Bears aren't too much of a concern around here, although there have been more and more of them.

But I don't see how bird houses would attract bears. What do you know that I don't? Annoyed

Bears eat bird seed- if you put up bird feeders and suet too. One year my ex-MIL had a bear sit down on her front stoop and eat a decorative display of Indian corn and gourds Crazy

Did I say bird feeder? I meant bird house. The bugs in the garden will be their feeder.

For civilians? No. But if you want to know what scary stuff the military has, check out ARDEC.

Quote :
Developing advanced weapons, ammunition and fire control systems for the U.S. Army is vitally important. Our efforts simply must result in capabilities that make the American warfighters the most well-equipped and technologically superior fighting force in the world. Fortunately, our workforce of scientists, engineers and technical support staff understands this important role. They work hard to maintain leadership in their fields of study. They understand how critical it is to work with Soldiers to understand their challenges, their combat environments and their concerns about equipment. They understand that every taxpayer dollar that fuels their efforts is precious. Furthermore they are committed to the ARDEC mission: To empower, unburden and protect the warfighter by providing superior armaments solutions that dominate the battlefield. In order to advance this mission we are always looking to academia and industry to continue to challenge us with new ideas and innovation. We look forward to developing productive relationships, and encourage you to reach out to us to discuss your ideas and your concerns.
The have developed a chemical they can distribute through the gas companies which will shut down every internal combustion engine. They have a laser which can be mounted on a bomber and will shoot a 3 foot hole through 10 consecutive tanks without losing strength. They have a munitions round that deploys 152 smaller munitions which can cover 100 acres and deliver a chemical which renders every person in the area immobile.

From Gnome. It's not very user friendly. The GUI lacks a lot of what I want, and I want to do more shell commands anyway. I hear Debian is between Ubuntu or OpenSuse and Arch Linux so I think it's the next logical step.

You don't have to switch distros just to get away from Gnome (I don't care for Gnome myself).
Shell commands will be independent of distro, too. It shouldn't take much to apt-get install KDE, LXDE, or Cinnamon (all are more like Windows-style), and I believe you can switch your desktop environment GUI at the login screen.
