I can't believe we agree on something like this
We probably agree on a lot more than we realize.
Nah. There's plenty of evidence supporting it being the best for the baby, and I think it would be good to at least try, but I still think it's a personal decision.
We couldn't do it with the dude because he had so many tummy problems. He had to have formula, and he couldn't keep anything down except Similac Sensitive. He'd throw that up most of the time, too. .
Then afterwards I'm gonna go get a bunch of free toothpaste at walgreens.
I wish I could trade you. I'd rather be in a lab playing with a microscope! :jealous:
Compared to others, this country is really behind the times with family leave for a new baby.
So we finally agreed just to switch to formula after a couple months, and both he and I were instantly a lot happier. I could get actually sleep for more than an hour at a time.
I would have liked to have breastfed a lot longer, but even with the help of a lactation consultant, it just wasn't gonna happen.
But I don't think we are completely equal in reality, and this is probably where I'm reading in to your statement more than you meant. Genetically we are different; we both have our strengths and our weaknesses.

I would guess the part where you said "maybe they don't need as long." I'm betting Chewy thinks they need just as much time.
Where I work the women get 3 weeks paid leave i think, and then they can take LWOP if they have to or use vacation time if they have it. That's entirely too short of a time period if you as me.
And I don't think men should have as much time off as women, but in situations like ours, I had to be home to take care of DS1 while DW took care of the twins in the hospital. I think men should get two weeks off to help out the mother while she is healing.

My boobs failed. By day 3 the doctor said we needed to supplement with formula because he was losing weight. I pumped between feedings, ds was practically attached to my boobs, did everything the lactation people said, blah blah.
My pumping totals were horrible (1+ hrs of pumping, 1/2-1 ounce total) DS became a formula fed baby by the end of his first week.
But on the plus side, I didn't have to deal with gigantic, leaky boobies

But especially in this day and age where the gender lines of our society are crossed to such a great extent, I don't think we should have gender expectations for the sexes especially legally.

And that's what I wanna change...something so that men have the ability to be there for their kids when they're born. It's not fair that women get so much extra and men don't...I agree with Mal about our country being behind the world when it comes to families (and vaca!).
But don't get me started on how much I don't want us to be like the rest of the world!

I kind of almost agree with that some of the time on Wednesdays before noon.

Funny story: when I was being interviewed 5 years ago for this job, they asked me to give them one reason why they shouldn't hire me -- one flaw. My answer: I told them I was extremely immature.
