Poll coming

At what age do you think you will be able to retire? I am curious to see how optimistic the SD community is.

SAHM directions Please indicate the age that you think your GTWD (go to work Dad) will be able to retire. I know most of you work hard during the day, but that's not what I am asking about Smilie

And I have an amazing ability to smell silicone, botulism, and chemical tans.
...and you're my favorite liberal tree-hugging hippy (actually, you're probably the only liberal tree-hugging hippy that I like)

I just hope to invest smart enough and have enough in my 401k to live off of when I retire. No pension at my company.
Yea, that's what I have hoped for. I have no pension either.
Now granted, I am not socking away 30% of my income, but I have saved pretty good compared to the average person.
I'm really worried that after all this savings, I will only have enough to live maybe 5-7 years (modestly) off of.
I could easily see property taxes when I am 70 being higher than my mortgage is now.. sigh.
I don't want to be a burden on my kids.

No.. ever since I found out that Index funds beat the vast majority of managed funds (about 85%-90%) I have seen no need to have "professionals" pick stocks and run up commisions against my accounts.

For the first time in my life I had to ask myself what a tanning bed smells like. Seeing as how I have no earthly idea, I can only surmise that it must smell like whatever the set of a porn movie smells like.......what with all of the sweaty nakedness and all. If I am, in fact, right, I suggest you take my advice on the shower and delousing.

EEK! But their commercials are so convincing!

All of my leftover money and investment income is in index funds for this same reason, but I didn't know the margin between indexed and managed funds has grown so much. That's sadly funny.

Depends on your definition I guess. If you base on the fact that retirement means not having to work anymore, I need a poll update with an option for now or already done. But like many others on this thread, I don't think I'd ever stop. I love doing what I do and continue to do so out of passion, not out of necessity. So in that case, I need a poll option for never.

I think they've already raised the SSI retirement age to 72 for people in my age bracket. I'm sure they'll be severely underfunded due the the baby boomers and raise that even further before I'm a senior. I don't think working until 75 will be unusual then; I think it will be more of the norm.
Yes 72 for me also Sadwalk

Judging from my 401k, approximately two month after I pass away.
