USAA offers some of the best rates and perks on car rentals in my opinion. Especially for drivers who are 18 to 24, typically saves $25 to $30 per day. I have only used the Hertz discount and it's saved me a lot of money.

This might be YMMV for some as technically you are required to show proof of your USAA membership (debit card) upon getting the car. Just open a USAA Free Checking account (takes about 10 mins) and you are good to go.

Recently did a quote for a 3 month rental from the Denver Airport (going for an internship and am under 24) and they quoted me almost $3600 and with the USAA discount it dropped to $1800!

Have also gotten weekly rentals in Atlanta for about $119 to $125 a week for a full size.

Logged onto USAA. Clicked on "rental cars" link. Can check all 4 of them.
Quick, easy and saved me money. Better prices than Priceline.

Thanks

What does Avis asked if you rent a car from them?
let's say we use the USAA trick to get the car, do they still require you to proof yo u have insurance for your car?

The worst deal and option is to pay for the rental company's insurance. It's an overpriced rip-off. In most cases, minor dents/scrapes would be ignored and treated as general wear and tear. If they do call you on it, you could either fight it (claiming it was already there), pay the damage yourself (if it's trivial), or file a claim with your own insurance company.

I only have basic liability on my personal car...and I don't want a weekend stroll to turn into a 3-500 nightmare on that.

If spending the extra $20/day or so makes you sleep better at night, then more power to you. If you are asking what the best financial decision is, I answered that in my earlier post.

Iagree the second best price I saw for my rental was at Costco, with AARP coming in a very close at third place.

And yeah, having a membership number ONLY gets you the discounted price. Nothing else.

Who was the first best place? The last two times we rented we looked everywhere and could not beat costco.

USAA for Budget. The rates fluctuate and though Costco initially found me a cheaper price, at the end USAA beat it by $25. nod

I agree. Just booked a reservation. A perk I like is being able to add my wife as a driver for no additional cost.

Also- if you use USAA for something major, like insurance, investments etc, using their discount code will not only provide you with an additional driver at no cost, it will also provide you with Rental insurance. woot

Don't you need to have car insurance through them for this? I know you can use your own car insurance rather than opting for the rental company's insurance, but figured most if not all insurance companies allow this. Didn't think it was something specific to being a USAA auto insurance policy holder.

Anyone willing to check a price for me so I don't have to get a member number if it's not worth it?

Read the first post and follow instructions. No member number needed.

Seriously..I was going to say the same thing.

The entire reason behind THIS thread is the various codes that USAA offers. A simple glance at the OP would provide you with ALL the information that you needed.

Go to Priceline and enter each code and see what results you get.

Thanks, I did read the first post, but I was thinking I needed the member number to check prices even with the coupon code. So the only reason to call and ask for a member number is if you actually book using the code?
