Good morning to everyone!
Quick! Take a picture. The wind is NOT blowing in northern Iowa. The neighbor's flag is just hanging there, not even moving. Should I be skeered?
Good morning to everyone!
My sink is under another identical set of windows on the adjacent wall.

Love your new stove. What's it cooking today?

I don't know what it's cooking today,

Yes, and I have no idea why I was up at 6:30.
you will be coming at a very nice time of yr. not too hot, not too cold and doesn't rain that much. hopefully fall foliage will be in full force. usually a little after columbus day b/c the city retains more heat than outside. so a very nice place to go would be central park. you can google central park fall foliage to see enhanced pictures. i've read fall is the time we get the most europeans b/c they do not have fall foliage as colorful as we do.
another place i would definitely recommend would be the empire state building at sunset. on a good day it can be very romantic actually.
let me know what you are interested in and i can give you recommendations.
i will also help you w/ transportation. the best way to get around the city quickly and efficiently is the subway, but it can be overwhelming in the beginning. and there's lots of little things that only natives would know. for instance, at subway entrances on the street, look for ones w/ green globes on posts. means that entrance is open 24/7.
this is a good primer-

taking a taxi is usually only good for short distances. too expensive to go far and may not be any faster than taking the subway. catching a taxi around 4pm is usually rather difficult b/c that is during the shift change and many are on their way home outside of manhattan so they'll only take you if it's on the way. it's almost impossible to catch a taxi when it's raining.
and be prepared to walk, walk, walk, so wear comfortable shoes and/or sneakers. new yorkers don't need to diet as much b/c they get a lot of exercise every day.
very nice. fits perfectly under the window sill as if you'd planned it. i've never seen a stove under a window. usually it's the sink.
welcome back! i hate having to catch up when i've been away.
i think you should post what you are looking for on fb more often
hey! you've never heard of christmas in july???
I love reading all your tips about NYC. Its one of my favorite places to visit. I will say, though, depending on where you're at in the city, and where the nearest subway station is at, it can be quicker to take a taxi, and sometimes cheaper, esp if you squeeze several bodies into one cab.
Finishing up my first mug of coffee and headed to make a second one. I am finally getting over my hideous head cold I brought home from camp. Feel somewhat normal, so I may try heading out to T and try a little run. Gotta pick up some ink, anyway! Any of the TQs I should try out?

The chicken in a biscuit is good. I know it's a silly thing, but I was sooo excited to be able to bake both muffin pans at the same time last night. DH has been teasing me about the stove so he last said he said, "so, how did it work? how much less time did it take". I told him half the time... he looked a little startled. Then I told him because I could bake both at once,
I need to test the delay start and timed bake features to make sure they work. I have no reason to think they won't, just figure when you get something new you should test everything just in case. Technically, I did the timed bake. When I ran it empty the first time, I set it for 45 minutes.

Herbed Roast Chicken
1/2 c orange juice
1/3 c olive oil
2 T butter, melted
1 T balsamic vinegar
1 T worchestershire
6 garlic cloves, minced
1 T minced chives
1 T dried parsley flakes
1 T dried basil
1 t salt
1 t pepper
1/2 t dried marjoram
1/2 t dried rosemary, crushed
1/4 t dried tarragon (pricy)
1 roasting chicken, (6 to 7 lbs)
Combine in a resealable plastic bag 8 hours or overnight.
Drain and discard marinade. Bake on a rack in shallow roasting pan.
Bake uncovered 350 degrees for 2-1/4 to 2-3/4 hours or until meat thermometer reads 180 degrees.
Cover loosely with foil if chicken browns too quickly.
I have not tried convection baking yet.
With all this convection talk lately, I have a Jenn-Aire convection cook book if anybody wants me to look anything up. (couldn't remember if I mentioned that before or not... thought I did but...)

most evenings i can see 2-3 bunnies nibbling on the grass from my kitchen window over the sink.
yes, i did say taxis are ok for short trips, esp cross town b/c most subway lines run north/south. subway is $2.25 one way no matter how long or short the ride (some discounts may apply). maximum occupants in a taxi is almost always 4, so if you have 4 people going a short distance, it's more or less the same as the 9.00 on the subway.
earlier this yr we took my 2.5 yr old nephew to the american museum of natural history. since we had the stroller and we had to take him when he woke up from his nap at 2pm and the museum closed at 5pm, the three of us took a taxi for $30
and then we had to rush back b/c he starts his night-time ritual at 7pm and we were eating out. another $30
luckily we were able to pass him off as being under 2 b/c that would have been another $15!
most expensive 3hr trip to the museum ever!!!
we will wait until he doesn't need a nap to take him to the zoo and aquarium and we will drive.
One recipes say 350 for 25 minutes, flip it over 20 minutes more for 2 @ 3 1/2 lbs. each
Another for herb baked whole chicken is 400 for 40 - 45 minutes for 3 @ 1.5to 2 lbs. each
and a 4 to 5 lb. duck says 350 for 2 hours.
I'd probably back the temp down to 350 and keep an eye on it. But unless it's one huge bird, it isn't gonna take that long to bake. Check it in half an hour and start watching closely after about 45 minutes.
