Not Sure What To Do

666 346 September 23, 2011 at 12:34 PM in Help
OK, okay, I won't post any more threads in the lounge for a while after this, I promise. Embarrassment

Limit OT if possible. Frown

Between my dad's recent hospitalization and other things, I have had a lot of stressful situations going on in my life lately.

Recently, I went over to a friend's (Friend2) house for a little get together and left my DS lite with a few games and other things (totaling approximately $150) because my friend (Friend1) requested that I do so. This friend (Friend1) then left the house, forgetting the DS Lite and all along with a backpack full of my sleep-over necessities (toothbrush, shampoo, etc.) at my other friend's (Friend2) house.

After two weeks of texting Friend2, so many excuses have been made as to why I can't go over and get the DS. I wouldn't doubt by now he sold it to some crack head for $5.

What can I do in this situation? Friend1 is like a brother to me.

Just cut your loses then, and don't hang around people that will steal your stuff.

What good what that do? They won't have the DS with them. :/

Might as well become a hermit then, I can't assume someone doesn't steal - I've known Friend2 for a while and never had this issue.

And no, I'm not going to cut my loses.

Send me friend2 Address and I'll take care of it! Or send the lounge stomach to creep out friend2!

I just sent him a message stating,
"This is a formal request for[list here]. Please return the items as they are not yours. If I do not have them by September 30, one week from today, I will be filing a report."

Wonder if that will spur him into action. :sigh:

Well you're the one that said it wouldn't surprise you if he sold it to a crackhead for $5. I wouldn't hang around people like that. That's just me though.

Tell them to bring it with them on a certain day, and you will pick it up at their work.

Considering the information that I found out about him in the past day (the reason for me making this thread), now I wouldn't hang out with him. This was recent information, not something I've known for a long time.

Tried that, no reply.

Other than filing a police report, I don't think there's much you can do.

Call them up and say, "Ok, we've been doing this for a week, and that's too long. I have personal items that I can't replace, and a DS of monetary value. If you cannot figure a way for us to meet up so I can get those items, I simply have no other option than to call the police."

If that scares them and they meet up with you, make 100% SURE that EVERY item is in your bag before they leave.

Meh, yeah. I was genuinely surprised.

Well, where I'm at is close to a police station. Should I give him time to return the items if they are still in his possession or jump the gun and do it now?

Would the text message I sent suffice so I at least have proof of sending? He won't answer phone calls.

Right, I would of course check if that does happen.

Just waiting for a reply (if I get one I suppose)..

If you have reason to suspect drug activity, he's definitely not going to want cops showing up at his place.

I would just stick with the message you sent him. If he doesn't respond by the 30th, go file a police report. If he won't respond to calls, then I'd do it in emails or even postal mail with a signature required so you can verify he did receive it.

If that doesn't work, proceed with what the police tell you.

Considering the mail portion w/signature required... but with my luck he'd deny the letter.
