Peer pressure can be a big motivator. There's no denying that. I'm just going on personal experience. I was told in person by one of my DS's school counselors that me being in the meeting, after my DS turned 18, was a courtesy that my DS requested. If he had said not to include me, I never would have known about the meeting. In their view, after he turned 18 he made his own life decisions. The school was definitely teaching them that. Obviously, I'm more old school than most of you, but I don't think a child in high school should be making all the decisions that affect their future. Not to mention the fact that dad & mom are still paying for that future.

Having the school officials undermine the parental position is too much. It caused us & other parents unnecessary headaches.
OMG OMG OMG Really? Le sigh. Sorry you had to go through all that BS hug

School officials should be there to teach education and the tools necessary for fundamental education. They have failed at that and what business do they have for telling kids how to "teach" their parents? Mad I guess they just like to make parenting hard. I also wonder if it's because teachers are younger these days? They don't have a grip on their classroom and let them run wild? That's kind of the gist I get from friends I know who are teachers/have tried teaching. I tend to discourage those who don't have a backbone to not go into teaching because some just aren't fit for it.

I wonder if it'll be different in private school since parents pay the teacher's salary.

"Makes me not want to visit Chicago." That's exactly the big concern. They're very concerned with tourism. The Walgreens beating happened during the day, and they are hiring police officers to work overtime because they're so worried about it getting so bad.

I agree with the rest of your post as well. Empowerment is good, but it's important not to get too out of hand. I hope the parents get slapped into shape as well. Maybe they should also be punished. Actually, maybe that's the way to go. If kids do something so horrible, the parents should be punished as well for not teaching their children to be respectful citizens.

I remember that UCLA girl's youtube clip. I didn't realize she dropped out. Oh well.
nod Agreed. I've always wanted to go to Chicago. It seemed to be so glamorous, of course, behind NY (also on my list to visit) and LA Stick Out Tongue

I think I will still go some day, but not anytime soon. Maybe it's over-fantasized by movies like Public Enemies and plays like Chicago.

Hopefully the cops clean up the mess soon. Maybe need the mob to help or something laugh out loud

I got the knot strap bra top dress today & really like it. Now I want to order 2 more colors, but ship25 has expired. Sadwalk I can wear it w/o a bra, but I'd need pasties to wear the white dress as anything other than a cover-up. For anyone interested in buying it, it comes to my knees. I needed a M for my chest area.

And no, I don't think you should ever think that you're mean parents. Otherwise, I think it kind of fuels the kids bullying elders like the Klein grandma. I was reading in some article that she doesn't think the police should punish them. And that she just wants a little respect or something about having their parents teach them a 'little" something. I was kind of appalled when I read that comment from her. Maybe she thinks she's being kind hearted, but those kids need to be punished and need to be made an example.

Apparently, the kids and their families are getting all sorts of death threats. I think society is being pretty mean to them and showing that what they did was wrong. I hope the kids get punished with community service or something, but it will be a long time before they live this down. They are so cruel.

The new thing in Chicago is that the middle school kids are all getting together in gangs of like 20-30. They are then beating people up. They beat up two doctors leaving Northwestern hospital and didn't take their money. Last summer, they beat up a tourist right in a Walgreens on Michigan Avenue.

It's pretty horrible to think about what these middleschool brats are capable of doing. I am glad society is reaching out to Karen and punishing those brats.
Those kids definitely need to be punished. They should be shown that society won't put up with this behavior. The people making death threats are no better than the bullies though. If they're adults, they're probably raising bullies themselves. It's always sad to read about the things going on in this country. As the saying goes, "These are the good old days." It appears it's only going to get worse, until someone starts punishing kids who harm others with more than a slap on the wrist.

Sometimes I wish the music of the 60s and the styles back then would come back. I was listening to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin yesterday. I love watching period pieces. I really wish Pan Am had a second season. I loved that Era! Now, it's all just about non-classy stuff like Jersey Shore and...crappy music that talks about beating women, cheating, disrespect, and something about having all the money Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Glad that dress worked out for you! woot

Went today to VS and got PAs. The sales associate did not know how to do it so she asked the one next to her, who said no PAs on sale stuff. I knew this was incorrect and asked for the manager who confirmed that I was right. Even though the VSX sports bras are hanging with the sleepwear, they are still grouped as bras so no PAs there. Still good deal--got back $76.

My store had a fabulous selection of 75% off fragrance stuff. I went back today (did NOT need to) and picked up a few more things. I need a fragrance intervention - I have been a perfume addict since I was young!

Saw this strappy back bra [victoriassecret.com]and totally loving it! Hopefully they have it in stores to try. Only thing I would worry about is possible back fat or skin being pinched by the straps and showing up strangely underneath tops.

Anyone notice any more markdowns in the stores that weren't previously marked down?

Has anyone tried the Madi bikini top [victoriassecret.com] yet? Every time I notice a new style of swim top, I get excited hoping that one will turn out to run large in the cup, instead of 1 to 2 sizes small. Hasn't happened yet.

I stopped by at noon and they were still regular sale price. No mark downs on anything except maybe beauty. But I didn't look in that section.
