The thing is that the Wii was basically a revved up Gamecube as far as hardware, and the Wii U is more so, with the addition of a tablet controller. And they have no idea what the hell they're doing with the internet. They've always been the "family friendly" console--even when they let Mortal Kombat be released for the SNES, it was a sanitized version.
actually, Sega was the sanitized version until you "A,B,A,C,A,B,B"'ed. original SNES MK had a simple blood toggle on/off in the settings menu.

Lots of people enjoyed it. The controls were miserable if you were used to the precision of a keyboard and mouse--and having four tiny screens on the TV when you were used to an entire monitor to yourself (not to mention that people could look and see where you were in Goldeneye) was a big step backward. It was important in the grand scheme of things, but only because it exposed the populace to that type of gaming.

Yeah, hopefully Nintendo figures things out and does an actual competitive upgrade next time.
Look at me and my fancy keyboard and mouse! Whee

OH REALLY

Four official ports were released in North America as part of the "Mortal Monday" campaign in 1993. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Sega Genesis versions were the home console ports, while handheld console ports were released for the Nintendo Game Boy and Sega Game Gear. While the SNES version's visuals and audio were more accurate than those of the Sega Genesis version, it features changes to the gameplay and due to Nintendo's "Family Friendly" policy, replaces the blood with sweat and most of the fatalities with less violent "finishing moves".[19] On the Sega Genesis version, the blood and uncensored fatalities were available via a cheat code, spelled out "ABACABB"

One of the more notorious of omissions here is the lack of blood. Usually the game throws copious amounts of blood around the screen with every punch and kick that lands, and at the end of the matches you can perform a fatality which kills the opponent in a gruesome manner, here there's no blood, and the fatalities have been made tamer.

The Super NES was far from perfect, though; this version contained a modified gray sweat in place of the blood due to Nintendo policies at the time. Additionally, several fatalities (now called "Finishing Bonus") were altered or changed completely. The use of grey sweat in place of blood led to the urban legend that you could activate blood in the SNES version of Mortal Kombat, however no cheat code was ever in the game.

I did not get a Virtual Boy or N64. I think I got everything else Nintendo. My house currently has in it an original Gameboy, a GB Pocket, GB Color, DS, DS Lite, 3DS, 3DS XL, toploader NES-101, Gamecube, and Wii.
Maybe I'll get a Wii U this year, I dunno. The youngest kid hasn't asked for one terribly frequently.

Not anymore. The GBA SP was one of my favorites, though. It was gifted to a niece.

This probably more appropriate for VViles thread, but I'll leave it here instead:

A woman goes to her physician.
"What seems to be the problem?" asked the Doctor.
"Something is terribly wrong, I keep finding postage stamps from Costa Rica in my vagina."

The Doctor had a look, chuckled and said

"Those aren't postage stamps, they're the stickers off the bananas"
