Official 2011-12 NHL Thread - Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings!

Hockey is back! After a summer of tragedy, it's time to drop the puck!

Who's the Cup favorite? Who made the best off season moves? When will Crosby return? When will Doughty sign?

And to start off the season, Mike Modano officially retired yesterday.

Must say that I do miss the Detroit/Michigan passion for hockey, just isn't the same down here. Frown
Nobody in Tampa gives a shit. I remember going to Lightning games in 1999-2000 with less than 10,000 in the stands. Now people go because they're winning and the tickets are still fairly low. Just don't buy beer inside the arena.

I was down here during the Eastern Conference Finals last year, and it took them about a solid 4 days to sell out tickets to games 3 and 4. I think I recall seeing seats at $21.

WTF @ Detroit going nuts in the first on Phoenix last night?

Don't know why either - they looked so good last year. Maybe the Mike Richards deal wasn't a good thing?

Concussions seem to be the story of the year. Heard a good debate on NHL Network last night:

Are they more prevalent because of harder impacts or better testing?

Hard to say. But now that Pronger is out for the season (and possibly career) it's going to get more press. And Philly is stuck with him on their books until 2017 because of the 35+ contract rule.

A lot of star players out due to concussions though. It's not good for the game at all.

This game seems like it's ready to get ugly any second. It's had a few moments, but nothing too serious yet. Burrows is just a bitch though, as usual.

Kings killed the 4 on 3 at least.

I really don't like the Canucks. Ranting

Ovechkin's been on a tear over the last few games. I guess anything is possible!

NBC needs to fire Mike Milbury. According to him, the Rangers are "Blue shits from the Brickyard". How many passes does that clown need?

Also am I like the only one annoyed as hell with the stupid camera angels NBC was using? I couldn't seer have the shots and major plays!

It looked fine to me. Then again I've watched so much hockey that camera angles don't normally bother me.

laugh out loud I used to hate Milbury, but his opinions are growing on me. Gotta admit the guy likes hockey and hates the teams he used to play and coach against. I can't blame him all that much. That's like saying NESN needs to fire Jack Edwards for hating on Montreal, Philadelphia, and the rest of the NHL.

Also, that was an awesome game yesterday. Fun to watch with plenty of excitement and even a penalty shot at the end. I can't believe the ref caught that hand covering the puck in the crease. Tough angle to get it, but a great call.

Milbury definitely has a past with the Rangers and their fans: linly [youtube.com]. I love 'Old Time Hockey' laugh out loud

Iagree

I had it out with a few Ranger fans last night about this call and Callahan's 'Holding the stick' penalty. Both calls were legit but those fans kept saying that they were hometown calls.
