Hi guys, I didn't really bother to read the whole thread. I'm also new to the forums.

I'm planning to buy a dog for my mom. Overall, I want to buy her a dog that's not needy and doesn't need much social interaction. She also prefers one that doesn't shed a lot of hair and is small-medium sized. Any recommendations?

Among other research, we used this quiz [discovery.com] to find a breed for us. There are other "breed selector" quizzes/sites out there. Japanese Chin was a very close match for us - but they can be "needy" (one of ours is, the other isn't).

doesn't need much social interaction? Most if not all dogs have an INNATE NEED for social interaction.

As far as medium sized dogs that dont shed I'd go with a schnauzer. Great dogs, great temperaments...but they NEED social interaction.

Or go get a cat. Cats dont give a fark so long as you feed them and it doesnt sound like your mom is a dog person as dogs require attention, training and a lot of work in the beginning.

About the social interaction part: my mom works graveyard. She's works at night, sleeping during some parts of the day. I prefer that she gets dog that doesn't want too much attention because my mom can't provide that much.

We had a hard time getting the dogs to hold the tea cup. And an even harder time getting to lift one finger the way you're supposed to while drinking. Smilie
