We are back from our mini trip to get the rest of the kitchen,. We got all the pieces (hopefully) we needed and even managed to save a few extra dollars getting a chipped pice from AS IS that would have cost $105 new but since you will never see the chip or scratch because it will be blocked by the side of the fridge we paid $39 instead, woot also happened upon an identical chair slipcover that I have but just poped the zipper, Its reg price is 50 but found the perfect replacement in AS IS for $4.99 Cool

Thanks everyone. My phone doesn't have reception here, so I am glad I bought my netbook! LMAO I hope that my reception issues are just in this room and not all of them! Oh well, we will figure it out! My IV is in, and we are just waiting for the dr's now!
Yay! I came back from vacay in time for baby day!

There are some GREAT coupons coming out this weekend!! I am all over that $3/2 Pantene MQ and $1.50/2 TQ!! Hope I get the TQ insert. Pray Also Venus/Olay, Right Guard (already $$ on the bay), Purex to name a few. Does anyone have info on the BOGO Hasbro coupon? Please

Need a little advice: I have been applying for jobs and have drafted what I think to be a good cover letter. I am thinking I would like to offer as an example of my strong & dedicated work ethic, the fact that I had 2 kids in law school w/o taking any time off. DH thinks I should leave it out b/c he thinks most employers would hire a single over someone who has kids with the same qualifications any day. I thought that maybe employers would rather that you already had kids on someone else's dime, instead of someone who would need maternity leave in the near future (not that that couldn't potentially happen to me Wink). Thoughts?

Found a lot (took a couple) of RIO movie peelies this morning at WM. Blu-Ray Ice Age, Night at the Museum to name a couple.
I havent tried to get a job in a long time but I do remember on a 20/20-dateline-y type thing seeing something about employers having a bias or discrimination to women with children vs men w/ kids or single people. They feel women love thier kids too much I guess and that would lead to missing work for a childs every splinter or papercut.Dontknow Plus, not all people are dedicated parents, maybe the guy hiring you has kids but they are his wife job and this is his and there is no doing both for him.

I wouldn't mention the kids ( it sucks)... but they are not allowed to ask in the interview.

Okay, it's not me this time, I'm losing my multiquotes and my mind.

whew...

My "town" was on the list and I really didn't worry about it, but then my community within the town 1 mile wide showed up on the list and then the tornado sirens went off. Went just north of my subdivision. You could actually see the churning of the clouds, but no funnel cloud. Cold

Alabama, MS and So TN are all on the hit list for today.

Mavis has her cast off and has been standing up and acting like nothing hardly happened. She does favor it slightly, but nothing like I had expected!

yeay for a good ikea trip. i love ikea! i love shopping in the marketplace and eating swedish meatballs or gravlax. it's on the other side of the highway from the airport so if we ever fly home around dinnertime i like to go eat there. almost never happens though Frown.

gator, i agree w/ dh and dazzled. first of all, your family is totally none of their business and should not be a factor at all in the hiring process, even though we know there are many unscrupulous employers that will try to get your age and family info out of you by asking inappropriate interview questions. it's discrimination and illegal but you read about it all the time.

and it will lead to other questions like if you have adequate daycare, what happens when the kids get sick, will you be as dedicated as singles and men, etc. bff has 4 kids and tries to avoid any questions as much as possible. she says she tries to gloss over it even though in reality she loves to let people know she has 2 sets of twins. so i can tell you if she doesn't want prospective employers to know about her kids, it is not good to bring it up. her last 2 jobs were thru former bosses and colleagues so they already knew about the kids. she still had to reassure them that she had adequate daycare, her mom.

i can also tell you that in reality her daycare situation is not good, her parents are not good caretakers so she has enrolled the 2 younger in full-time nursery school where they are now flourishing instead of being developmentally behind and is looking to hire somebody to supervise and go over homework w/ the older 2 until she comes home. too late in the yr to enroll them in the afterschool program. however come to think of it, even though it is a lot of p/w, i think in reality it is her best option.

I agree.. I have heard that as well.. Employers hire single people first because they are afraid those with kids will end up missing more time from work due to illness, etc..
Sad, but true.. Of course, working at the hospital I have a great boss and she always is so understanding when I need time off and tells me she "knows I have kids, and understands" so, I guess it depends on the boss, and I think females are much more understanding of things like that!

That is no easy feat! I personally think it's quite admirable - definitely something to be proud of. Applause In light of what you have already accomplished, I'd hope that any potential employer would be wise enough to recognize that you'll have no problem jumping over any hurdle they could put in front of you. Girly

While I view your ability to successfully balance these demands as an asset, I have found that some firms may disagree. They don't care to hear about your personal/family life, or the fact that your husband and children are a priority. In many cases, they are mainly interested in one thing (and one thing only) - a workhorse!

It might be better for you to narrow your focus to what you can do for them, rather than draw their attention to the fact that you are a human being laugh out loud and you have other commitments. KWIM? Either way, I definitely don't think you should discuss the possibility of future pregnancies, maternity leave, etc., because they will only view that negatively. You can cross that bridge if and when you come to it. Wink In the meantime, just don't scare them off by talking about the bridge... the bridge hasn't even been built yet! LMAO

All they need to know is that you are a hard worker and you have what it takes to succeed at this job - you are dedicated, intelligent, and you're not afraid of jumping into the shark tank! woot I wish you the best of luck! hug
