in too.

if i buy peppers and i have mushrooms, since i like pasta, i will make a pot of pasta, peppers, mushrooms and onions usually w/ chicken, sausage or ground turkey. dh doesn't like peppers but won't complain if i cook them this way.

asparagus usually gets stir fried w/ shrimp, chicken, ham or beef, onion and mushrooms if i have them.

i buy steelhead salmon every time i go to costco b/c they say to stay away from farmed atlantic salmon. since it's fish and we have to eat it right away, i plan the veggie around the salmon. if ribs or pork chops are cheap then i plan the veggie around them.

during the winter i try to make a noodle soup for dinner at least once/wk. so whatever veggie will work in soup and then whatever meat w/ go w/ it, usually chicken, ham or shrimp. i don't like beef in soup. ok in stew.

b/c my supermarket runs a lot of wed-fri specials, i don't go to the supermarket till wed or fri (thurs they are usually all out of the sale items and you end up w/ a bunch of rainchecks). and then for whatever reason, we are usually out and about at least a couple times/wk and don't eat at home so if i buy more than 3 meals of veggies they end up being over a wk old and by that time i'm going to the supermarket again. this wk dh got preview tix to the mechanics at 7pm tomorrow at a mall at least an hr away so we will be eating out. saturday we are going to a banquet. this wk there are the usual w-f specials so if i went to the supermarket tomorrow i would get veggies for th, fr, and maybe sunday. veggies are cheaper in chinatown, so i would buy some b4 the banquet for next m,t,w and then i'm going to the supermarket again.

the bottom line is i always know the nite b4 what i'm going to cook for dinner. what veggie i'm going to cook and if i need to defrost something i'll take it out then. if meat needs to be marinated, i'll do it the nite b4. if shrimp is involved i'm usually lazy about that and just defrost under cold running water while i'm preparing dinner.

to make matters worse in the past people who bought stuff from LS said they ended up with fake charges on their card so now everyone is going into their LS accounts and deleting emails and cc info.

need i go on?

yes there is a thread. let me go find it.

eta: here read last several pages (after deal closed, say sometime thursday afternoon onwards, when people started seeing the mayhem that was starting up), you'll see me and others complaining.
WOW! Thanks for the heads up and the info- what a hassle! I missed that deal and when I saw this one, knew I wanted to get in on it as I'm just starting to get back into CVS. Now I'm wondering....guess I should of researched a little more before I just followed the herd. Sorry about that. Hope it turns out to be legit.

their terms of service said one per account. so people ordered from different accounts. then halfway through the day they changed it to say one per person. then somwhere after the deal had closed i guess they decided to interpret that as one per ip, one per billing address, one per name, one per credit card, god knows what else.
at any rate, tons and tons of people's orders were just canceled randomly or left hanging with no response. bank accounts/credit cards charged but cards not delivered. orders wrongly canceled and then told well we're sorry but the deal has closed so we can give you nothing but would you like a $10 credit to LS to use sometime in the future? um no. people don't want to pay for a credit to LS!
others have gotten emails saying we determined that you have placed a duplicate order, even though they never did but apparently they have a common name and someone else somewhere in the country placed an order for the deal.
LS is not responding to anyone's emails so people are getting frustrated. people are trying to post complaints on their twitter and FB pages but getting sporadic responses if at all. calling them gets people nowhere also.

to make matters worse in the past people who bought stuff from LS said they ended up with fake charges on their card so now everyone is going into their LS accounts and deleting emails and cc info.

Oh wow, that is some BS! Is there anything, you all, as consumers do to stick it to them, legally? I know class actions aren't really there for the little guys to make money off the big companies but sometimes it hurts them in the pocket. I wish it was eaiser to have the retailers/big guys pay the consequnces for that -- remember the FB coupon people?

no no, please don't apologize for sharing something you found! i didn't mean it as a put-down. i'm sorry if it came across that way. i've just ticked off with LS and the way they handled this, and I just wanted to warn folks so you guys could be aware for wierd happenings.
in any case, they are sold out. Smilie

nope. nothing to do except not do business with LS again and warn family/friends against them if asked, or at least don't recommend them to anyone.

DH's grandma had a bad stroke today so they are not going to do the surgery for the brain bleeding. She didn't recognize her kids or grandkids and was not talking. After talking with the doctors, the family decided to not do the surgery, take her off of dialysis, and take her home and have hospice come in. Hospice will keep her comfortable and wait for her to pass. No idea how long it will take - they said it will depend on when the kidneys shut down. I had to call dh and let him know, and while he knew her time was likely to be sooner rather than later, he's pretty shocked right now. heart Please pray for him - I think this will be especially hard for him.
