Reporting in, or LOL kitty made me sad #########Just got home from the ER - post 62######### (((((new photo post 83)))))

Some of you may remember this thread from two years ago. Well, he got me again. This time he got my finger on the other hand. I was getting knots out of his fur when he clamped down on the finger (the one you use to tell people they're number one laugh out loud) and when he tried to release and turned his head to jump down, his teeth were stuck in my finger, he couldn't let go. But since he turned his head, he wound up tearing the puncture wounds open even more. Sick

The top joint of my finger is red and swollen. However, I don't see how it could be infected this time, as by tearing the flesh sideways, he made the puncture wounds larger and they bled profusely for about 10 minutes. I applied tons of Bactine spray and then Neosporin to it as well. This happened about six hours ago and so far, the swelling and redness is limited to that top finger joint. So should I go to the after hours clinic or do you think it will be ok?

You might try some hydrogen peroxide. It helps with puncture wounds. Follow that with an antibiotic cream and a band aid. I get puncture wounds from working with my roses and berry bushes...and occasionally when Nagin's ass twitches Wink

what kind of crazy ass kitty-virus do you think you have contracted?

H2O2 + Neosporin + Band Aid like thearteest said. If it is still red and swollen in a few days go to the doc and get some antibiotics, or just rub some dirt on it.

Stupid cats. You'll be fine. I got cat scratch fever once and it only lasted 24 hours. You're probably just allergic to cats, but being around them all the time has made you somewhat immune. However, if the cat somehow interacts with your blood, you start having an allergic reaction. It happens to me all the time when DW's cat picks a fight with me. I no longer have an allergic reaction to him (sinuses, headache, etc.), but if he interacts with my blood through a scratch or a bite, I will get sick with swelling or a fever or something.

Don't know why I didn't think to use hydrogen peroxide on it. That would have worked better than the Bactine. Doh

He's a very sweet cat and never bit me until he started getting old and cranky and then only when I try to groom him. He's 17 now and isn't able to keep up his grooming so he gets big knots in his long fur.

Cat's have tons of nasty bacteria in their mouths. It's not a problem for humans until they bit you and pierce the skin as a puncture wound is very hard to clean. Did you see the photos from the other thread? When he bit me a couple of years ago, my hand swelled up in less than five hours and got even worse after that photo.

Scratchchin That could be part of it. It's only red and swollen on the area around the bite. The rest of the finger is fine,
