Prayer Request Thread.

I'm changin my post now since my papaw is home and feeling better now. This thread is for anyone to use and post their own requests. Lux took my post from another thread and made this a separate thread just for that reason. Please do not hesitate to make requests cause you might be surprised at the support you will get from the loungers!!

Here is my original request...
Sorry I know this is off-topic but there seem to be some religious people in here right now.

Please say a prayer for my grandfather cause my mom just called and said he just called her and she is taking him to the emergency room. He is having pains (chest, I believe). It scares me cause he had a heart attack last summer and then a 5 bypass surgery. So now I'm heading to meet them at the hospital. Thanks!

I heart my Papaw!

Please keep my cousin, Beth, in your prayers. I just got word that she had a horrible accident and broke her back. She was riding her horse at a high rate of speed and fell off. I don't have many details but I have heard that she was in surgery for over 7 hours. She lives far away and I'm just getting bits and pieces.

Thanks

Prayers, definitely! It's hard to be far away from family in tough times. Comfort

She's in ICU right now..her mom cannot touch her even though she wants so much to hold her.

She's awake for minutes at a time. Her mom said "thank God her fingers work" at least she can read emails.

This sucks.

I just read a great email from her mom and from her DH to the fam...
"is going to Toronto for rehabilitation. She researched it and all have concluded this its best place for her. Maybe next week. She is receiving wonderful care. Her DH is so important to her and her recovery."

"First, we now have a better understanding of what happened. Her horse (I edited the name so she can't be searched Stick Out Tongue), a retired thoroughbred, trained for speed and the home stretch run, accelerated as Beth was slowly cantering down the field back to the stable. She could not slow him down, and lost balance and decided to abandon ship rather than fall randomly and hit some machinery. People working there got to her pretty quickly. She was face down, with massive pain and massive swelling across her low back. She could not move and was frantic. They found her at the base of a tree and believe she likely struck a tree in the fall, and that would explain how she ended up face down, and is consistent with her massive injury. EMS was there quickly, but sent for a second crew to be able to load and turn her onto the basket stretcher without further moving her spine ( which likely would have sliced her spinal cord completely - game over). Once in the ER (a 40 minute ride) she was seen, scanned and in the OR within one hour twenty minutes."

"picked apart and cleaned up the mess at L1, and broke three drill bits screwing ten grand worth of titanium into her back to stabilize the spine.

Further scans post op revealed 4 fractured ribs, over the lower right chest with underlying bruised lung but no collapse. The right psoas muscle was damaged, with a hemorrhage present. Thoracic spine processes 2 to 6 were cracked. Miraculously no head injury and broken neck. Trauma surgeon (name removed) and ICU intensivist (same here) were there with the neurosurgeons and us until 2 am.
Any way, to make a short story long, one week ago she had complete paralysis from the waist down.

There was gradual increase in left leg strength to the point where today she could extend her leg against gravity at the knee. no ankle strength. Sensation intact to the ankle.

It was the right leg, corresponding to the most severe damage to her spinal cord, that was most worrisome. There was some increased sensation to the knee, that was a slow improvement over a few days. However the complete lack of response to motor commands was frightening. Yesterday the rehab specialist (*) noted a tiny voluntary contraction in the quads. It was still there this morning.
HOWEVER: and this is big- tonight she could contract that quad like a belly dancer! So there is life in that leg and the spinal cord is fighting to restore connection. See the video. Very exciting.

She's one tough cookie. Did we expect anything less."

So thank you, thank you, thank you to all who prayed and sent positive thoughts!!!

Definitely prayers. On a positive note, DH had his removed three years ago and he's still cancer free.
