Silky Thanks so much!! I will let you know for sure which way we are headed.... I think I need to make the trip at least worth my while heehee!!
as far as organics, I WISH we had Trader Joes or even decently priced organic produce. At Publix for example, a bag of organic apples is usually 3x the price of a regular bag
Meeshe good luck on the house hunt. It's soooo frustrating!!!!
We DID see FOO last weekend and it was INCREDIBLE! Hangout Festival had 35,000 attendees. Huge ass festival but we were close enough, I could see Dave's teeth
My grammy isn't doing so well. I've been at the hospital for the past two days. The damage in her back was more extensive than the surgeon expected and there is a lot of nerve damage as well as extensive repair work now

are you tempted to buy the ipad2

on a positive note, I'm in LOVE with the Calypso line at Target. It's my new happy place

I like the iPad, no desire for the 2. I just miss my laptop.
Well... DH and I had planned to go do some stuff for our anniversary today but he called me right before lunch time and said to pick him up and take him to the docs. Turns out he's got a bacterial infection of some sort. Blah. Doc gave him antibiotics and he's been miserable all day.
Zucchini and Summer Squash with Thyme & Feta
Chickpeas and fresh veggies in a buttermilk dressing
Baked Lemon Sole
All new recipes. All keepers. They were a hit.
Did you say anything to that lady? Did you tell her...yeah look at me..hit by a car in December..
I'm sorry that she said that to you and I'm sorry your sister didn't stand up for you. I sure would have!
How rude of a stranger and how cruel of your sister...
And that lady hurriedly steered her grandson away (I guess after she saw my face). I mean she literally half ran right after saying that to me. Guess she must've realized that she was about to be verbally smacked!
Sis looked at the expression on my face and knew I didn't want to be addressed at that moment. I walked away. So she quietly followed behind me. She's my twin and instinctively knew that there was nothing she could say to me to make me feel better, so she said nothing to me for a while. Which is just as well.
It has been a sore topic with me for months now, and one of great hurt all our lives cos I was always the taller, bigger sister. Too much history.
And no bunnies, I said nothing to that lady. Nothing to my family. Nothing to anyone but you guys. As anyone on this board that has battled their weight knows, the world throws many hurtful things at you and judges you constantly as being less - less intelligent, less capable, less industrious, less interesting/engaging/funny, just a lesser human being. And the hurts just pile up within you as words remembered. That's what this was. I'll go back to my normal body once I'm able. I know that. It just hurts right now. There's nothing to be said, cos how many mouths can you shut up? All you can do is be who you are, and believe in yourself.
DH is home today and we are going to visit my grandpa. Turns out his prostate cancer is on the aggressive side. They are running some studies to see his best course of action but most likely it will have to be radiated. Thanks for all your support
really sorry to hear the latest on granpa. sending him strength and prayers.
be on the lookout for qs/deals on biotene mouthwash. is very helpful for dry mouth after oncological treatment.
For the record not everyone in Boston talks that way. It's certain neighborhoods. Others have the "Boston Brahmin" accent - super crisp, proper English. Kind of like NYC, where different boroughs have different accents.
Bunnies, you grew up in Boston? which part?
kay- pls have a safe journey, relax and enjoy yourself. and bring home lots and lots of goodies! when i went i got lots of tea, gorgeous cushion covers, underwear, beautiful gift check envelopes, ayurvedic creams, etc. so cheap! too bad the price of gold is so high now.

organics: that totally blows.
no WF near you either? they have some great produce prices on organics cos they sell in such great quantities. for example huge bunches of fresh organic herbs are 1.49-1.99 there, in contrast to the little plastic boxes that you find at grocery stores for 3-4 bucks. organic cukes are just 15-20 c more than regular. organic bananas are 99c a pound. everything is a nominal difference, so that across 10-15 things you'd end up paying maybe 5-7 bucks more or so each trip. we just cut back on eating out etc, cos that investment is totally worth it in terms of our health.
another thought: do you have any co-op stores near you? they all have organic produce and you may find decent prices. what about CSA's? are there any you can join if you are interested in getting organic produce at a decent price?
Just a little brag - my 7th grader scored a 24 on the ACT (hence the awards ceremony).

i don't remember where you are, but you should check out the major supermarket chains around you. these days you can check the ad online for prices. my supermarket, shoprite (ct to md) can be competitive w/ trader joes. last wk i got organic strawberries for 2.49. that was the lowest, normally when it goes on sale it's 2.99. i just have to figure out their truck days for organics cuz it's good when it first comes in, but other days you can tell it's past it's prime.
we have another more upscale supermarket similar to whole foods called wegmans which can also be competitive w/ whole foods and they have an extensive selection of organic. they make an effort to buy local so their produce can be fresher and have more vitamins and minerals. couple yrs ago i got a cauliflower the size of a basketball. when i cut it up it was equivalent to 4 heads of cauliflower. the price was the same as one normal head too. i knew it was local, not trucked all the way from fl or ca, cuz i got one from the farmers market the wk b4, same size.

I wish my sis had said something, but her face looked like the human version of this icon:

India is known for its underwear?
i need to go find spanish paprika, hot and sweet next wk for the blackened maple shrimp. there is a large independent natural/organic grocer about 10-15 minutes away that sells spices by weight, as much or as little as you want. i hope they have it there. wonder how the shrimp would be on skewers?
sorry that lady was so horribly rude. you would think at her age, she would have been of the generation that believed *if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.* just goes to show it's not just the younger people who don't watch what they say.
after this wknd, come hang out w/ us in the diet support group. losing weight is not a requirement. i don't think i've lost more than 4lbs in 8months. you can just post all the deliciously healthy food you eat and make the rest of us jealous. esp when we've been bad like i'm sure this wknd is going to be.
as for underwear, late 2005 i went to bangalore, india w/ dh who went for work. very interesting trip. i found pretty patterned jockey underwear in a dept store there, very cheap. they were different from the jockey underwear here, i don't know whether it was licensed or knockoffs. the sizing was different though. the saleswomen couldn't really help so i guesstimated. thank goodness i got the large instead of medium. indian cotton is inexpensive so maybe that's why the underwear was cheap.
