Funny you should ask (and not funny ha-ha).

The short answer is no, we're not doing anything. Here's the long answer...

About 6 months ago we decided we wanted to go to Vegas the weekend of the 25th (because that weekend before is Father's Day). Well, DH decided and I said that I didn't care. So MIL said she could watch the kids. Then a few weeks later MIL said could she watch the kids at her house instead of ours (side note: they have a sunken living room that goes down to tile and every time we're there DD almost kills herself taking a nose dive off the step). So I call my mom and she said she and my stepdad would come in and watch the kids. Then a few weeks later MIL says nevermind that niece that was going to come and stay with her then isn't going to come after all so she can watch them at our house. So I call my mom, tell her not to worry about taking the time off.

So in the mean time... our house sells, we move into the apt, begin construction on the new house... so DH and I decided now was not the time to blow a ton of money on a big trip, but that we'll take a few days and go somewhere close. Well, a few weeks ago MIL tells us that SIL is sending her 3 kids to visit for pretty much the entire summer and that the only weekend she can watch our kids 4th of July weekend. WTF? DH and I are both totally pissed. I know that 4th of July is going to be either totally booked or super expensive AND I kind of like being in town to do stuff with my kids.

I'm pissed at SIL but more so at MIL because she is such an enabler. I'm totally pissed because I had already told my mom not to bother with the time off. I was so farking upset a few weeks ago I could barely even speak to DH. It's just a matter of time before there is a big blow up about this and I almost can't wait for it to happen. SIL pulls this type of crap all. the. time. I predict I'll be telling off at least 2 family members before June is over.
hughug So sorry!! Your SIL sounds just like my SIL.. errrrrrrrrrrr Before my MIL used to watch a couple of our kids... and if my SIL wanted to drop off her kids... my MIL would call us up and tell us we had to come now to pick them up as she has other plans... mind you we live 1 1/2 hours away from her... whatever!! So sorry!! hughug

Grams is doing sooooo much better. The trick: taking her off the morphine pump. Apparently she is allergic to it. No wonder she's been off the wall and heading downhill for days Doh At least we figured it out. She actually called me today (this is huge...she thought she was eating a pork chop yesterday and there was no food in sight EEK!) and was normal. What a relief. She said her pain is totally manageable too and better than before the surgery. *sigh*

Wave I have been trying to keep up *reading* with you all but have had so little time to meaningfully post Frown

Just very busy, good busy. Which means when I get on the computer to catch up on stuff I just have so little time and can't get it all done! Ack.

M2C....ugh, that stinks!!! I am sorry Frown hug What is it with in-laws? I really do love mine, they are all *nice* people and for the most part we get along (they have not done something like THAT to me.) Although, I have had them commit to things long term and then fail to tell me that until last-minute (if that) that they are unable to fulfill that commitment..which I totally understand sometimes but WHY the last minute? Both sets of my in-laws see no need to plan much in advance although dh's mom has gotten way better. Dh's dad's side would call you 2 days before a family event and then expect that you had nothing going on and would be there. Ummmm no. And of course dh doesn't understand why that doesn't work when you have a job and children and other things to plan around, etc. To top things off they have occasionally communicated with dh behind my back about why we can't be at things a lot of the time (Confused hello, because we have no advanced notice - half the time dh can't get the days off even!) and then this turns into a fight between dh and I because he feels pulled in two directions. Holidays have typically ended up one big disaster. Last year was a bit better and I'm hopeful that they're starting to get it Annoyed

Coupon Fairy left some nice Qs at Wal-Mart. 14 $3 Fixodent which pm to Dollar General for $.50 overage each and 13 Gillette ProGlide $4. I have 3 of the Fixodent left to use tonight and have 4 Gillette ProGlide that I will not be able to use. All expire today.

I think I saw this Coupon Fairy yesterday at WM. She had the biggest binder I have ever seen. Must has been 2' thick!

My sister is going to watch the kids on the 16th so we can go to dinner. I'm sure MIL is going to call up and see if we need her for that night and I can't wait to be all "oh, nevermind". But that's just because I'm an evil-passive-aggressive-bitch.

I'm a BIG planner which is why I was so pissed about this. I mean we picked that weekend 6 damn months ago. Oh well. I'm over it. I am going to be a total witch on fb though if SIL starts posting about how the kids are gone for the whole summer.

Do you freeze the asparagus for winter? I did a bunch for DH last year. I just cut the hard end off, washed it, let it dry, then put it on a cookie sheet and froze it. Once they were frozen I stuck them in a gallon baggie. Tried something a little different with it this last time. Cooked it in a little butter, salt, pepper in the microwave then laid it on a cookie sheet and sprinkled Parmesan cheese on it then toasted it in the oven til it was lightly brown.

I need to get another fan to just circulate air, that seems to really help.
Since you live in Wisconsin, I'm guessing you have a furnace with duct work. Turn your fan on constant. It will circulate the air around your house. If your furnace is in the basement it draws it's air from there and it's cooler so that also helps.

Grits isn't cornmeal mush. Cornmeal comes from corn. Grits is made from hominy. The taste is very different.

That's crazy! Its my anniversary too! It will be 5 years for us! Are you guys doing anything special? We were planning a trip to Japan (tentatively) but then last year we decided that having a baby seemed like a better plan (I have always said I would be done having kids by 30), so that is not happening now. I was thinking about doing a B&B on the beach, but IDK. The girls and I are leaving for Mt 4 days later, so I know it won't be but a weekend celebration. Dontknow

I stopped watching this season (I have been watching from the beginning) but have DVR'd them all. Maybe I should watch them bc this sounds like it got interesting again!
I was all ready to join the party for June 16 until I suddenly remembered my anniversary is june 14. Rofl2 I *always* get that mixed up. Hubby does a much better job at remembering our anniversary - last year, I completely forgot, even up until the very day of. shake head

And M2C, that is such a bummer. I am so glad none of my in-laws live near us. My family lives in town and thankfully, hubby gets along superbly with all of them. But his family, on the other hand, well, they're just different. I love them all individually, but I don't think we would do well living closer than we do.

I cannot wait until this Saturday is over. Its my last sale before we start traveling, and I am trying to get all kinds of shopping in to maximize my profits. Color me exhausted. I am so sick of coupons right now...

Holy shitake mushrooms, this just make me almost piss myself I was laughing so hard.

Ok, I'll put you guys out of your misery... he made a beet. For farking real. They made stone soup at his school a while back and everyone had to take in a vegetable. Well, we picked a beet up from the store because I thought no one else would pick it. So evidently he loved it. We're growing some in a pot right now and when I asked him what favorite food he was going to make he said a beet. Weirdo.
You don't ever want to hang out with my sister without wearing Depends. Her sense of humor is wicked crazy. Roll

We heart beets! Dad has always grown them in his garden. Got Becca hooked on them early on. I'm pretty sure if I gave them to JJ he'd just smash them in his hair and I'd have a purple haired Spider monkey.

No-ey had a nice long 6 hour stretch last night and is doing pretty good right now. When he finally woke to eat, I was pretty dern full and begged him to eat up.

there is corn grits and hominy grits.

Grits is a food of Native American origin that is common in the Southern United States, mainly used in breakfast. It consists of coarsely ground corn (when grits are made from hominy, it is referred to as hominy grits). It is sometimes called sofkee or sofkey from the Creek word.[1][2] The name 'grits' is most likely to have derived from the German term "Grütze", which in turn derived from the Italian term "Gruzzi", meaning crushed (or coarsely ground) corn.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grits

this company, falls mill, makes corn grits and doesn't make hominy grits.
http://www.grits.com/discript.htm

hominy is corn soaked in lye water to remove the bran/hull.
http://www.foodsubs.com/GrainCorn.html

quaker grits also came up. the original and quick grits are made from white hominy grits made from corn. all the flavored ones are made w/ corn grits.

yummy That asparagus sounds delicious! I'll have to try that out. I usually don't add anything to it - which could be why my 3year old says she doesn't like asparagus anymore. hehe!
We've been blanching and freezing them in vacuum freezer bags. I really should take a bag out and try it. A couple years back we had some corn and beans that we must not have preserved properly and tasted nasty - we ended up throwing several bags out Frown

We are in Wisconsin, but heat by radiators. Growing up, the house we lived in had duct work and we left the furnace fan running - it really did help.

Anyone have experience with those tall 'tower' fans? I'm thinking that might be the way to go. Stick it in a corner to circulate air 'around' our first floor?
