While my wife isn't pregnant, we both strongly feel that adopting a newborn is the right choice for us(for atleast our first kid). We are in the process of getting our homestudy completed and getting all the paperwork in and getting a profile up for birthmothers to see.
We have considered the county foster to adopt, but as a first kid we really want a newborn and through the county it is rare to get newborns(from what they say). If we adopt a second or third kid later in life, we would probably go this route though. We just really want to get all the experiences of the stages of life.
Its exciting news...we are in the process of saving and raising money because adoptions through an agency cost a pretty penny... but we are feel its worth it... just wanted to share because i am excited
we are very open on gender or race so the process should go quicker, we are also doing a domestic adoption as international adoptions require more legal work... now its time to set the room up for the homestudy and save save save...
if anyone has adopted and have tips or good info...please share!

My parents adopted my little sister many years ago. She's Amerasian and was 5 months old when they got her but it was a domestic adoption. They always said to adopt made them feel like they were part of something "bigger".
Good luck to you and your wife.
One company was recommended by our family friend who is an adoption lawyer, but they are so small that it normally takes up to 2 years. The other company our friend went through, our lawyer said she hasn't heard any complaints about them, and they are an A+ on BBB and they can get us an newborn within 3-6 months... They both cost about the same. I am leaning towards the quick process
How exciting! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!!
My company offers to cover some expenses and also gives maternity/paternity leave when you adopt. Definitely check in with your HR Dept (as others have already mentioned) to see what benefits might be available.
So exciting! I can't wait to hear when you get a baby!

luckily, a lot of family and friends have felt called to help us financially. We refinanced my wife's car and were able to extend her car for another 2.5 yrs and keeping the same payment amount at a 2.99% apr, but from that we were able to pull out $14k cash. So far people have donated about $900 and a basinet. My guess the overall cost will be around $25k so we will probably have to finance the rest. Luckily on the secondary financing we just have to survive for 1 year to get our $13k tax credit and pay it off.
Sounds scary, but luckily i just received a solid pay raise recently!
Very cool Matt! Best of luck to you guys
My parents adopted my little sister from Romania...it was crazy expensive, about 25k-30k but that included the airfare over there and hotel (I think).
I know quite a few couples un-able to have their own biological rats .... none were able to get new-borns - waited years .... (I would have thought them perfect parents too, owned a home, good jobs...) One ended up with twin girls they took in as foster rats at first ... that was 7 years ago - they are so precious.
