I have 6 cousins that were all adopted from Russia. I didn't get it much either, but they are never going to come after them, there isn't going to be any "My other mother lets me drink/smoke and you don't, I hate you!" or other crap that comes with joint visitation...
Yep, those can be some of the problems.

Plus, it might just be a stereotype (in fact, I am SURE it is...but with all stereotypes is a truth) but I equate most adopted kids from the states as being from a mother that did not take care of them in the 9 months she was with them and you have to deal with the consequences.
Not sure if I agree. I think being "rich foreigners" we get the creme of the crop, while here the "creme" is probably private party brokered adoptions, and most state adoptions tend to be on the lower end.

My choice would be to tie her tubes after kid #2 (yea, I'll even allow her to screw up twice).

Her choice is to get money from me because she can...Also, Her choice is to have sex, resulting in kid #1 and kid #2.
Wait, so you are pro-government going in and forcing her to get her tube tied?

Just curious, how do you feel about the government mandating people getting health insurance?

That is a really good point. Hadn't thought about that...but, I will say, it isn't like my cousins have all come over without issues. The one little girl acts sometimes like she has 'war flashbacks' while another one had to go to counselling because she told a teacher she was going to kill her brother, and went into detail of how..

The Government is forcing me to fork over money for her... If she wants to continue getting my money, she gets her tubes tied. If she doesn't want the money, she can have 20 more kids, I don't care. I hold that in the same regards as getting drug screens. If you don't want to be submitted to a drug test? FINE! You don't get the money though.

I think our country needs an overhaul of the cost of heath care before we mandate it. It shouldn't ever cost anyone $20,000 for a broken arm. I haven't really formed an opinion on that... I am forced to have car insurance and my car costs a LOT less then my body.

That's because we're already socializing the cost of medicine, just not officially. You have insurance, so you get to pay for the other four broken arms that came in today that weren't covered.

Are you sure it wasn't more of a "oh dear god, what if we get another one just like the first?! EEK!" sort of revelation?

Yes, that is literally what you said. You only see name brand, and you don't see any name brand sub-$3. laugh out loud
No you're trying to rephrase what I said. That's dishonest. I said I didn't SEE any boxes of cereal for $2 not that I wouldn't buy them or anything like you're TRYING to portray, so stop trying to put words in my mouth.

Well, I consider General Mills to be a "name brand" cereal and they were just on sale at Walgreen's last week for $1.99. That included all varieties of Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Golden Grahams, etc. So maybe you're shopping at the wrong stores? laugh out loud You can get them close to free (or sometimes even better) if you use coupons and register rewards.
I'll probably get banned for this but I don't look to Walgreen's for things like cereal and a lot of other stuff. I need to learn the drugstore/register rewards/coupon stacking techniques so I can do that stuff. I read posts how people get stuff for free in a regular store or make money buying it.....but I don't know those extreme couponing type things so I never do it.

Also, SD very often has deals on the front page through Amazon for boxes of cereal that usually come out to less than two bucks a box. (Paying anymore than that is a rip-off, IMO.)
Last time I bought boxed food items from Amazon (3-4 years or more ago?) they were almost expired. Maybe they have cleaned up their act but I don't have kids so things don't get eaten right away sometimes and I hate wasting money on food I throw out. There is only so much I can give or take to my brothers or sisters houses for my nieces and nephews because they do very well and don't need my extras.

Quote :
So yeah, I agree with 808lurker that if you have to sit there and think about a $2 box of cereal because it's going to affect your budget that much, you're very likely not paying much, if any (I'd wager any), taxes.
Well again, from the POV as I presented it I see that differently if I decide not to spend $2 on a box of something. Since you or 808 can't put everybody in the same box then his statement still strikes me as stupid and just plain reaching....or trolling. But then that's his style in the podium so why change it for here?

Quote :
In other words, he was saying OP really shouldn't be spouting off about people on welfare because he's not contributing anyway.

But OP's a troll, as are all of his threads, so he's going to regardless.
808 still doesn't know if OP pays 'much' (whatever that means) in taxes or not. I pay 'much' and I use strategic tax planning. If I could get it down to zero, I would since from what I understand it's not illegal to take every deduction you legally are entitled to, therefore lowering your taxes is neither illegal or immoral.

As for OP being a troll.....I don't know because I haven't seen enough of his posts unless he is a namechanger. Now if t was 808 calling OP or anyone else a troll....well, I'd have to post my reaction after I recovered from literally rolling on the floor in laughter and my sides stopped hurting! laugh out loud

Anyone try this new cereal with chocolate inside? I forget the name but it's rectangular with chocolaty inside. I think it's from kellogs, tastes pretty good.
Krave??? Yes, it's VERY yummy! Hey....Target had Krave on sale 2 for $5 a few weeks ago and I bought it, then paid using my Target card so I got an additional 5% off my total bill....so I ALMOST paid just $2 a box for name brand cereal!!! Whee

See??? I CAN do this stuff!!! (if it jumps right out in front of me like the Kellog's Krave sale at Target did because I ran into the endcap display with my cart because I was talking to a hot chick)

maybe if more welfare recipients went to a personal physician regularly instead of to free clinics or emergency rooms, they'd use contraception more
What's wrong with going to free clinics for people that qualify? They can and should be using that resource for free birth control and whatever they need because I'm paying for it. Same with the ER. I'm paying for that too and it won't change even if the unconstitutional ObismalCare went into full effect. The poor (including illegal immigrants) overuse the ER as their primary care and many ER's know this so they give 'special' or more complete care to these people because of that fact. It's a habit and I doubt it will change....especially if doctors become shorter in supply if they don't want to practice medicine being a default government employee. The rest of your post was the usual blah, blah so I don't see a need to reply to it.

You're confusing because you seem like a good guy, helpful to anyone with a car question (and you know your stuff), you clearly aren't stupid....then you come off with the typical liberal responses and it makes me wonder if you're playing a game or what. Doesn't really matter though. I'm friends with lots of people in real life that I disagree with and we know not to speak of politics but here people choose to do it so I expect it I guess.

Everyone with a mental defect should be neutered or spayed. Then no one will have kids. Without kids, fewer people would need help paying their bills unless they were drunkards and druggies. We can fix that by going back to prohibition and imprisoning people in asylums! Yeah! That'll fix everything. Whee

You'd have a point if people were highly rational, but they're not, and it seems patients do better at lower cost when they have a regular doctor. Also a system of universal health coverage will probably save you money, even if it covers more poor people.

Have you seen the latest projections of what Obamacare is going to cost us if it isn't repealed? More than double what he tried to say initially and it is likely to go up from there. Hopefully it is found unconstitutional and won't get a chance to destroy our economy and the quality of our health care system.

Less than the cost of the system we had in place before it and not double the original projections.

Once again explain:

US health care costs: 16% of GDP
rest of developed world: 10% of GDP
