That's a terrifying thought. This time of night, it's mostly scary people.
Well, I don't think people eat it raw, and when you cook it, it emits this sort of gummy slime. Kind of like... rubber cement, a little bit? I don't know, it's just slimy.
My dad's side of the family all live in Louisiana, and every time they make it, that's what it tastes like. It's always in the gumbo, which I do like, but I'll usually avoid the okra in it.
It's not horrible if you fry it... but I figure if you have to fry it to make it taste decent, it's probably not worth it.
EDIT: I guess if you like seaweed, you'll be okay with it. I love most vegetables, but I draw the line at slime.
