I usually only watch hers and Marlena's from Makeup Geek. Gives me new products to try. I need new products to try like I need a hole in the head! But the thickening lotion and Benefit Dandelion blush are hard for me to resist. Oh and I saw the powder brush from Sigma she uses so now I want to buy that. Teehee

i agree. i need to work on not being cheap when it comes to buying more healthy foods! The SD mentality is strong! Wish the healthier things would go on sale more often rather than those delicious flaming hot cheetos and chips.. drool

baby steps at a time really help. it keeps you sane and it won't feel like deprivation. Soon later , it'll become more natural to be more aware and health conscious

I hear you! It's definitely a challenge to stay on your path b/c there's temptation at every turn. But by being more aware of your choices, you are already better than the majority of people who do not give a thought to what they put in their mouths (and bodies).

I try to think of buying food this way...it's an investment towards your health. We spend so much in all other areas of our lives, but then we skimp when it comes to our most important asset.
nod A while ago (over a year at this point... nearly two), BF and I totally changed our diets and cut out most processed/artificial foods. Very few preservatives, no artificial colorings/flavorings. So we can't really shop at "normal" grocery stores like Shaw's or Stop and Shop because they only have one, maybe two all-natural aisles. We spend our food budget at Trader Joe's and sometimes Whole Foods for stuff that TJs doesn't carry, but most of the stuff at TJs is off-label products found at WF anyway. (And TJs is "cheap", at least for us--we spend max $70/week on food for two people. Usually around $50.)

I have a lot more energy, clearer skin, etc. since making the switch. Now nearly all I drink is water, milk, and coffee--no soda or soft drinks. We'd love to go all-organic but don't have the money right now, so we do what we can. I've tried to go all-natural with health and beauty products, too, but that's more difficult. I'm getting better at it, though.

I'd rather get aboard the "taking care of yourself" train now, in my mid-twenties, then when I'm 45 and weight 200 lbs. from living on Ring Dings and ramen noodles through graduate school. Smilie

I agree. I'm sure it doesn't really taste better, but in my mind it does. Especially on rare occasions when I eat "junk" food and get grossed out because it just doesn't taste good to me anymore. Taste buds are really adaptable, it seems. laugh out loud

I'm assuming you are in Long Island, so I googled "Long Island Women's Shelters"
Quote from PordaPoddy :
The Women's Law center lists women's shelters by state. You would want to contact them to see what they'll take. Most ones I've contacted will not take used clothing, and are tired of people dropping it off- so be sure to let them know that's not what you've got. ETA, some have websites with lists of what they want, others will take anything.

Grasp it by the red sides and pull up. Don't grasp the metal sides because those need to come up to open. Kind of hard, but it'll come loose! I want more of these Whee it smells lovely!
Thank you all ladies Grouphug

I'm not perfect though, I definitely still splurge on quality dark chocolates! I have a mini-box of my stash in the basement. yummy I find that if I'm eating healthfully though, I only need 2 squares to satiate the craving instead of a whole bar.

I love Trader Joe's too! I'm obsessed with their "21 Seasoning Blend" and I will put it in everything (eggs, chicken, tuna).

nod A lot of people go on the juice fasts and lose a bunch of water weight only to gain it all back once they resume their normal diet. Let me step on my soapbox a minute....IMO, the best way to lose weight and keep your sanity is to make healthy lifestyle changes. Take one small step at a time and you will be able to do much better for the long haul.
Totally agree!

I am legitimately addicted to Trader Joe's. I have some of the TJs recipe books and everything. Nearly 100% of our food comes from there. It's so affordable compared to "conventional" markets, and I like that they have stuff that can be hard to find elsewhere. Chocolate-Sugar-Coffee Bean grinder for my ice cream? Yes, please! yummy
