Yahoo! I finished my dd's cake!!!!! I am pretty happy with it. I had a little dilemma this AM when I went to cover it with the fondant and one corner and part of the back broke off and I had to piece it together VERY carefully. That was tedious work but I was not risking taking it all off and risking messing up the frosting, etc. Here's a pic!

ariela, all b/c of you i went to the library today to check out the chinese new yr festivities w/ my neighbor's daughters and esp to get the fever books. got faefever, dreamfever and reserved shadowfever. the library has 2 copies of shadowfever, both currently checked out. they should be either 7 or 14 day books, so i think i should be able to get it in a wk, 2 the most. wow! it's #6 on the new york times best seller list OMG. didn't realize they were that popular! considering she used to write romance novels.

i hope sooner rather than later, b/c i came across Dragongirl by Todd McCaffrey. seems he took on where his mom Anne McCaffrey left off. i used to read her books in high school and i've read a few of the newer books as i came across them a few years ago. i used to really be into science fiction/fantasy and still watch the scifi channel. actually pay more for cable just to get that channel. so i took out the book out of curiosity. it's one and a half times the size of the fever books so would like to read dreamfever and get shadowfever and read it w/o getting itchy fingers and start reading dragongirl and have to pause in the middle to read another book. esp since you said there is a big cliffhanger! that would be killer!

was going thru *the whole deal* that i picked up yesterday and noticed a whole bunch of coupon matchups w/ the mambo sprout booklet that's available at shoprite right now. of which i grabbed 3Big Grin! so unless they are still outrageously expensive after stacking mq's and store q's, i think i'll be trying-
lightlife
maranatha nut butter
san-j sauce
organic valley lowfat yoghurt
helios kefir

i also have a kashi bar q probably from a sample but i'm not exactly fond of bars, esp kashi and soy joy. cereals are all fine.

are there any products or flavors you recommend in particular? anything to stay away from? do they go on sale periodically? i noticed they changed the format of the newsletter and i don't see the wkly sale items any more. or maybe i'm just not looking in the right place.

I've wagged my big butt all over town. The new scanners are an absolute nightmare and all the cashiers have been threatened with losing their jobs if they type in a Q. Needless to say, I met a lot of AssMen today. Glad to be home.

You all know how I am about keeping food. I had a bottled frappucino from Starbucks tonight that I found in the frig and it was fine (expired in Feb 10).

Hug2 to ya gator. We've ALL been there.

Gator - what happened??

Wave

Daddy is grinning ear to ear - as much as he can. He's so miserably sick. I am slowly feeling better, thank goodness!!

They moved grandma to the hospice facility today. I think DH finally convinced them to do it for their own peace of mind and health. Every FB post by DH's aunt was sounding more and more panicky and rough. She needs some major rest and care herself (she's been the main caretaker.) It's so sad to watch this process - and we aren't even right there.

Posted this in deals, but have a question for the experts here... I found the muellers bag of egg noodles in my ST for .68. Luckily I printed a ton of the $1 ip's from their website last week for a superdoubles run that didn't happen. I just checked and muellers has taken down their ip's. Sadwalk Does anyone have an unexpired copy that could have some magic done on it? My ip's were beepless. Wink

hi ppl. haven't been on much last several days. gave up trying to catch up on this whirwind thread. when did you guys turn so talkative? wait never mind, talk: ank wants your chatter right now.

awake with pain. waiting for meds to kick in.
yep, remember the novella i posted in a chat with kay 12 early in the week? short recap:
....
priorotizing organic purchases, YOU WANT TO BUY ORGANIC:
all thin-skinned fruits and veggies
all root veggies
all leafy veggies/herbs/greens

reason: much higher pesticide usage/exposure/absorption for all of the above.

organic potatoes are about 3.99-4.99 a 5lb bag depending on the store - whole foods, trader joes, stop and stop, other supermarket chain. avail in russet, golden, red, and a bunch of other varieties.

organic onions, similar pricin for a big bag. don't know how much it weighs but has lots of big sized onions. same pricing generally for red or golden yellow or white onions.

*snip*

doc visit for me: ordered addt'l imaging. mri next week. was ticked off that ER had not referred me for a folo with a trauma specialist. said i needed that. said i also should have had someone doing folo up on abdomen and chest injuries. was disatisfied with PCP and asked me to see addtn'l docs. was displeased that i am still in pain without help.

but bottomline: inconclusive right now. awaiting more tests. and have to find more doctors to go to. how much do i want to do that? not at all. but will have to. sigh.
*Hug* to you. Prayers for you to get well soon..Hope you get to see the trauma specialist too.. This is very tough starting with getting an appointment to getting the results. You have come this far and hang in there for some more time..

Yeah to whole foods.. Today we went to costco, whole foods and TJ.. Whole goods ran out of some of those veggies.. Found those organic bread, they are pretty cheap compared to other stores..whole wheat, white bread are just 2.49 each, also got some seeded organic whole wheat hamburger buns..
Got an whole chicken, asked the butcher if he can cut them into cubes (they always do that in my neighbor wegmans).. he said he can only make them into 8 pieces..i thought it is ok, since that chicken is about 9.xx, which is usually cheaper thatn the one that i get from wegmans for 13.xx
never knew bad about onions, and never got organic ones.. i thought they are ok even if it is not organic..
Hubby got some breakfast blend coffee beans, ground it.. Any ideas how it tastes???
GG, costco sells Organic sugar, wholesome sweetner 10 lbs for 8.99, it used to be 7.99 before, so stocked up with 2 more packs since we dont get them quite often,...It is pricey in otherplaces...

My circle is 20 minutes east then 25 mintues north then west a bit then 45 minutes back home. If I were to drive it w/out stopping it would be over an hour and a half drive, then factor in 15/20 in each store - Today, we were out all day (threw a Target in there too, but only one form 10 a to 3/4 ish

He is 12 & 3/4s. I only just let him walk down the block to go to the local grocery when I was having the last YS, cause I ran out of price stickers...I couldn't concentrate, I couldn't add, I just watched him walk until I couldn't see him anymore, then just kept checking the time on my phone, Ugh. It was horrific, I hated every minute of it. I kept asking the strangers at ,my YS when they first let their child walk to the store by himself. I know I will have to let go sooner or later but it is super hard with #1, I am sure I'll be pushing #4 & #5 out of my life with no trouble laugh out loud

*Hug*Dazzled.I can totally relate to that....I am little like that too, even got shake headfrom kids pediatrician for being so protective Frown and getting them spoiled too much..

for gg-

so went to whole foods yesterday in search of veggies and chicken stock. i try to buy the pacific low sodium chicken broth b/c i try to have noodle soup once/wk during the winter and each bowl of noodle soup is 2 servings = 140 mg sodium. if i used regular low sodium chicken broth like college inn, 2 servings would be 900mg and i didn't put anything in there yet. if i used ham that would probably be the first and last meal of the day, sodium-wise. it was regular price 3.49 so instead, i picked up a carton of 365 to try. the sodium is double the pacific at 140mg per serving, but it's still 3X less the regular low sodium brands.

last yr i got an awesome deal at wegmans b4 xmas, around 1.79 a container. this yr was a little more. unfortunately my pantry is bulging w/ fruit cups b/c dh got laid off, juice boxes, etc, so i couldn't stock up like i wanted and i'm almost out. i did find at shoprite for around 2.49 once, but i never know when it's gonna be on sale and i don't have a habit of checking on things every single wk. if it's not in the circular, i have to depend on an sd'er or hcw person to find it and they will only do that if there is a coupon match involved.

the only veggie i ended up getting was the organic baby bok choy at 1.99/lb. it's really shanghainese bok choy and OMG they are not baby!!! those were the biggest i'd ever seen anywhere, at least double the regular size. regular sized ones are around the size of your hand. it also comes in *baby* size at asian markets, around 2.99/lb, about as long as your fingers. alot of them had gotten rather crushed, and since it's organic i didn't want any w/ broken leaves b/c it wouldn't last long at all. talk about picking produce.

shanghainese bok choy is usually under a dollar a lb, anywhere from .59-.89/lb depending on the neighborhood, what day of the wk and what time of the day. they charge more in the evenings on the way home and wknds.

they had large organic white onions at .99/lb which isn't too bad but i have to use up the onions at home first. i usually buy a 2 or 3lb bag and it's always a push to finish them b4 they go soft.

next wk i want to go to traders joes for something, of course i cannot remember what right now, so i will check out the produce a little closer. they have very decent prices on salad bags. too bad i don't like to eat salad in the winter!

i was going to get santa cruz lemonades free at my supermarket this wk after sale and double coupons but they were sold out. i did get rainchecks. normally i only buy 100% juices but i will try almost anything that is free and has no trans fat. it would be a treat.

i think since my supermarket doubles coupons and they do have sales more often than whole foods, i may focus on trying to get the organics there w/ coupons from mambo sprout, etc.

in the summer i like to go to wegmans and the farmers market b/c they sell a lot of very local produce. the corn on the cob is so good i only eat local in season.

ok, gotta go cook dinner!
hugSlowtech. I usually buy organic veggies and fruits, i will let know of the deals i come across @ wegmans, giants, WF and TJ is little cheaper when compared with other stores, they dont do coupons and no sale or deals.. pretty much the consistent prices..

glad on the little one that he was able to 'go'.

slow tech, i have some kashi coupons,if you are interested i can send them across to you..
If you want to make yogurt at home (without yogurt maker or anything).. i can guide you thro.. and we always make at home, ALWAYS.. pretty easy..
I would be interested in hearing about marnatha too, i have printed those coupons and waiting to buy some almond butter, preferable chocolate flavored since my DS#1 loved them, i will sneak saying those are 'nutella' - i dont buy nutella, all ingre not so good :-(

Could scrubbing down the house in bleach be considered a "work of necessity or mercy"?? My oldest is now saying she feels like she's coming down with something and her throat is starting to hurt. She feels like she's starting a fever. We haven't gone anywhere!!! UGH!

DH is having chills and moaning in his semi-sleep, baby is pale and snuffly. Ugh.

Oy. I guess this is just our sick month or something!

slowt... pacific broth: usually has insert mqs and also printables. whole deal frequently $1/2 so you can combine with the shelf price/sale price to get them for a 1.xx
also if you are not picky, imagine also has organic low sodium veg broth (and chicken, beef etc). imagine is part of hain celestial group (they have a ton of different organic labels). so on items from spectrum, arrowhead, imagine, and others you will find a 3/3 peelie. peelie always beeps (WF stores are accustomed to that. uber fine print of peelie says $10 purchase but it beeps on more or less). anyways, WF generally has store qs for 1/2 or 2/3 on imagine products. they come around every few months. so you can combine for a good deal.

kashi... we like some of the TLC bars. we also really like the kashi organic cereal. i personally especially like the vanilla one [kashi.com].
the kashi frozen pizzas are decent and a few of the frozen entrees are seriously yummy. but i don't buy frozen foods anymore and especially not things in plastic trays. we used to eat em a lot once upon a time. if you do look into getting em, check somewhere other than WF. regular grocery stores generally have far better kashi sales than WF. my best deal on kashi cereal was at T by the way = free. also bars were free at SNS at a sale. so it's something to look for. Big Grin

as for WF sales flier... you can get it online. just enter zip, select store from list and the flier is avail as a pdf. in addt'n different stores advertise their weekend special sales as well as their special weekly events differently. some prefer twitter, some facebook. most have the feed window on their homepage so you can look there.

produce... produce at WF sells fast. especially when you go in the evening, they're replenishing stock etc. make friends with your produce guys. they'll tell you when the truck comes and even tell you which things have been ordered on which truck. also if there are special things you like, talk to the produce manager about whether they do/can order. it really is like a neighborhood market.

holler anytime with any other questions about WF. one tip: that place is like a ship of sunken treasure. so best bet is on each trip, slowly peruse 2-3 aisles of boxed goods, making mental notes of things you'd be interested in if they had sales. once you have the store covered like that, you'll know the things of interest to you and can instantly spot the sales on future trips. otherwise shopping there will take forever cos everything looks and sounds yummy. also, i like combing the hot and cold food bar areas cos i always get ideas for fresh healthy sides and entrees.

kay... sorry they couldn't cube the chicken. try with someone different a different time. you know how that is. also MG has qs out on coupons.com and the MG website. be careful with coupons.com - a lot of people got a virus from there recently so i'd stay away for a few days or atleast ask around on printables thread before venturing there.

separate note to all: i've decided to take an SD break. at least for a while. maybe longer. figure i can't do any deals right now, so there's not much point in reading up on them and feeling disappointed. i'll try to pop in occasionally to say hello, i promise.
i hold each of you in my prayers and wish big magical happy things for you. thank you for all you have taught me and shared with me and for all your support, prayers and virtual love. it means a lot!

Blowkiss to all!

He rides the bus home from Middle school, while I carpool the elemenarty kids because that bus ride would end up being 75 minutes long. So sometimes I will run to RA after I get the little one and he is allowed to be home alone for like 5 minutes, but not too often or on a schedule - cause I don't need any kid-sized shenanigaizing.

Just today at T he was like Mom, I am growing out of my pants already.. I am all no way those are size 16s they dont go bigger and there is no way your skinny ass is fitting into #ed jeans. Well we found a pair of 28x30s in the mens dept and I had him go into the dressing room, he comes out all proud and smirking, they fit....in the waist but not the legs at 12 y/o he would already be at a 32 inseam - and F that I'll just get the 34s and say F-it. I really dont like it at all, I really can even bring myself to think about him being a teen, I am nearly throwing up....I am going to go lay down now. Sadwalk
My one and only baby turns 13 in 3 days....OMG soooo not ready!

Haven't booked her party at the hotel yet. Between us, her schedule and friends schedules it's been hard to book. I've got one weekend free in 2 weeks and no more til March/April. But then again with the freak snow storm in DFW, we have to check the school calendar for changes now to see if that weekend is now booked. shake head

We have been doing the separate shopping in T for the last year....where she goes down one aisle and I have to go another direction...soo hard to let go. She does check in usually every 5 minutes on her cell (usually to ask if I can come look at this or this to buy for her) which is comforting and if I don't hear from her I call her and ask where she is (usually dressing room) but it helps her independence and helps me not freak completely out.

Can't imagine the next 5 years....I'm sure it's going to be a blur. So not ready....

Being cooped up indoors without any fresh air keeps all the germs locked in. I would call it a work of necessity. Do you have one a vaporizer that has the medication section you can fill with Vicks to send out all over the house, too, to help everyone breathe and sleep better?

I know how you feel. My oldest is 14 and we've been doing the same thing for around a year to year-and-a-half. It still freaks me out and I am always wondering where she's at - especially if I think she's taking too long or not where I expect her to be (dressing rooms... lol). Cold

I don't have one of those kinds of vaporizers. Do they work really well? Once-upon-a-time I read that they can irritate airways, so I never did get one - but that's been several years. I do have a regular one but have been pulling my hair out trying to find the base for it. I have no idea how or why it got separated. Makes me so Mad - and I suspect that as soon as everyone feels perfectly fine, I'll be tripping over it or something. I may actually go pick one up because it's definitely getting dry in the house.

I am feeling a bit better though, so I am going to start scrubbing everything down tomorrow. This is just crazy how long we've been sick!
