Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh - you have a halo and wings. A kazillion kudos to you! I much prefer cooking with herbs and spices as well; I have a real aversion (sp?) to salt - can't stand the stuff. Funny thing, when I was "cooking" for my elderly Dad I had to give him a salt shaker and say "have at it" - his doc said his sodium level was low (he did say it was a naturally occurring elderly thing and not just because I didn't use salt in cooking - made me feel better). Bottom line here is - what you're doing is the greatest. Thanks for the recipe website; I'll check it out.

No saint here! Just taking care of people and hope when I am old I will get a little back because if I have to rely on my two boys, never gonna happen. I'm only 45 now so have some time I guess, divorced and never doing that again so I have the time and like to do it so a win win. That site is great. You can register (no charge) then save recipes you like to your "box" so you can find them again or delete if you didn't really like it, etc. I get some great stuff off there. Hope you find some stuff you like as well.

I don't know how I got started in it over two years ago now. Have a friend I hang out with and we go to his fathers about 2 hours north on the river often and I started taking stuff there for him and his live companion. Both couples went to church together and both spouses passed within months of each other so she moved in with him (separate rooms and the talk of the church gossip) but they get each other through and it's nice. Then a woman down the road from them started having problems and she got added to the list. Least the eat well. There are 3 days a week they are on their own for soup, sandwich or whatever and I cover 4 for each then drive it up there.

It really is rewarding and they get all excited over the littlest things. Thankfully, only salt issues which I don't cook much with as I like herbs and spices, no diabetics like my grandfather whom I cook for when I go there. There is a website called allrecipes.com which is a godsend for stuff!!
Awesome thing your doing bounce . Sometimes older people need good samaritans like you Smilie . They are lucky to get fresh garden food. Lots of work maintaining the garden. Sometimes the deer here get hungry and will hop 8 ft deer fence. Well, they were here first!!

I definetely know the scary feeling of having my 2 kids take care of me. My son keeps telling me, he'll just pull the plug. And he loves me. Gee I wonder?

the deer pretty much leave it alone but those bloody squirrels and chipmunks get me. I feed the squirrels on the other side of the yard and find only mothballs and noisy things like wind chimes (dollar store has some great ones) keep them out. Last year, I didn't get not one cuke. They left the squash, beans and everything else alone but the cucumbers!! I mean not one.

I have a 21 year old double major and lives year round at school because he does alot of volunteer work. Very focused on school and money. I told him he better do well because I plan on making his life H---LL like he has made mine his teen years when I am older and expect to live as nice in my old age as he did in his years with me. Shuts him up. The other is a senior in high school and will go to community college as well as a gamer so he doesnt' come out of his room much. Will be interesting but when he finishes his second year of school, that's it for me....selling this big house and getting a much smaller one story for me and my two dogs with ONE guest room.

Well, you're the same age I was when I started caring for my Dad who had a stroke. I took care of him for 7 years til he passed in 2007 at age 90. You will continue to have many very rewarding experiences ahead in all the good that you're doing. I did just check the recipe website and DING-got the perfect hit on a slow cooker recipe (I don't think I can screw that one up!).

Friends laugh at me, I bought a crock pot years ago because they all had one and talked about all the good stuff they make in it. Finally, after never using it, gave it away. Then bought another one two years ago and have used it and found some great recipes from that site. I just have this thing about leaving the house and leaving it on so still can't do that even though I know that's what they are made for, just stresses me to death. Same for the food dryer, I make alot of apple rings and deer jerky but can't leave it on when I leave the house so have to start it in the evening and do it overnight. Weird, I know. Glad your father had you there, bet it meant alot to him. These people are in their late 80s early 90s

Not weird to be fearful about leaving something cooking while you're gone. (it's like on the way to work, "oh darn did I turn the coffee pot off!?) I'm pretty much the same, but am lucky right now that hubby is home during the day. So do you have a lot of recipes for game meat? Up here we can find any of number of cookbooks that include recipes for moose meat. My sis's husband (AlaskaLady) is a supreme cook and does a lot with moose.

A big hey to all FF-ers - gotta put out there a big thank you for who you are and that we can share all kinds of topics. When my sis, AlaskaLady first told me about this place I was quite hesitant - because she did say it was addicting. She was right - and now I see why and that it's well worth it. Hug2 to all.
