Did mini YS yesterday after school over at FIL's - sucky $200 but it was $200 I did not have earlier, then we got up super early to get out to the FM this morning and did $600, and the money taker for the table rent said Sundays are crazy so we are going to go back out tomorrow and see what it brings.

That's NOTHING. Have you ever seen a flounder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG! Let me just tell you...The Little Mermaid is a LAIR! Flounders are NOT cute little puffy yellow fish. They are sideways half fish the float on the bottom of the ocean and have two eyes on the one side in odd places -eeek THEY are skeery! We used to live off the bay in OC MD and DH would fish out the bedroom window - literally, and crab too but he caught a flounder one day and had me come out to see it and I have NOT eaten flounder every again since! yuck. :shivers:

Wave hey bitches. I guess you all survived the end of the world. Boston is awesome, I didn't see the messages to bring my Qs but that's ok because we have tons to do while we're here. The flight was good and the kids did great. I forgot how exhausting it is to travel with kids. I'm going to need a vacation when we're done here. More later.

Been a busy week - started getting ready for a YS last weekend (takes me at least a week to prepare). On the positive side - people comment on how neat & well done my YSs are. On the negative side - you can't be sure about the weather that far off. Sure enough - it rained yesterday. So I shut down at noon. Today, no rain, but the threat seemed to scare everyone off, so I called it quits early again. I still made $1,600, so I'm happy about that. It's supposed to all go for vacay, but my desktop crashed, probably for the last time. Mad

was driven to wags. other than the doc's yday, it was my first trip outside the house in 2 months.

did ok. got tape, bounty, closys, crest, act, listerine. before coupons 108.xx. after qs 31.xx
yikes. that's the most i've paid at walgreens in more than a year. in fact i might have paid less than that in all my transactions combined at walgreens in 2010. laugh out loud

the dental was on sale, but you know the full-price paying customer kind of sale so still expensive and dentist's orders had to get it, so get it I did.
closys is normally $14 a bottle for the rinse. they had it on sale for $10 and then I had a 3/1 q making it $7. Half price for something that rarely goes on sale - I was glad. Got $12 in overage in the order.

Nice Asst Manager rang me out and complimented at the end. (i almost got stuck with one of two super horrible cashiers, but circled around the store a couple of times praying then saw AM and asked her to ring me out).

woot

hee-hee. trying to picture you freaked out by a flounder. i won't look up pictures, cos i love the taste of flounder. Stick Out Tongue

i cannot eat anything that i see in wholeness no matter how pretty it looks.
no whole lobsters for me.
no whole crabs.
no whole fish. i don't buy em whole, i don't cook em whole.
no whole shrimp.
ditto chicken, turkey etc - i do buy turkey for tgiving, but it's just a shape i associate with tgiving, not with a real bird. if i can correlate parts, i won't it, so I never do.

the business of raising chickens and then having em for dinner, or pigs, or cattle - not for me.
hunting and then taking the carcass and getting meat - not for me.

my food needs to look like food, not a creature i can hug or feed. laugh out loud

oh and can i just tell you guys - after all that brawny paper towel hoopla, i went to order and realized i had deleted the email they sent me with the coupon. CS over the phone couldn't give me another one so I am SOL - can't place the order.

blah humbug.

Wave made it after mowing for 2 hours (some in the morning, some late afternoon). I didn't finish, but I did complete everything I told myself I would finish.

woot on good garage/yard sales/flea markets. $800 and $1600 are nothing to sneeze at.

Chilling eating yogurt for supper.

you don't need to replace the whole desktop for that.

can you reformat the drive at all, or is the drive not booting up at all? if the latter is the case, you can do one of three things in declining order of difficulty:

1) get an internal hard drive, open the desktop case (the tower or slab, not the monitor), unscrew the old drive and fix the new one.

2) if you are not comfortable doing that, even easier, get an external hard drive (you can get em for 50 bucks or less these days), connect it to a different computer and install windows on it, and set it up as a bootable drive. connect that to your desktop and voila! you have a working desktop again.

3) did you happen to back up your desktop onto an external drive at any point? if so, you can just boot up from that, then while it is connected to your machine, connect a fresh external hard drive to your machine and move the stuff over so you have a backup of the backup.

easy peasy.

if you need a windows registration, there's a deal for win7 pro upgrade for 29.99. it works on a clean install.

if you set up a deal alert for "hard drive" in the hot deals forum you'll have a good one in days. just choose Daily PMs or emails, so you get a digest of all relevant new threads started that day and can act on a deal immediately.

sad he could not just meet them on his own time. better late than never?

Quote from getgreen09 :
a dear friend of mine lives just outside nyc and shops shoprite. but the girl has no patience with coupons because all she knows about qs is the stereotype of sitting hunched over the dining table cutting out 4-5 qs out of the paper to save 50 c each. Facepalm
she keeps saying she wants to learn from me. that will be an interesting teaching endeavour, since she always multiple kids in tow with her, is always multi-tasking and has a major case of mommy brain. oy!

good place to get mambo books - All co-op advantage stores (it's a national coalition of co-ops) get a mambo book. They call it the Co-op Advantage book. There's one in Brooklyn's Flatbush Neighborhood called, what else, The Flatbush Food Coop [flatbushfoodcoop.com]

Also, there are 3 other coops in the NYC area [flatbushfoodcoop.com] (one in Brooklyn, one in Manhattan, one in Pine Bush). These may have a version of the Mambo book also, but I'm not 100% sure, cos I don't they belong to a larger group of co-ops, and Mambo seems to work with large groups.

In addition there are some other stores that have em, but I don't know if they are branded as store qs or not, like WF does.
Wild by Nature stores
[wildnature.com]

Fairway Market carries them. [fairwaymarket.com]

Mrs. Greens Stores carries them.
[mrsgreens.com]

If you'd like to find more stores in your area, go to the mambo sprouts website, and on the top right click on 'Find Coupons' then enter your zip code and the radius you're searching. And you should find a list of stores sorted by distance.
i went to the mambo sprouts website and practically all the locations in 25 miles are shoprites Embarrassment. the other is a chain of healthfood stores i've never heard of b4 and a little too out of the way considering i have whole foods, trader joe and whole earth center within 10 miles or so on major roads.

good thing i asked bff to get me 4 more lemonades. my cashier decided to have my coupons checked over so the supervisor spread the 4 santa cruz q's and the 4 food should taste good q's out on the belt and gave proceeded to examine them under a microscope. he pointed out the offer number was the same on all 4 food should taste good q's. i said ok i'll return 3 and use 1, he said he couldn't take any. he showed the lemonade q's to another person who asked me where i got them, i said internet, she said they couldn't take them b/c the internet info wasn't on them. so i had them void 4 bags of chips and 4 bottles of lemonade. i just don't buy enough stuff for shenanigans. bff was able to get 4 lemonade q's thru.

when i was finally all done, the lady behind me started kvetching that her ice cream was melting.

i really, really wanted those chips to go w/ the artichoke hummus i need to eat. i contemplated driving to another shoprite after target but w/ gas at 4.00/gal i wasn't saving any money and it was getting late. luckily i got 2 rainchecks so i should be able to get some chips eventually Sly

i wish all these companies would just use coupons.com, smartsource or ecentive instead of pdf's. actually not even smartsource b/c some shoprites won't take them b/c they don't say smartsource.com anymore.

next time i hear the mambo sprout q booklet comes out i'm gonna really make more effort to get it. don't have problems getting those q's accepted.

i think up by your friend the shoprites only double q's to 1.00 value. in other words, if you had a .75 or .99 mq, it would only double up to the most 1.00 in value. not sure if they do 3 or 4 like q's.

further outside of new york many double up to 4 like coupons worth up to .99 but not always the case. at sil's house in the poconos it's 3 like q's up to 1.00 value.

you should tell your friend that the average value of q's is over 1.00 so you can really get a lot of bang for your buck. and even if her stores only double equal to 1.00, esp if she has kids it can really rack up. for instance, starting tomorrow ballpark hotdogs are 1.69, angus are 1.99 and somebody figured out how to get a .75q from a banner ad. i already printed my 4 q's and will be getting 4 packs of angus hotdogs for .49 each, regular hotdogs would be .19/pk. peter pan peanut butter will be as cheap as .50.

the shoprite thread here is one of the most active since the mod over at hcw got a full time job. many of the people at hcw have since come over to sd. every wk the coupon matchups are placed in the wiki usually b4 friday for the following wk that starts on sunday.
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=193803&t=855205

the ad is also available on the website the friday b4 and i get it delivered in the mail on fridays. this gives time to order q's if you go to the store multiple times per wk. otherwise it may not be worth it to order q's since they may only take 3 or 4 at a time. i do not order q's. she could just buy multiples of the cheaper local newspaper for around 1.25 but you don't get all the q's. i think the best paper up there would either be the bergen record or the star ledger. i think it's around 2.00 -2.50. i subscribe when i can get around 1.00 delivered.

your friend may also want to try lrwc, living rich with coupons dot com. that is also a popular blog for shoprite, however, eventually the stuff usually makes it over here.
http://www.livingrichwithcoupons....2-528.html

many shoprite's have baysitting services up to 1.5hrs for kids 3- 8 yrs old. it's called scrunchy's playhouse. your friend could shop in peace, esp if she takes them to the bathroom b4 she checks them in. nothing like getting paged to take your kid to the bathroom.

laugh out loud. i still remember when my college roommate ordered lobster and it came out whole. she said how do you eat it? at home in california it comes out in pieces. we all, at least a dozen of us east coast people, looked at her like she was crazy. we'd never heard of lobster served already cracked for you.

california's version of foods can be strange. i went to visit her at home during spring break one yr and she took me to a restaurant in carmel by the sea and ordered clam chowder for us. i was like where is the potatoes and clams? they'd put it thru a blender and it was like a white bisque.

same trip in laguna beach they put pineapple in the cole slawshake head.

Applause

got to do it once or twice in your life for the experience.

in college i spent several breaks in maine. got fresh lobsters off the dock, still crawling around, cooked em in hissing pots (i closed my ears).
ate with butter.
i'm just too squeamish now. if i see them moving around and their eyes looking at me, and their tentacles moving, no way am i going to be able to put that creature into a pot of hot water. Embarrassment
i'm a loser, i know.
so lobster tails it is for me. there's a great lobster market in maine that ships overnight. Big Grin

i'm so sorry to hear that hon.
my sincerest condolences to your DH and his family.

has this Rapturous moment come and gone? I'm so confused cos I'm still here and I'd like a drink or two or five in that case. Don't want to be interrupted when drinking my fab fruit wine handpicked from a vineyard last year.

Yes, i should head to that diet group. I will.
My plan this weekend is to also start keeping a serious food journal at sparkpeople
Thing is I'm not eating unhealthy stuff and really not eating huge portions. Breakfast is generally egg whites scrambled, or hard boiled eggs or some such or oatmeal with flax/blueberries or sometimes a banana and coconut water.
lunch is usually some fruit, or a salad.
dinner is lean protein with veggies and some whole grains (brown rice, couscous, quinoa, or 100% whole wheat pasta) or sometimes a bean soup, nutritious stuff like that, and more salad.
i don't eat huge portions either. Snacks in between are things like some cheese, or some crackers or celery/carrots. occasional pc of chocolate. occasional pc of whole wheat bread in a day.

i rarely eat fried food - maybe 6 times a year.
i don't east fast food - ever.
i don't drink soda.
i hardly consume salt or sugar. i rarely eat white bread, and almost never pasta - when i eat bread it's almost always whole grain.
i cook with olive oil as much as possible.

but this sedentariness is what's really getting me. i have to eat to keep my metabolism going and also as coating for the enormous quantity of ibuprofen i am consuming every day. sucks.

drama: wags thread last night. courtesy of a Fan who never returned to post a reply after bunnies, I and MsGal said our pieces. Wink

shoprite, thanks for the great info! this will help me learn shoprite and study its deals so then i can get her to do it. and i will get her into it. she's in the process of house moving so I'm not even bothering right now till that is done. but once that happens, i will have to teach her coupon basics first. oy! and then likely go on a few shoprite trips with her to show her the ropes before she can do it on her own.
but she's a sister. so no sweat. i'd do anything for her, anything.

my other friend (the one in NYC) - haven't talked to her in a bit. she's still going through hard times I think. Have it on my list to write to her tomorrow.

you know the things, when you want to support people emotionally and help people and advise them, etc, it's a really good feeling when you can. but sometimes the process also takes a lot out of you - you know just listening and writing etc. i'm so drained these with all these stupid injury pains and heartburn and cough and fever, that sometimes i look and think, ahhh, i don't feel like writing out a long email right now. kwim? i feel terrible about that. working on being a better friend.

p.s. next time I step out, I will ask to swing by the coop store and see if I can get some Sprouts books for you.

Just packaged up some coupons and a Corona flip flop bottle opener/magnet for tootsie! It's going out in Monday's mail.

slowtech - I had coleslaw at a local restaurant and it tasted like there were bits of pineapple in it. It was really good, they had the proportion right.

Got a $10 gift card from Bonefish Grill in the mail today, for our anniversary! I guess they send them out once a month, so we'll just have to go back for happy hour soon.

Got a new patio table and chairs today, DH and DS are in garage doing the assembly now. Hope nothing is missing. It's amazing how much stuff you have to partially assemble nowadays.
