Quote :
The victim told investigators David befriended him while she was volunteering at Katy Taylor High School and asked to be his friend on Facebook.

The victim said he and David then began communicating via Facebook, e-mail and text message on a regular basis, and their conversations were often sexual.

According to court documents obtained by KHOU, David sent the teen two lewd photos of herself on Oct. 14.

Investigators said David was completely nude in both photos.
Why has it become more and more common for women to try to have sex with little boys?? Confused

The "David" lastname got me confused for a bit. Then it hit me, it's the mom's last name. Sheesh. Ermm

P.S. - you are the one who taught me about playing the ball where the monkey drops it, and if I don't remember you for anything else, that's what will stick with me. Thanks for that, too. Smilie

VQ drank all his coffee in one sitting...so this really isn't his fault now...
laugh out loud In fact I only had a sip b/c it's so strong I knew it would keep me up all night if I drank a cup! 3000cc is a LOT of coffee too. Plus I think I have to dilute it some - it is nearly thick enough to stand up a spoon and it's so dark I think it was starting to develop its own gravity...

I assume that the people saying that this is not a crime, and that 16 is not a "little boy" are not, in fact, parents of a 16 year old boy. I am the mother of a 16 year old boy, and if some adult woman sent nude photos of herself to him, you're damn right I'd call it a crime.
You know what...it is a double standard...no denying it...good bad right or wrong...it is.

Most guys (vq and the bunny exempted) would think its a conquest/cool/etc...

on the flip side most of us see that it's not cool be with some 16 year old girl.

Even when it was just a 3 year difference when I was 19...I refused no matter how mad it made her...and I certainly wouldn't now.

And this is really what I'm objecting to - the double standard and the way people just basically accept it & say "oh well, that's how things are, haha!" I think it exposes underage boys to exploitation & abuse, among other things (but I won't start another rant about how men are being horribly devalued, disenfranchised and shamed into accepting FAR less than we deserve in EVERY facet of modern society - suffice it to say that this double standard of sexual abuse is just one small part of the overarching argument).

I'm sorry that happened and I might very well have been one of the people who mocked you - and I'm sorry for that too (whether I actually was or not). Any advice you'd give to a budding activist, specifically for protecting against/altogether avoiding the cynicism landmines?

(it's okay if that advice is "leave the Lounge" btw) laugh out loud

The vast majority of my posts over the years have been comedic in nature, yet the angry bitter bunny is the one that most find easiest to remember. And that isn't the fault of DC or anyone else who recalls many of my lowest moments here.

but grasshopper you missed my humor!

On a side note...you ever notice that folks remember all the bad stuff you do vs. all the good stuff...

I think that things that impact a person in a negative fashion for what ever reason have a bigger impact vs. something that was super cool/nice/etc impact them.

Not at all. I loved the humor of it because I am well aware of my history here. I can't say I regret airing out my feelings as much as I once did here because it reached a few people who ended up teaching me some of the most valuable life lessons I have ever learned.

I would, too. I think they're speaking more from the perspective of a teenage boy than a parent.

Really guys? How about if it was a 40 year-old single dad sending cell phone pics of his dong to a 16 year-old girl? How long would you want to put him in jail for? How about if it was an older male sending a younger male these pics?

Double standards like this are starting to really bother me. Not so long ago I'd have been on the same side of the fence as everybody saying "haha way to go young guy HIGHFIVE" but I've arrived at the opinion that abuse is abuse regardless of the gender of the abuser or the victim. And whether 16 is "legal in some states" or not, it's too young for a 40 year-old, period.
I completely agree with you.

Quote from veritableqndry :
4+ people chiming in to "clearly" make the same "joke" tells me that even if people really do think they're being funny, the issue's still being trivialized in a harmful way.
Gee, that sounds awfully familiar, where have I seen that taking place in the lounge... Scratchhead

I think of you more as funny than anything. You're on of the funniest people in the lounge! But I've only been here a couple years, so I don't think I've seen the side of you you're talking about. Dontknow
