So, hypothetically speaking, if you were planning to replace you roof and needed to figure out how many shingles to buy....would you:

a) measure/calculate the sq. footage you need to cover

-or-

b) take a picture of the roof and count the existing individual shingles

Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)
c) have a professional roofer provide the estimate and allow the company to buy them, as they will get a discount that homeowner's normally can't get.

Yeah.....c was definitely my first choice too Stick Out Tongue

But DH has this bright idea that his BIL is going to help him. I have no doubt between the two of them that they *can* get the job done.....however, I have to question this whole take-a-pic-of-the-roof-and-count-the-shingles thing (that was dh's idea.) Sometimes I just wonder WHERE he comes up with this stuff!!!

He comes from a family who *never* hires anyone to do anything. *sigh*.............

How is he going to factor in the cut or partial shingles or the ridge cap by counting the shingles? You also need 5-10% more shingles than your estimate for this very reason. A square of shingles is 3 bundles and generally covers 100 sq ft. He also needs to estimate for tarpaper, nails, caulking, and sealant. Does he know if any flashing or plywood (rot or water damage) needs to be replaced? Might not be a bad idea to get a professional estimate just to get a good materials estimate.

Your guess is as good as mine Teehee

Thank you for the info. I will pass it along.....errrrr I will take it into account....because I can tell from the lovely discussion he and I had today that he yet again has assumed he knows exactly what he is doing when he does not have a clue. And I am forseeing doing much of this math myself.

The BIL who is going to help him has professionally roofed....dh just fails to call and ask him this stuff because he thinks he knows what he's doing. Faint

If there's no option c, I'd be doing this for sure.

Just saw in the Walmart thread that they posted a new coupon policy HERE [walmartstores.com]. I can't believe they added this line:

Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.

I've got this printed out and will carry it with me. If you click on the "download" link, you get a nice 1-page with images on it. That should make it clear as mud to the cashiers.

I've never tried using catalinas, RRs there, but surely might try armed with this.

Thank you for bringing this over here. OMG Nice! It is about time though, the mfr have been giving retailers face value + .08 + shipping (if you look up and read mfr Q policies most, if not all, of them also reimburse reasonable shipping expenses for Qs to sorting facilities) all along. Now if they will just make their registers stop beeping on overage Qs like K and T! bounce

TY for letting us know. I'm a very very very rare WM shopper (and only with Qs). I usually only go there when I've got Qs for stuff that will be free (pampers wipes, gain dish detergent, etc). I always have a hard time though b/c the Q is usually for .01 more than the item, so this will definitely help! Smilie

I have been using the Purex $3/1 man q's on the TRIAL size Purex 3 in 1 (2pk) .97.

My local stores give me the face value of the q's(after fighting for it for months).

MAJOR OVERAGE!!
Off to try this at my SWM. Wish me luck, Big Grin
