Hurray for non-CA, small town living! I had AC installed in a house that had none (just furnace) for $2,500.

Holy cow! What kind did you get? The new one we got for the upstairs (1.5 tons...it's a small one) was $3.9k and I thought That was a lot laugh out loud We were thinking about getting a Goodman but everyone we spoke to...even before we asked about that brand...they'd bring it up and say how horrible it was. Then I was talking to one of my friends who is moving and she said she had to replace her air conditioner because she had gotten a Goodman last time and it died within a year. (I don't know why it wasn't under warranty). So needless to say we didn't get a Goodman. We got the Carrier (that was the brand we had before...I think it's called American something or other now).

Mozez...I'm glad you got to talk to someone and that you're feeling better hug

You can get that here at SD for free anytime!

And you're less likely* to end up carved up and in someone's freezer with the SD menz!!

It's a lenox ...it gets installed in the attic...which they had to cut open a new access hole as our old one was too small to get the new unit in...CA now mandates duct pressure testing by a 3rd party...ducts tested good...so no new unit bolted onto leaky ducts...and then the AC condenser sits on a pad outside on the first floor...oh an it's also a dual zone unit...two Thermostats to a 2 zone controller board...it all adds up...

I'm trying to make bigger principal payments on it, to cut down on the interest charges.

Wow...yeah that sounds like a lot. (Though the duel zone unit sounds super cool.) They just swapped ours out and laid a new slab outside for that part to sit on because the old one was kind of crooked. I think the ground had shifted over the past 30 years and it just moved a little over time. Still took them all day though.

They also dropped a new concrete pad...but the old one was just fine...but since I was paying for it...they had damn well better give it to me...I guess it would have been nice to keep the old one for something...oh well...it's long since crumbled up I bet.

Also due to my DW's schedule...they only were working 6 hr days...so that had to factor into the labor costs...as I'm sure they figured it @ 8hr days...so I bet they had to add in an extra crew day...

It's that bad, huh? I don't doubt it!

It's one of the reasons I rarely contact any of the women here unless they initiate first, although there have been exceptions.

I'm worried Thrifteh doesn't even have a freezer!

I'll probably be left out to rot in 100+ degree heat! Down

I can't remember for sure, but I think I might have a Goodman. I know it's not a Trane or a Lennox or any of the other big names.

They charged us $75 for a new slab. The bastards laugh out loud Yeah the extra day probably added a good chunk. I think the labor cost more than the actual air conditioner. Or at least close.

Actually I'm joking. Most of the guys here are pretty cool (not Tiger). I'm actually married to an SDer (but he doesn't post in the Lounge or even in HD all that often.

Goodman is what my parents have...that's why we were looking into it. He's very happy with theirs.
