Linsanity!

With so much love for Tebow on the site, I'm curious as to why there is no attention for the New York's newest star? He is not your standard stereotype for a basketball player. He is an Asian-American from Palo Alto with a degree from Harvard. This kid was sleeping on his brother's couch last week and now he is on top of the basketball world.

Recent 3 game stats:
5 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, 25 pts
2 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, 28 pts
4 rebounds, 10 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 23 pts.

These are Lebron James type of numbers. Is this kid the real deal?

No, you misunderstood me. I'm not saying that all the African-Americans are against him. I said that most ppl (of all races) are supporting him and are really excited for him. For the few that are naysayers (doubt his ability and future in the NBA) or flat out have insulted him, they have all been African-American for some odd reason.

That's all I'm saying.
Because they are probably closet racist. You would think they (those particular blacks) should treat others better and embrace differences, seeing how their own race was treated so unkindly in the past. Yet they don't. Some of them are actually worse then the whites--and they get away with it.

The irony is that it's similar to how blacks were treated back in the days when whites made up majority of sports. Perhaps they would argue that they got it worse. But the irony is similar. Some of the whites treated them poorly--and those whites got away with it.

Perhaps there is a deep seeded reason, another race is occupying what they think belongs to them. So they pounce on that, objecting to it--much like how whites did before when blacks came on the sports scene.

Jeremy Lin (@jlin7) is playing basketball like Leo DiCaprio entered his dreams and planted the idea that he is Kobe Bryant. #linception

Whitlock made a stupid joke and apologized afterward, but it was just a joke. It wasn't actually critical or doubtful of Lin.

I think there is a feeling that if a black player had done this, it wouldn't be this big. I somewhat agree, but some of them take it too far. I think his race has made it a bigger story from the standpoint that it makes it seem like that's a reason no one gave him a chance, not from the standpoint that it's anti-blacks. I've played on NYC courts my whole life, and it's pretty common to see that prejudice against Whites and Asians. It goes away once you establish that you can play though. Floyd Mayweather took it too far though, black players do not "do this every night". Black players don't go undrafted, get cut twice, get demoted by their current team, and then come out of nowhere to play like this. It just doesn't happen. There's an argument to be made that if it did happen, it MIGHT not be quite as big a story, but it doesn't happen every day.

I don't know if it's a coincidence or small sample size that I'm going by. But, from what I'm seeing in the media, it's seems like most ppl are really supporting this kid and following his success. And, the naysayers or negative ppl (very few though) have been African-Americans. A few have even made very derogatory, anti-Asian comments about the kid.

Pretty sad that they're probably just jealous of the attention he's getting.Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

And regarding the TO's, I don't think they have been that numerous to begin with. First off, he's only started 6 games! So, he's just learning. Think rookie! Secondly, he's a quick PG like Nash who's going run and gun it. So, TO's are almost inevitable.

But, in the games that he's started, he's averaging 5.1 TO's per game. Nash avg's about 4 TO's per game. And, what is bringing up Lin's average were two games where he had 8 TO's. He had two games where he had 6 TO's per game. And two games where he had 1 and 2 TO's, respectively.
It's not just the turnovers though, it's the quality of the turnovers. If you turn the ball over because somebody picked your pocket, you know what? It happens. Lin's turnovers have been very sloppy, which is why he's susceptible to the 8+ turnover game. It's not random chance, it's a characteristic of his game. He's very young and his career is practically 7 games old though, I think it's something he can easily work on and improve. It does have to improve though, you can't just say "hey, Nash has turnovers!". These turnovers haven't meant a lot so far but they can wreck a game or even a playoff series. You cough up the ball 8 times against the Heat or Bulls in a big spot and it could easily be the difference between a win and a loss.

Oh, yeah that was a really stupid joke to make for someone in his position.

To be honest, I was skeptical the first 2 or 3 games too.

Kim Kardashian is reportedly scheduled to meet with New York Knicks star Jeremy Lin, with the hope of building a romantic relationship.

A source close to the reality TV personality claims that she is interested in getting to know 23-year-old Lin, who recently made history as the second highest scoring player over a period of four game starts, according to MediaTO.

"She thinks [Jeremy] is cute, and she's good friend's with [Knicks player Carmelo Anthony's wife] Lala. It's going to be a double date," a source told MTO.
Don't do it Jeremy....It's a trap..No good can come out of this..

So what's the point? Tiger woods was a hit in golf. William sisters were a hit in tennis. Asian guy does well in basketball and how dare it's a big story? Please ...

Folks should be pissed off if it wasn't a big story. Closest racist are just that, closest racist and the truth comes out (when they are threatened). Same as when Tiger was continuously popular. The closest racist came out. I recall some of his opponents remarking why he gets so much attention. And I'm thinking to myself, man shut the hell up. He gets the attention because people like him. Same thing with Lin, people like him.

I'm not a basketball guru. I'm an occasional fan. I notice that too with Lin. Not so good turnovers. Not good. He needs to do better in that area. Otherwise that's going to kill him and his team.

It was a fckin slam at the Asian (male) race. Joke? Please. What if a black kid was taking the spelling-bee world by storm, and some closest racist said, well at least that's one less black kid that will grow up to rape a white woman.

Right, because penis size is the same as rape. Just becuase something is a stereotype doesn't mean it's a joke. All black people are violent criminals is not a funny stereotype, it's hurtful. All black people liking fried chicken or something, well, that's a joke. It's kind of an old and played out joke, but a joke nonetheless. It can still be funny if you found a clever way to tell it (like Dave Chappelle).

Well hold on now, Tiger and the Williamses won CHAMPIONSHIPS to get their attention, and Lin took off 3-4 games into his career where he was scoring 25 pts and getting about 7 assists a game. Look, I LOVE the kid, but let's not pretend it wasn't a little out of hand. I was skeptical too, I didn't jump on the bandwagon immediately, and I'm a KNICKS FAN! It's not racist to ask why this is happening, or to point out that his race is a contributing factor. Look, race was a contributing factor for Tiger too, but he wins a championship and it's not about race. And a couple of years into his career you realize that it's not race anymore, he's legitimately a Top 2-3 golfer in history. The same will happen with Lin. In fact he doesn't even have to win a championship to do it. Play well on an everyday basis and it will happen.

Plus, nobody asked why a player like Yao Ming was a hit, because he was an top talent. Nobody questioned him because of race. But a PG taking the world by storm THREE GAMES into a career with very good but not amazing stats does make you wonder what the hell is going on. It was just the perfect storm of a player that was never given a chance (partially due to his race), a team in shambles, and a city thirsting for good basketball. Is race the ONLY reason this all happened? Of course not. Was it a contributing factor? Clearly, yes. What Mayweather said was wrong. But that's not true of anyone that's said anything about him being Asian.

Here's my problem with the situation. Don Imos gets fired for calling black women college bball player "a bunch of nappy headed ho's." Whitlock doesn't even so much get a slap on the wrist for his comment. That's the double standard that bugs me about this one.

Don Imus shouldn't have been fired. He got fired because a backlash was created that caused his sponsors to demand he be fired or they'd start dropping his show. Whitlock's medium does not have that kind of structure, nor does he even have that kind of exposure.
