Reporting in, or LOL kitty made me sad #########Just got home from the ER - post 62######### (((((new photo post 83)))))

Some of you may remember this thread from two years ago. Well, he got me again. This time he got my finger on the other hand. I was getting knots out of his fur when he clamped down on the finger (the one you use to tell people they're number one laugh out loud) and when he tried to release and turned his head to jump down, his teeth were stuck in my finger, he couldn't let go. But since he turned his head, he wound up tearing the puncture wounds open even more. Sick

The top joint of my finger is red and swollen. However, I don't see how it could be infected this time, as by tearing the flesh sideways, he made the puncture wounds larger and they bled profusely for about 10 minutes. I applied tons of Bactine spray and then Neosporin to it as well. This happened about six hours ago and so far, the swelling and redness is limited to that top finger joint. So should I go to the after hours clinic or do you think it will be ok?

I came here looking for an update, saw the picture and literally said "holy shit" out loud. Please take care dearest ZM hug

My cat has bitten me and it has drawn blood but has never, ever gotten infected, and sometimes when she scratches me I don't wash my hands after Hide

Is there any reason why it gets infected?

Cat scratch disease is a disease caused by bartonella bacteria. It is believed to be transmitted by cat scratches and bites, or exposure to cat saliva.

Whee I'm so glad to hear that. After TR's toe pic and Autumn's scabby stomach pic, I wasn't sure my dissected finger was up to par.

FTR, Vicodin and flexeril taken together is an interesting combination. Whee

I feel coherent yet spacy all at the same time. Didn't plan on this but while giving the female cat her medicine, I managed to bang my finger pretty good and it started hurting like heck, about a six on the pain scale. I'd already taken the flexeril (for sleeping) but didn't have any choice other than to take the Vicodin and wait for it to kick in so I can fall asleep. Yawn Bye Night y'all.

FYI, it took about five minutes to type this, cause I'm so spacy right now. laugh out loud

Couldn't you just shave the tangles off rather than risk certain death?

It's going to be pretty difficult to play with your cat with a finger like that.... ;-)

Found out the hand surgeon isn't on our insurance plan so didn't make an appointment. I really don't think I need to go as it seems to be healing ok. I think the ER doc was concerned about possible nerve damage but it's fine. I have full sensation in the finger and can straighten it out fully and bend all of the joints now that the swelling has gone down.

I asked the vet about that. She's concerned that he might get nicked when I try to shave or cut the tangles out. Yeah, heaven forbid the cat gets an infection! Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Since he's so old and has health problems, I wouldn't want to risk it. I'm going to try putting one of those cones on his head, the type the vet uses when they don't want a pet to bite out stitches. Maybe then I can keep away from his teeth. I swear he's part langolier [google.com]. laugh out loud

Don't forget to get us the pictures of kitteh tearing off a different finger, while you are trying to put the cone on him! LMAO

My cat loves to be petted. That is, unless of course you actually TOUCH her while doing it, and then it's: LOOK OUT! razor claws of DEATH!

woot I'm glad it's starting to feel better (awesome pic btw) and that hopefully you won't have to deal with a hand surgeon. That would be a pain (no pun intended mlv). And yeah wtf the vet is worried the cat might get nicked if you tried to shave him? Geesh give him to her and have him brush him then...see how quick until she was sure that shaving him is the best idea, lol.
