RETIRED: A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Halloween II (2009) - 1.5/5 - Apparently Rob Zombie decided to make an art film instead of a horror movie. It's also not a good sign when Weird Al Yankovic makes a cameo appearance.

Youth in Revolt - 3/5 - Pretty entertaining movie.

Sorority Row - 4/5 - It starts with an underwear party at a sorority house, how could it go wrong from there?

Pandorum - 4/5 - Good sci-fi / suspense movie.

Up - 4/5 - Yes, it's a cartoon kids movie, but it's a good story and entertaining film.

Cop Out - 5/5 - Hilarious!!

Zombieland - 5/5 - Awesome movie, hopefully there will be a Zombieland 2.

How and when did Labyrinth make such a comeback? It's baffling to me since I saw it in a theater when it was released and it was okay but only because Bowie looked good back then.

Dontknow

I wouldn't say it's making a comeback. There's just lots of late 20s to early 30s people who loved it as a kid and still enjoy it as an adult.

I think you might also like Capturing the Friedmans... Another HBO documentary about messed up people who are accused of child molestation.
I watched it. Very good/captivating. I think I pretty much hate every single member of that family. Thanks again for the heads up.

Splice - It was so bad we ended doing a Mystery Science Theater commentary over it and making accurate plot predictions.

I saw Paradise Lost and the follow up film when they came out. It's just so obvious that the stepfather did it. Another sad case of a screwed up police investigation.

That's a good way to handle it - that flick was terrible (with some decent enough special effects.)

"Udaan" - A great Indian film about a young man dealing with an abusive father. I'm guessing that people who liked Slumdog might enjoy this (it is subtitled).

"The Fighter"
- I thought it was pretty good. There were a few moments where the dialogue was awkward and the story was a bit over the top, but all in all I liked it.
Christian Bale did a really good Mass. accent and didn't have to whisper-talk through it.

"Bastards of the Party"
- Decent enough HBO documentary on the history of LA gangs.

"Jack Goes Boating"
- Understated and really good - Philip Seymour Hoffman is great.

"127 Hours"
- I didn't like it nearly as much as I thought/hoped I would.

"How's Your News"
- The original HBO doc. Not bad.

The A Team.

I enjoyed it.

Oh, and as I stated in another thread this week...I watched Labyrinth for the first time this week (without seeing this thread).

As I also stated there:

You remind me of The Babe
What babe?
The babe with The Power
What power?
The power of Voodoo
Who do?
You do
Do what?
Remind me of The Babe

Paradise Lost 2: Revelations. Documentaries don't have an agenda but thankfully this one did.

Movie trivia time! The lines though slightly altered, originated from the 1947 Cary Grant film The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer. He has the exchange with a young girl who has a crush on his character - a much older man:

Hey, you remind me of a man.
What man?
Man with the power.
What power?
Power of hoodoo.
Hoodoo?
You do.
Do what?
Remind me of a man...

The Inside Man - Just watched this, was pretty good and suspenseful for a while there. Denzel Washington and Clive Owen and a very unusual type of bank robbery.

Can't wait to see that one, Netflix doesn't get it until 2/8 though, at the top of my queue!
