No actually - that was my next note... DH said that his co-worker's mother has passed away. I am still going to use up the rest of the q's I have here. We have a neighbor that drinks the stuff because she likes it (and I think she just doesn't like to cook), and a couple of the elderly folks at our church who use it - so I figured the coupons won't go to waste!

Hmm... I have some space heaters if you want 'em! *laugh*

Where is my ricola???

Okay... so I"ve been very complainy lately - and feel very complainy. Need to refocus.

I am soooo so soooo so so grateful that I have my beloved hubby. He loves and adores me for me. He NEVER says a bad word about me to ANYONE - ever. In fact, he says so many nice things to folks at work that there are women I've never physically met that say they hate me. Teehee In the nicest way, of course. Roll He's a great daddy, wonderful provider, helps out whenever I need, loves his kids and treats them well, and I'm pretty sure that if I asked him to bring me the moon - he'd find a way to bring it to me.

My oldest DD... she's a big help around the house, super smart though she doesn't always have the confidence that she is, and seems to have a pretty darned good head on her shoulders.

My monkey toddler is so energetic, fun, and exciting. Her brain goes 97 miles a second and she's always got some new and fascinating way of looking at life. She is determined, gives me a good run for my money, keeps me on my toes, and is my snuggle-buggle.

Mavis - delightful, charming, and the most spectacularly easy going baby in the whole wide world.

My family is so happy, so healthy, and so incredibly lovely. I am so blessed!

Then - there are you guys.

I have learned so many things. I have learned how to stretch our dollars to the utmost maximum, where to find the best deals, how to ask for help and be grateful and gracious and actually receive it, and I've even been Bonk a few times when I needed it!! (maybe not enough!) I am forgiven my many, many faults - probably more often than I realize. I can share and vent my thoughts and concerns. I can be silly and crazy here when I can't IRL. I can ask for advice, help, or a recipe and it's always given/offered. I can give virtual hugs and advice in return, and watch all the amazing, generous, and inspiring things happen in your lives. I am very grateful to be a part of this community!

Where are all the KC to St Louis Chit Chatters?

Here in KC we almost dodged the bullet considering we were forecast to have up to 18" originally and only got around 10". But still it was crazy. Didn't really look that bad, at least from my living room window, until late afternoon. Kept warning DH to try to get off a bit early. Shoot he goes in at 6am so early for him would have been before 3pm. But no, he dilly dallied around until it finally hit good and strong and now here it is midnight and he and at least a half dozen other guys are actually sleeping over in the break room at his work rather than trying to get home and then just have to turn around again in the morning.

I was able to take today off but I know the boss is going to be annoyed if I ask for tomorrow as well. But I'm not sure how I can avoid it. Son came down with a nasty ear infection of some sort tonight he's 7 and was crying over his ear as bad as if he had just taken a nasty fall. Gave him some kids antihistamine thingy that melts on your tongue (a MM from Wags sometime back) Seemed to help after a bit. But not really wanting to have to dig out the 3 foot drift at the back of the car in the morning with DH gone and take our son to work with me when he is sick.

Actually getting out would be worse if I hadn't had the foresight to open the storm door every half hour or so, as there is now a 4 foot snow drift right in front of our door with a little crescent shaped clearing. I will still have to dig out to get off the porch but at least I can open the door. Of course I was still too lazy to go out and shovel a path to the cars every hour like I did through the last big storm we had.

Oddly enough I am actually bummed we didn't get the full brunt of the storm. I kind of feel like if we are going to get hammered it might as well be a record breaking 2 footer like some to the east of us got.

ear infection... did you try a hot compress with a hot salt bundle, or a rice bundle? it's light and pliable and makes a big difference towards reducing pain, helping soothe the patient and get them to sleep.

raw rice... heat in a pan on stovetop or in oven, or in a cup in microwave, put in a cheesecloth or cotton kerchief or scarf, knot ends to make a bundle and use for compress. careful, it will be HOT.

salt... pour into a pan and heat on stovetop till salt starts crackling/popping and changes texture to be very fine-grained. pour into clean cotton cloth or a piece of cheesecloth. knot ends together to make bundle. be very very very careful when doing this cos the salt get superhot. but on the plus side it stays warm a long time, is lighter than rice and more pliable.

either one, when i first bundle it, i put a washcloth on skin and then do the compress. once the heat dissipates a bit, you can do direct compresses. both contents can be poured out and reheated, which is great.

another option, if you have a thermcare patch or one of those handwarmer/footwarmer things, you can give him one of those to use for warm compresses.

snow... got a foot. snow all day. plus some sleet.
another foot coming beginning in the a.m. plus some more of the wintry mix.
tried taking out a trashbag. couldn't even open the back door. lovely.

OK vampire fans, I am done with twilight..Now which series should I start reading?
I will also suggest you try the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris. I LOVED them and there are lots of books.

You might also like House of Night series by PC Cast. I thought it might be too juvenile for me, but I couldn't put the book down.

I'm just getting ready to start the first book in the Night Huntress series, Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. Ariel, have you read that series yet?

Drove through Sonic tonight for our 10# bag of ice! Also got my Torani raspberry syrup today, so I fixed me up a limeade without the lime. Need to find a deal on limes, not paying .50 each!

MOT2 you asked about granola bars...

we like the cascadian farm organic chewy granola bars in the chocolate chip, and also the vanilla chip flavors. (prefer the choc over the vanilla. the vanilla one is much sweeter).

we also like the Kashi TLC granola bars in cherry dark chocolate, chocolate coconut, and honey almond flax flavors.

finally bear naked makes some great granola cookies - love the double chocolate chunk; oatmeal raisin is nice, also. and they also of course have bags of granola in different flavors.

Do you have any Asian markets nearby? The limes are always cheapest at the Asian markets around here.

So, um, did ya know that bread bakes best when the oven is actually turned ON???

PLEASE read the Mercy Series by Patricia Briggs! The first book is Moon Called. It's about a strong female named Mercy who happens to be a skinwalker (shape-shifts to coyote). It's urban fantasy so she lives in a city near Seattle and has a normal life as a mechanic except for being friends with Fae, neighbor to a hunky Alpha werewolf, and friends with a vampire who drives a VW bus. Paranormal trouble always seems to find her and there's always a bit of mystery. I absolutely love this series and I try to tell everyone who's ever liked anything parnormal, fantasy or sci fi that they HAVE to read this. (Since I used to work at a bookstore that's quite a few people laugh out loud)

Granola bars- I came across this recipe while looking for a store brand that is peanut free. After making them, I won't buy ready made anymore. I only add chocolate chips, the Guittard brand. The semi sweet work better than milk chocolate.

Chewy Granola Bars
3 cups oats
1 cup flour
...1 t. baking soda
2 t. vanilla
2/3 cup butter, softened
½ cup honey
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 cup mini chocolate chips or M&Ms
Optional: raisins, dried fruit, sunflower seeds, chopped nuts
In a large bowl, combine oats, flour, and baking soda. In another bowl, combine vanilla, butter, honey, and brown sugar; add to oat mixture and stir until combined. Stir in the chocolate chips and pour into a lightly greased 9x13 pan. Lightly press mixture into the pan with the back of your spoon. Bake at 325 for 22 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes then cut into bars. Let bars cool completely in pan before removing or serving.

Oh very funny, as if I have a Trader Joe's! I sure wish we did, I stop by when we travel west to Seattle. They are building one in Spokane which opens this spring, and that's only a few hours drive east for me, we go there much more often than Seattle. But a little too far for just produce. LMAO The mexican market often has them cheap, will have to look in their ad tomorrow.

We do have a few Asian markets here, I never thought of looking there. I've never gone in any of them, but might have to look them up and check it out, thanks for that reminder, I've seen chatter about cheaper produce at the small ethnic markets.

And everything bakes best when the oven is on!

Oh I forgot about this one, I loved it too. Of couse it's written by a local author and takes place in my geographical area, that's one reason I was drawn to read it. Mercy's garage is in my city, but the older, downtown part...LOL! And for accuracy sakes, Seattle is nowhere near the Tri-Cities, but I know most people associate Seattle as being Washington state!

I can't wait until the next book in the series is released. It's been delayed a few months, but River Marked is due for release on March 1st!
