ANK, do you have a neti pot? I've never used one but have heard LOTS of people say that it works wonders for colds, congestion, sinus infections.

hug feel better sweetie!

Have you ever used the frozen kind? I have always bought fresh whole garlic and kept it in the freezer. Then, just peel off and clean the cloves as I need them. A while back I saw frozen, crushed garlic at Target on clearance and picked up a couple to try. They are in a flat plastic container that reminds me of an ice cube tray with a snap on lid. Each little frozen square equals one clove and it's minced super fine. Boy, talk about handy!

we're down to our last roll of paper towels. i'm going to need mega emotional support too. Big Grin

garlic - yes, we have the frozen kind at home and use it often. Big Grin
it's made in Israel, and Trader Joe's carries it also. very handy. and it is milder than fresh garlic.
i've never frozen cloves. i just keep the fresh garlic in a bag along with potatoes and onions. use as we need.

i use the frozen paste for things like garlic bread, or if making chicken where I don't want to taste chunks of garlic but just want it subtly flavored.

i chop/slice fresh garlic when roasting asparagus or making mashed cauliflower (stuff where you want that fresh garlic/roasted garlic taste) and i crush the garlic in a mortar pestle or in a food processor/blender when using for dips etc.

so different ways for different tastes/results.

i am such a bad influence. Evil

but here i will balance it out. for those of you doing diet stuff/trying to lose weight. i stumbled upon a cool website the other day. it's called sparkpeople.com
you can set your personal weight loss goals, keep a calorie count chart, or a food journal online, and even interact with friends/a group. it really is very cool. and it lets you pick 3 goals that you want to do everyday for a month, then pick 3 more etc. simple things like drink 8 glasses of water, walk for half hour, whatever. you pick 3 things.
i thought it was a very empowering and cool site.

Yes, I've seen mixes (my SIL uses one, as she can't make good from scratch gravy to save her life.)

I agree, as canned just sounds so wrong.
You forget we're in the midwest and not trained in down home southern cooking. We live in the land of beef.

Took No-ey (JJ's new name for Noah) to the doc today for a weepy and crusty eye. Blocked duct, not an infection. Also discussed MPSI (milk protein soy intolerance) as No-ey has been showing signs (rash, peeling scalp, gassy, diarrhea, and horrible rash just right at the exit of his bum). Doc doesn't have much experience with this 1 mild and 1 moderate case. He just our family doc, I don't have a ped for No-ey...I guess I'm old school like that. I've decided to go the elimination route and stop eating all dairy and soy...meaning all products that have these ingredients in them. I can kiss my coffeemate and favorite salad dressing goodbye...not to mention PIZZA for the next 11 mos. I'm not going to nurse No-ey while I'm eliminating and it takes 2-4 weeks for these proteins to leave my system. He'll get Alimentum and in 2 weeks I'll reintroduce breastmilk so I can see if he has a reaction. I am not at all happy with the decision that I had to make but I will not go down the same road I did with JJ. So I get the pleasure of pumping and dumping for 2-4 weeks. Sadwalk

I guess I'm just glad that I now know that soy is included as with JJ the doc just told me to cut out milk and cheese and that yogurt was probably ok. He even told me to drink soy milk, which I did for a week and sent JJ into a tizzy! Things could have turned out so much better if I was properly informed, but it is what it is.

GG - I do have a neti pot! I got one in that semi-recent freebie deal. I guess I should try it out. Cold

Thrift - what about pumping and donating? There are breastmilk banks and sometimes even hospitals take donations for babies. Call around and see - at least it wouldn't go to waste and would help another little baby!

I think some meds have finally kicked in... I'm feeling mildly better.

Also need depends, vaseline, baby lotion/wash (travel size preferred), diaper rash cream, rubbing alcohol/peroxide, and towels/washcloths are listed as high need stuff that I actually don't have stockpiled!

oh man, wish i could get peroxide to you. i have several dozen sealed bottles. got em for haiti relief, and no one could take em cos they're impossible to ship.

wags has the best deal on rubbing alcohol/peroxide bottles all the time. keep an eye out on their flyers.

baby lotion/wash - the travel size ones are generally $2 for 2 at walgreens in the baby bins and the travel bins. use the j&j 1/1 mqs that come out frequently and they're free.

towels/washcloths: the clearance endcaps at T. you'll find those 6 and 8 packs of washcloths down to 1.xx

i know what you mean about being frightened by the neti pot. i can never bring myself to get one or use it cos I hate things going in my nose. but everyone that has used it (including several SD friends say it works very well. they said hold your head cocked to the side (at an angle) and then use the pot. you want the water to go in one nostril and out the other, not to swallow it. takes a bit of trial and error, supposedly, to avoid the i'm drowning feeling.

heart i hope you feel better, love!

Nice pic Cali! Thanks for posting it for all of us to drool over.

Took 2 Motrin PM last night and boy, do I feel groggy this morning. Made some extra strong coffee and hopefully I'll be good to go.

Busy day of flea market shopping, wildlife park, and movie night w/ the boys. DH is spending the next 3 nights away. Sadwalk No shopping until at least Tuesday. It's OK b/c I am pretty much out of Qs. Again.

Thrift: hope you got some sleep. Don't they make a non-dairy coffeemate or is there something else in there you have to avoid? Comfort

MOT2: Beautiful ring! I would love some new bling!

Found some BOGO Whiskas peelies on Temptations treats. Big & purple and hard to miss. Happy b/c I was going to order some of those. Also found $2 Banana Boat hangtags. Some excluded the lip balm ($1.67) but some didn't. Got a few tubes for our vacation June 6. Also $0.50 Suave hangtags on the Professionals products to pair w/ TQ. New Method peelies. Posting here so hopefully you all can find some! Smilie

Hope everyone has a great day!
