Official 2011-12 NHL Thread - Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings!

Hockey is back! After a summer of tragedy, it's time to drop the puck!

Who's the Cup favorite? Who made the best off season moves? When will Crosby return? When will Doughty sign?

And to start off the season, Mike Modano officially retired yesterday.

Toronto was shut out in two consecutive games this weekend. Sad.

The race to the playoffs in the east is getting interesting.

As much as I hate to say it, I think the Jets are out of it. Going to boil down to Caps and Sabres imo. Truly is a shame about Toronto though like you said. Figured they were a lock since they usually pay awesome at the end of the year, but I guess it is only when the games don't count that they play good.

I think with Brendan Morrow back for the Stars, they have a chance at making a run out there. I really like the Blues too, but not sure they can do it with no heavy star power. Anyone but Vancouver though and I'm happy with it.

St. Louis has had a good run, but mostly due to their goaltending. Can they keep it up?

I'm actually headed your way, igriesd. I'm going to try and go to the Bolts-Bruins game tomorrow night.

I expect the Bruins to have the sand back in their shorts after Sunday's mishap, and I'm not sold on this Tokarski kid they have in goal for TB, but people raved about him in the AHL. Those were the same people who said the Bolts would ride Roloson to the Stanley Cup finals this year.

Either way, I don't think I'll be back to the Times Forum until the Frozen Four comes to town.

Better to get it out of the way now though. They should be pretty solid out in the east come playoff time.

On an unrelated note, announced today that Crosby is coming back, practiced on the third line with Cooke and Kennedy today.

I guess you don't want to talk about Tuesday's debacle either.

Thought Torts' was going to rip someone's head off last night when he seen the Devils roll out their 4th line for the faceoff.

Also seen that Radulov is coming back to the Preds, makes them even more interesting of a team come playoffs.

Wings aren't even going to make the playoffs at this rate. Even if they do, it won't be pretty. What a terrible month.

They'll probably make it. Look at Washington - they're still on the bubble and everyone had them as the favourite to win the Cup this year.

Toronto officially got eliminated last night. That makes 7 years in a row missing the post season.

With 5 games to go, The bubble teams are:

East: Washington, Buffalo, Ottawa

West: Calgary, Colorado, Phoenix, San Jose, and Los Angeles

My predictions on who makes it:

East: Ottawa and Buffalo. Washington just looks too sour.

West: LA and Phoenix.

You made my day.

I've been obnoxiously busy that I've basically had no idea what's been going on in the hockey world. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Kings doing better than I thought they'd be. Hopefully your picks are right, with the exception of Washington and Ottawa. And I'd love nothing more than for the Sharks to flounder.

I have nothing else to contribute, I'm so out of the loop. laugh out loud Now that it's really crunch time though, I think I'll have to give up some sleeping hours to pay attention to the NHL happenings.
