There are many theories on the causes of obesity. Some say too much fat, too many calories. Ironically, many of the modern diets have generally failed to fix the problem.
The above video is long. For people who will reply with tl;dr here is the synopsis:
Watch it if you get a chance. I really enjoyed it and found it both eye opening and informative, without needing some shock factor or sex to sell it. It follows a simple premise and makes a lot of sense.

Where did I say "it's the only one"?
Things generally have primary and secondary causes. Going after the big ones tends to have better results than going after the lower impact items.
If you're nothing will change your mind, why even discuss something?
I am in this thread defending sugar. It's getting a bad rap for no reason. People are at fault for their own obesity. It's irresponsible for them to blame sugar.

The epidemic of obese 6 month old children almost exclusively involves formula fed babies.
The guy never says sugar should be illegal. He says there should be a tax on sugar (in a diff youtube video). I don't agree with his stance on taxing sugar, but his lecture on obesity and sugar is very well done and well thought out.

Maybe these kids are given too much formula. Maybe they are taking in too many calories. When you have too many maybes then there is a missing factor or two. When in doubt, blame the parents.
BTW, babies could exercise too. I did exercises with my kids starting from the day after they were born. Moving their legs like they are pedaling a bicycle. Moving their arms like they are swimming.
Exercise is the key to solving the obesity problem in this country.
Let the defensive mothers begin the
I can't watch the video b/c it's blocked at work.

The whole "must finish the bottle" mentality since it's formula and how fast formula kids move to solids (and parents unwilling to deal with "fussy eaters" let the kids eat garbage).
The guy doesn't blame sugar, he blames how much of it is in everything given the desire for food to be cheap (and a president who pushed for making food cheap in a re-election year).
We don't disagree. Watch the video when you have time and let me know if you're still not convinced.

There is no possible way that you could convince me that formula makes babies fat.

Really?
No. There's no underlying agenda at work here? Don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain.
PS: That's not MY underlying agenda.
Also, you admitted that the problem isn't sugar, it's portion control. Which is what was said since the beginning of this thread.
Sorry, but just the mention of government and politics in his argument or solution negates any chance of altruism.

Like I said, I love my junk food. I do not stop my kids from having junk food. I just have the rules that go along with it.
I am fine with sugar. I will never blame sugar for the problem. I will always blame the schools, I will always blame the parents, I will always blame the government for their incorrect agenda of dumping money into food programs in schools instead of the physical education programs. On the latter, I don't care if schools sell cookies or Twinkies or whatever as long as they don't cut out physical education. Unfortunately, Phys Ed is the first thing that gets cut.
My entire argument in this thread is based on the first line in your spoiler: The problem is sugar - PERIOD.
