I bought a few new track suits right before giving birth. They're comfy plus not pj's if you expect a lot of visitors. They were great for the first few weeks.

Sorry it took me so long to reply to all of these! I got caught up at work and have spent this evening looking things up...

Quote from kurips :
ccj - also an infant swing. i'm not sure if all babies like it but mine does. he likes to be carried most times, but swing works as an alternative sometimes.

also if you're planning to breastfeed, i'd recommend getting an electric pump and this bra [amazon.com] to go with. i gave up and was starting to wean but my sister talked me out of it. if i had these in the first place, i probably have not even gone through the giving up stage.

i also love the playtex drop-ins system (i stopped direct breastfeeding, and i also supplement with formula, so i use them as much as bottlefeeders do).

i read your mind. i posted above when i haven't read your post yet :e ek:
I have looked at the playtex system, and will probably try a few different kinds of bottles as well. I really want to breastfeed, as I know it is what is best for my baby - but my mom never did and I have never been around it, so even though I am so ashamed to admit this, there is a part of me that is nervous and kind of queasy about the breastfeeding thing. It weirds me out a little. However - I know it is THE BEST thing for the baby so I will get over it and give it my best, and you ladies giving me your advice and info is SO helpful Smilie

Quote from kurips :
yes, that's how i use them.

eta: this is my pump [amazon.com]. i started with a manual though. i think they recommend that anyway so you don't have to invest in expensive electric pumps right away, as breastfeeding may not work for you. but handsfree electric is so much better than manual.

:h ug: it is normal to feel overwhelmed.
I think it's just hitting me that I am having a baby and I am starting to panic. I don't have family here, I am not currently on speaking terms with my mom and not that close to my MIL. Plus, everyone lives at least an hour away. I don't have any good friends with kids and I feel so lost! People ask me questions and when I look at them blankly, they act like I am stupid. It's frustrating and makes me feel like a bad mom before I even have my baby.

Anyhow, I think our hospital has the pumps to rent so it was never something I even thought about. Should I pick up a manual one just to have it? Facepalm What have I gotten myself in to? laugh out loud

Quote from ALVSGIRLY :
That travel system looks nice. These are great because most babies will fall asleep in the car, and you don't have to wake the baby when you get out of the car. There were some times when we would ride ds around until he went to sleep and left him in the little carrier thing. My cousin insists on not buying one and I think she'll regret it. I bought the medela pump in style. You can also rent them at most hospitals. I would recommend having a good pump if you want to breast feed. The cloth diapers work great as burp clothes. Those little ones they sell at the baby stores don't really do much. Cloth diapers are what I used. They are cheaper and they work better. If you want you can monogram them but they're really just to clean up spit up so I wouldn't recommend spending that much on them. Bottles it depends on the baby. My baby wouldn't take the playtex or advent ones with the big fat nipples. He liked the dr browns.
Quote from ALVSGIRLY :
I agree with krusty. The swings are awesome. Ds loved his. Also several nursing bras. I got mine at motherhood store.
I'm going to go look at some nursing bras this week - and I know I need to pick up some lanolin and breast pads. Thank god for Amazon - that's where I find most of my stuff Smilie I think I will end up renting the pump from the hospital to try. If I like it, I will go from there.

I like the travel system idea. If my in laws don't call back tonight, I'm going to buy it. They keep telling me not to buy stuff until after my shower, but I'm 33 weeks and they still haven't given me a firm shower date. Whatever. (I'm not trying to be ungrateful - I appreciate everything they are doing. I'm just stressed.) My sister is ten years younger than me, but I do remember using the cloth diapers as burp cloths, spit rags, and all around everything cloths. I will make sure to pick them up along with a few different bottles. Wow - having a baby is so simple AND so complicated at the same time!

Oh - and to you and kurips - I did get a swing at my shower the people at work gave me Smilie I'm very happy about that!!!

Quote from kurips :
:iag ree: with my first, i bought a ton of the pricey avent, only to find out baby doesn't like. wasted my money. turned out he likes the cheap gerber bottles.

for this one, i started with playtex drop-ins because there's less washing, and they have a nice milk storage system.
I will definitely have to look a little more closely at these. Thank you for the info!
Quote from momsies :
I'm so pissed cuz I used to have an hourglass figure and now my ass is gone. Also lost weight on my face. Seems to have stayed on my belly though Mad I think for now a bum booster will help. I'm scared now that the pants I order wont fit Frown I've never tried Express pants but maybe I should get out there this weekend and try some. Or maybe I should try a dress. This is for NYE...
I have plenty of extra ass - you can have all you need!!!

Quote from GoHeels :
After I read alvs post about the EGC, I was wishing the ones I ordered were OOS. :l ol: I'd rather had the EGC.
LOL - I wanted the EGC instead!!!! Not even one for me, boo!

Quote from GoHeels :
Great attitude! This is so true. Sometimes we forget how blessed we are, & how little some have. Your post kind of made me feel bad about all the gifts under our tree.
Aww, sometimes I feel bad too. Even some of my family is in a bad spot. But instead of feeling bad - I try to focus on feeling thankful that even with a baby on the way and life being as hectic as it is, I am able to get some nice gifts for my hubby and he and I are comfortable and so happy. Life is good - and I have worked very, very hard to get here. I wish for others to have the determination, strength, and luck I have had Smilie
Quote from GoHeels :
I was going to suggest a swing too. We would have never made it through DS's colic, if it weren't for his swing. I bought my niece one when she had her baby, & she said it's the thing she used the most. My nephew's baby using the one I bought him a lot too. It comforts them, & calms them down. It was truly a lifesaver for us.
I'm second guessing the one I have, as the reviews aren't great on Target.com. I will do some more research and then be sure to get one I will like and hopefully will save me some time and headache!

Quote from teenbean :
That is a great price for that travel system! The hospital won't let you leave the hospital without a car seat.

You will probably want a package of pads at home. Also stock up on groceries. You might be too exhausted to leave the house for a week or two.

The first two weeks of breastfeeding was painful for me, my nipples cracked and bled with both children. After two weeks it was much easier. Lanolin cream is helpful with that. Also the Lanolin breast pads are really nice. Don't buy the cheap ones until after breastfeeding is established. I forget how early they say you can give the baby a bottle but don't wait till the last week. I did with my first child because I was scare of the whole "nipple confusion" and then my daughter refused to take a bottle. I had to bring her to daycare and they called me saying she wouldn't drink. So I had to drive there and breast feed her and then go back to work!

Make sure you bring comfy pregnancy pants for the ride home from the hospital. you will still have the pregnancy belly and your belly will be sore.
I have a few new pairs of sweats from VS for the aftermath. laugh out loud I told hubby he better think my boxer pajamas are cute too because that is what he is going to see me in!! hehe Smilie I will get that travel system this week, whether it is me or the in laws that order it. I need to get some major things knocked out so I feel better!!!

I have been making extra meals and freezing them - chili, lasagna, etc. It's easy to have a few extras already made! My hubby is super helpful as well and I know he will go to the store if I need him to.

Honestly - I think I feel so overwhelmed with the breastfeeding thing because it's never been something natural to me, I have always been mildly weirded out by it. Now that I know I will be doing it soon and it is real - I want to make sure I do it right and don't screw up. I will ask here if I have any questions, everyone seems open and SO helpful!

I may pick another one up from VS - the bathrobe I ordered didn't fit. Talk about depressing! The arms are all small and too tight and it didn't even fit across my shoulders! I was SO confused.

VS question for you ladies - if I ordered the robe with an SRC, and I got the free tote, do I need to return the tote if I return the robe? Will they even give me a GC for the robe? Never done an online return before, just want to make sure I'm not going to screw it up or get nothing for my item. Thank you all!!!

It was supposed to be a Christmas gift but of course when I called the item was oos already. They are refunding me and I need to take the wrong order to VS store. Didn't offer me any kind of discount or anything for inconvenience. vomit I guess that's how they treat customers who placed about 30 orders in last 20 days. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) I almost want to email and tell them how dissapointing this is...
WHAT?!?! You should be able to return that through the mail at no cost to you! Evil.

BTW I had an issue the other day & was promised a gift card in the mail. Then it somehow became the 30% off coupon. Annnnnnnd it never came. Customer service - FAIL.

Thank you hug Sometimes I wonder why some situations are so hard, yet I am so blessed in so many others. My struggle with my mom is years and years old, but yet my husband is amazing and my life here is great. It's a weird contrast laugh out loud

Oh well. It is life, and if it were easy or simple, I don't think I would have the appreciation I do for things Smilie

All the baby talk reminds me of this scene from Sex & the City (clip [youtube.com] , can't find it in English Frown) , where Samatha can't get Miranda's baby Brady to stop crying and she has no idea what to do... so she puts her Sharper Image "neck massager" to new use. Relevant scene is at the 2 minute mark. laugh out loud

Bleh. Speaking of issues getting packages, I'm getting so frustrated with the woman in the main office of my apartment building. . . .
Comfort I get that it's a lot of packages, they have a lot of stuff to do, but I don't know what's so difficult about packages. That should be the easiest part of the day? Confused3 My apartment manager made stuff up. I went to pick up a package from the day before, received it, had a chat, left. Got a voicemail saying USPS had just delivered another package, but we were leaving for Thanksgiving. So I went to pick it up the Mon. after Thanksgiving and it's nowhere to be found. First she said my daughter or son picked it up, but I told her I don't have one of those. Messed Up Then she said it was my husband- told her that was impossible, we were out of town. Annoyed Then she said "ohh... UPS... they probably took it back, they do that now you know". Facepalm In between, she asked if I was sure there was a package at all, and I played the voicemail that she left me back to her AND showed her the slip USPS left in my box. Angry Never recovered that one.

ID:	892298 Flirty Cardi. Purchased in Cider Heather, the light pink and the light brown. I washed 1 of them... the ends curled in and it looks a lot less polished than before washing. I removed promptly, washed gently... I don't iron cardigans. I might have to return these. They are nice and soft. Frown bummer.

ID:	892300 Crochet Tunic Sweater. The multi-color grey is a purple- a dark lilac, with a more reddish purple sewn into the weave. I would def not chance buying this from MJR. The one I got has a pulled thread- from what I understand, once one goes, they all unravel. EEK! . It has some wool in it so it is a tiny bit itchy & smells like wool. Length: covers 3/4 of the bum. Want to keep, might exchange for black.

ID:	892302 VS Siren Velvet Legging in Cloudy Grey. Sure, black is a staple (and in the clearance Cat, it is $16.xx, very limited sizes), but I ordered both to try sizes and the grey looks so neat. I have pretty small legs, average thighs - and the smaller size fit perfectly, ok maybe it pulls a little on the beer gut Coverlaugh , but all I'm saying is that if you have big calves, these are going to be tight, but if you size up- they'll look baggy and will lose their "siren" luster... this one's going to be a hit/miss for people. Thinking about keeping ... Scratchchin

I had to fight him to get the eye drops in his eyes. They helped though.

I just called my dr because I had an appointment this afternoon. The lady that answered said there is a new strain of pink eye that is airborne that is going around. It's a good thing ds's dr prescribes an extra thing of eye drops for me just in case.
Airborne ?! Fooock. I get pink eye 1x/ year, manually. Now it's airborne? OMG Crazy. Yeah, those drops burn a little . . . but I find they're not as bad as allergy drops. Pink eye drops- small sting, mostly warming sensation... allergy drops: burn, sting, sting some more. Maybe you can convince him it's just a warm feeling, not pain and the jedi mind trick will make him more receptive? Frown poor little dude.

CCJ!! Congrats on the baby, I didn't know yet hug I think even if you have been around breast feeding it seems weird. At least it did to me, it seemed really weird! But I also knew it was best for the baby so that is what I did. It is also inexpensive, and there are no bottles to wash.

One thing I really liked about nursing is that at night I could just stay in bed and nurse the baby and then put him back in the bassinet which was scooted right up next to our bed.

Thankfully I did not experience any bleeding or cracking, just soreness which went away after about a week and a half.

Ha! Good luck with that if VS ever tells me to take something I did not order to the store. Email a label and schedule UPS to pick it up from my doorstep. That is the best I can do.

Yup! I was sitting at the computer when the email came through...a little before 3:30am. So of course, my wallet is $$$$ lighter. They have the cutest bras on sale. I did not see any (at least that I was interested in) over $24.99. I am a bit upset that I went to the mall yesterday to burn my remaining SRCs. I should have waited until today, which is what I usaully do....burn them on the last possible day.

This is really thoughtful - thanks for posting this. Sometimes I get lost in things that others make me feel bad about, even though I know it's not my fault (namely at work) and they want to pin it on me and tell me how to live my life at work and I start plotting revenge. Evillaugh
Sometimes ladies post life issues that I do not reply to due to not knowing what to say. However, I do not like to see us as women being bogged down with weight that others put upon us. It can translate into so many unhealthy things for us (actual weight gain, depression, the need to go above & beyond for others, etc.). Just want healthy & happy ladies here because we are all friends.

Sidenote: Thought I had multi-quoted your post a bit ago.
