One in 13 teenage girls, aged 14 to 20, reported having a group-sex experience, with those young women more likely to have been exposed to pornography and childhood sexual abuse than their peers, according to a new study led by a Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH) researcher.

In a study published in the Journal of Urban Health: Bulletin of the New York Academy of Medicine, Emily Rothman, associate professor of community health sciences at BUSPH, and colleagues surveyed 328 females who had utilized a Boston-area community or school-based health clinic, to explore whether they had ever had sex with multiple partners -- either consensual or forced. The authors call this sexual experience "multi-person sex," or MPS, in order to underscore that it refers to any group sex experience on a continuum from gang rape to sex parties.

Of the 7.3 percent who said they had group sex, more than half reported being pressured to engage in the group-sex situation. Forty-five percent reported a lack of condom use by a male participant during the most recent group-sex encounter. Participants with MPS experience also were more likely to report cigarette smoking, dating violence victimization, or ever being diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease, the study found.

That doesn't seem like a potentially biased sample group to me at all. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

There is nothing credible to back that up. Oprah's just a fearmonger.

Both of those scenarios sound inappropriate for a kid. If they're too young to understand sex, they're too young to understand and hear about rape.

I know how marketing and commercials work. That's not the issue here.

It sounds like you're worried about him confusing sex with rape - have you talked to him about either? If not, why let him watch stuff like that? Dontknow
Yes. The sex talk has happened often since he was about 5 or 6. The issue is whether or not I as a parent am going to be his knowledge base as he grows up or if I'm going to let his peers and the media be his knowledge base for this sort of thing. And I think they understand sex much earlier than we think, but they don't understand the concept of intimacy. I think it's important that they know they know the concept, the proper use through intimacy, and the perversion of sex through things like rape and these sex parties. If they understand the first two, then they can understand that the third is wrong and can feel comfortable asking me about the perversion and how to stay away from influences that might lead down this road.

It's sad a lot of people don't know the difference between teaching and indoctrinating.

Rainbow parties are a bullshit myth perpetrated but conservative nut jobs and widely regarded as such. While I'm sure there have been some of these parties it's nowhere near as prevalent as some would want you to believe.

A columnist from Oprah's magazine was the one that made the big expose about it, and it was then featured on her show. The "OMG LOOK WAT OUR KIDZ R DOIN" came shortly after. The details of the interviews the columnist had were sketchy at best, and there hasn't really been anything since to point to the claims being anything other than sensationalized journalism. The entire premise is flawed, anyway.

Teaching....instructing the mind to direct the heart.

Indoctrination....instructing the heart to direct the mind.

That's just my definition of it. Take it for what you will, but if I teach my kids my morals and to be their own person, then they can take my teachings and apply it to their lives in whatever way they choose.

I'm sorry. I'm confused. For a second there I thought you two were discussing Oprah in my thread. Now I KNOW that something like that would never happen.
