Apparently 1 in 3 Americans want a device that hasn't been announced yet. I don't recall that poll, but I'm willing to perform due diligence and start one in the Lounge.

Do you want one?

laugh out loud
Do you plan on buying the next iPhone (4S/4GS/5/etc) within the next year?
Be advised that this is a public poll: other users can see the choice(s) you selected.

i'd take my Droid Pro (and a few other select Android phones) over an iPhone. but at this point, it's really down to personal choice.

with the latest versions of Android, the normal "Apple is so much easier to use" is a dated argument: my grandmother figured out her Droid X after a ten-minute session with the Verizon salesman. i've experienced bugs with my Pro (especially at launch), but my buddy had his share of problems when he bought an iPhone4 at launch and my wife has had a few since she got hers a few weeks ago. neither platform is completely bug-free if you actually use it like a smartphone.
For some people, even 1 bug is a complete turn off..."I hate these stupid things why were they ever made!!!" Those people can not use 75% of all Androids so it makes shopping much more difficult to tell them "Get models X 2 but NOT X 1!" Where you can just say "Get an iPhone" and they won't have any issues with bugs or selecting a phone.

I will admit there are some Androids out there that work very well...they just so happen to all go by the name "Droid" also, haha.

Quote from Kabn :
WM7 is an interesting OS, no doubt. our MS rep here at work has been basically giving us phones to get us to switch, and they're awesome for business phones for MS shops. they are not great consumer devices, mainly because only a small number of developers release apps for the WM platform. if WM had the developer base of Android, i'd definitely take a look, but as it stands, iOS and Android are the only platforms with real app selection, the major draw of a smartphone.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I'll correct you and the WM7...Windows Mobile is dead...it is hated by the masses and MS has made the change on purpose, haha.

I think the App thing is a complete misnomer. Give me a function that you do on your Android and I will tell the exact same or equivalent app we have on WP7. The Marketplace has grown I think 3x faster than iPhones and 2x faster than Android (those figures change constantly though, but in any case it is right where you would expect it to be).

The only difference is that we have Angry Birds and 2 other knock offs while Android has Angry Birds and 10 other knock offs. hahaha

Quote from Kabn :
in my mind, it comes down to balancing your desires for flexibility of the OS, app selection, coolness factor, interoperability with employer services, and network speed. my wife cares more about having a nice camera than having the ability to install apps from the Amazon app store, so she got an iPhone, and that's fine. i care more about my phone working seamlessly with Google products than having a cool-looking phone, so i got a Droid Pro, and that's fine.
That is really what it all boils down to, but I will say if you wanted a nice camera and were willing to spend $200 extra...I bought a 14MP w/ 14x Zoom for $200 and my 5MP Phone (same as iPhone) for free, haha

I want the iPod Touch that doesn't exist yet....... Sorta.

I want to buy an iPod Touch, but a couple articles I read say there may or may not be one released in the fall... So I kinda want to wait and see, and at the same time, I want to go ahead and buy the one that is out right now.

As for phones... I just want one with a good alarm and a good amount of ring tones to choose from to set up for my alarms. Dontknow I'm not into the fancy phones.

Yea...the Two Years is getting old, but meh...Dontknow

I read that the average cost of Smart Phones to carriers was $400 4 years ago and currently sits at $200. By this time next year it should be $100-$150.

I find that awesome to think about because the carriers still charge $200 for a new phone with a 2 year contract because everyone is willing to pay it.

Refer to earlier comments re: repeated disappointments in Microsoft implementation. I'm sure its made great strides, but I'm content with my I can have it now 95% solution.

I just heart how competition is driving functionality. Win-win for consumers! Rock
I agree...right now I am living on hopes and dreams of the upcoming update...my Sister is up to renew and she trusts me enough that I could have pushed her into the WP7 boat already very easily but I haven't because it just isn't there yet. It is great, and stick by my 80% of the iPhone greatness at 0% of the cost...but with a 2 year commitment the cost savings isn't always worth that 20% loss...I think with the update it will be better AND cost less. But we wait. :twiddle:

Have another iSheep report, haha (I believe these numbers were taken from something you may have read)

48% of users prefer the iOS operating system.
19% of users preferred the Android OS, suggesting other factors like price and availability led to the market share of the Google OS.
7% of consumers preferred Windows Phone, a number might translate into market share, given that Windows Phones are price competitive with Android handsets and available on all US carriers. Currently Windows phone 7 US market share is around 1% only.
6% of user preferred Blackberries

[But where are the other 19%??? under "none"?]

Carriers do not get the iPhone at a discounted price. They subsidize the price for the consumer when you sign the commitment.

They may get other smart phones cheaper than the public but Apple doesn't do this for the carriers.

I was not saying the Carriers got anything for cheaper. I know the high profile phones (iPhone, Droid Whatever) do not cost $200 to the carrier but they aren't costing $600 like they'd lead you to believe with the "Non-Contract" price.

I was getting at the fact that currently, you drop $200 WITH a contract/subsidized...What that meant was, in a year, you will be able to get away with $100 for the almost top phone w/o a contract.

Which is why Verizon didn't get the iPhone in the first place - they demanded a discount and Apple didn't blink.

Carriers pay $649 for the base iPhone4. That is the price that Apple sells unlocked iPhones to the public for. Apple will not give any carriers a discount.

Nor should they. Apple was correct to demand full price for their products. They hold all the chips in this game. The customer base is behind them.

Yea, someone made the comment that Major Nelson (Larry Herb) who is the lead of the Xbox 360 Community (The man that all Xbox Fanbois look to for information) doesn't have a Windows Phone 7, hahaha. No idea if he is on WM, Android, iOS though.

But, the reason they were all using iPhones is because they were still stuck in a contract and couldn't get the WP7 yet, and who can blame them for ditching WM earlier for an iPhone? haha

As per article

Quote from Curtieson :
Despite Mr. Ballmer's theatrics, iPhone users are in plain sight at Microsoft. At the sprawling campus here in a Seattle suburb, workers peck away on their iPhone touch-screens in conference rooms, cafeterias and lobbies. Among the top Microsoft executives who use the iPhone is J Allard, who helped create the Xbox game console and is chief experience officer for the entertainment and devices division.
.
.
.
Nearly 10,000 iPhone users were accessing the Microsoft employee email system last year, say two people who heard the estimates from senior Microsoft executives. That figure equals about 10% of the company's global work force.
For what its worth, you can't connect personal iPhones to company networks in most cases (as per security policy). (At least at larger corporations I have worked for - that includes military and Federal installations)

4S will be later this year and 5 will be next year.

You are probably better off waiting for the 5...unless you really really really want one now. (lot's of really's Whee). Your contract will be locked in on an off year if you buy one this year.
